Good.......2004-02-05
Two great films, not sure whether Jackie Brown will stand the test of time
Three great films........2004-01-18
Quentin Tarantino is one of the most, if not the most, important directors to have made his mark in the 90's, and this shows why. Each of these films is excellent - Reservoir Dogs is a taut, tightly coiled masterpiece of suspence, Pulp Fiction a hugely engrossing interweaving of masterfully told crime tales, and the eternally underrated Jackie Brown proves Tarantino can calm down enough to create mature, world-weary, likeable characters any time he wishes.
Scripting, plotting, direction, editing and every other aspect you can think of is excellent throughout, and the only weak performances in any of the films come from Tarantino himself (although he's not THAT bad). The films are classics which will stand up as years pass, and they also aren't that violent - for the most part, the nasty stuff occurs off screen.
Both Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown include bonus discs including documentaries, interviews and lots else (the period trailers on the Jackie Brown disc are a definite highlight). The Reservoir Dogs disc, produced by a different company, suffers from a lack of extras, pretty much the only weak point to the entire box set considering a two disc set is available in the US.
Hitchcock: Clint Eastwood; Coen Bros & Tarantino.......2003-11-22
Those guys are the directors whos films I would always go and see.
I love a plot which is differant to others and Quinten Tarantino always does that in his pictures. They are never boring. Each film stands alone in story and style and comes with xtras that film buffs enjoy. Reservoir Dogs a robbery that goes wrong/ Pulp Fiction stories which connect/ Jackie Brown will she survive?
Watch and learn how to make a film and why film buffs love Tarantino. Because he tells us a story using film and is one of the best. Don't tell people you have this DVD box-set beause your friends will want to borrow them. All DVD's are about crime and each great.
3 Ultimate films in one.......2003-04-25
When buying this I found the box set very good value for money. There are 2 special editions (Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown) and one basic DVD (REservoir Dogs). However you have to give credit, these 3 amazing films bring the violence, heists, gangsters, and brilliant actors, John Travolta, Samuel L Jackson, Bruce Willis and so on.
And of course where would we be without the superb script, the plot twists of Pulp Ficiton, how the times are taken from different moments in the film and glued together like a puzzle piece. Or the huge frustration De Niro has with Bridget Fonda in Jackie Brown, who's gonna take the money?
If your a major fan of any of these actors, particularly Travolta and Jackson, who shine in their best roles to date, then this box set is perfect. The only let down is Reservoir Dogs that doesn't come with many extras, although the other 2 make it worthwhile for value.
A Compilation of Genius.......2002-11-08
It's official- Quentin Tarantino is a genius, and this box set proves it. This contains all 3 of his masterpieces, with 2 discs of fantastic extras.
The set begins with probably the most controversial film ever made- Reservoir Dogs. This is a fantastic film, and just by looking at this film, you can tell Tarantino is going to do well in life. Reservoir Dogs is a mesmerising tale of a group of gangsters who meet up to carry out a diamond theft. It is shot pretty much entirely in an abandoned warehouse, and it then uses Tarantino's trademark flashback to what actually happened. The cast is perfectly led by Harvey Keitel, with excellent support from the menacing Michael Madsen, and Steve Buscemi. The film has excellent picture and sound quality, that is quite exceptional when you consider that it is a very low budget movie. The extras are few but great- a very insightful interview with Tarantino, and the original trailer.
No Tarantino box set could be complete without the greatest film ever made- Pulp Fiction. This has a higher budget, so great stars. John Travolta is highly amusing as drugged up Vincent Vega, and he has of course the then-new Samuel L Jackson. Pulp Fiction I adored- it was even better than Reservoir Dogs. The script is perfect, and it is very, very funny. It tells 4 stories of gangster life, all leading up to a funny climax, wrapping up the stories. No matter who you are, this film will keep you hooked for the whole 2 1/2 hours.
Pulp Fiction contains one of the extra discs, and it is definitely not wasted. Every sing le second of them is informative, funny, and exciting. Documentaries, interviews, trailers are all there- the only thing one might miss is an audio commentary.
This already perfect box set is then rounded off with Quentin's 1997 Jackie Brown, based on the novel by Elmore Leonard. I actually expected this to be unlike Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, as it was based on a novel. However, the highly amusing world of Quentin Tarantino is blended in with Leonard's complex plot. The film has a great cast, including the legendary Robert De Niro.
The 5th disc of this box set is the extras for Jackie Brown. Like Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown has all the extras you could wish for, including some intriguing 70's trailers for past Pam Grier movies...Excellent.
All in all the Tarantino box set is superlative to any other box set there is. Tarantino is a god, and all his creations are blissfully contained in this box set, with fabulous extras. Even if you have never seen a Tarantino movie, buy this box set- you are guaranteed to enjoy this immensely.
