A must to avoid.......2007-10-21
This is not so much a review as a public health warning - this boring, unbelievable, poorly-written and -acted(??) rubbish should be avoided at, if you'll pardon the expression, gunpoint. On one of my favourite gripes; cars get hit by trams every day, but they don't explode in fireballs. I'd no idea that petrol was so explosive. I think I'll give up driving.
I'm awarding this film one star because I can't award it any less. In reality, this film truly merits the Teemacs Five Black Hole Award. I'll not be seeing "3".
Insultingly dire!.......2007-06-14
Not only was this a dull film - but the fact that the "Serbs" in it spoke Hungarian got badly the wrong side of me. Oddly, they took some trouble over this. Part of the story is an ambush by police cars. "Police" is "RendQrség" [letter missing here - Amazon can't cope with Hungarian vowel signs!] in Hungarian, so they decided to put big "Policija" signs on the side of the police cars. Nobody was fooled, especially since the first shot of "Serbia" in the film was of a statue with "Szent Erzsébet" ("St Elizabeth" in Hungarian) written all the way across it. Cheap and cynical.
The sequel to Sniper is way off target.......2003-06-05
This is a disappointing sequel. The central quality it lacks is authenticity and believability. The original film is far superior, with its intimidating rainforest setting and tense portrayal of the stress that snipers operate under. Many of the qualities of the original film, such as the demonstration of the snipers stealth and use of camouflage, seem to have been thrown aside in favour of a more conventional action film. The story sees a grumpy and disillusioned Becket coaxed out of retirement and partnered with a death-row inmate on a dangerous rescue and assassination mission in the Balkans.
In fact the 'Balkans' turn out to be Hungary and the subsequent story with its references to ethnic cleansing and Serbs and Muslims is hard to believe when the locals are spouting Magyar. Okay, so unless you know some Hungarian you are not going to notice. However, the plot was so confused and empty that this turned out to be the least of my criticisms. The actual point and logic of their mission completely eluded me, and once they were in 'The Balkans' the action was too disjointed and rushed for any memorable atmosphere or character development to be created. On the positive side Tom Berenger is good as the cynical and hard-bitten former US Marine, but unfortunately this film does not do him credit. As a standard action film it is not bad, however after watching the original film I expected much more from the sequel

if you cant get to sleep then watch this film.....it drags on ssooooooo much. the first one is much better
