Earth DVD.......2008-02-25
My five star rating is for the section of this DVD that I saw at the Denon display at Bristol Sound and Vision last weekend. The musical interpretation to animals wading through the flood was spell binding, especially the baby elephant with its trunk held high! It is the first clip of a DVD, or past video,I have seen at the exhibition that I am definitely buying.

Intimate brilliance.......2008-01-21
One of the deepest sci-fi scripts I have come across. Engrossing and thought provoking the whole way despite being set in a single living room. I would have been happy for this film to keep going for hours more.
Excellent and thought provoking.......2007-12-14
I highly recommend this film. Unfortunately Hollywood spend all of their advertising budget on promoting CGI extravaganzas while letting intelligent gems like this slip through unnoticed but I urge you to give it a watch. The performances, direction and story are all top notch. Great stuff.
Real Sci-Fi, not SFX.......2007-12-02
This is a thought-provoking and gently engrossing film. It has kept all the elements of what makes a decent sci-fi tale good, and concentrated on those elements of the story, rather than removing the essence and replacing it with action and special effects. Here is proof that it is possible to make a fine and captivating film without a huge budget.

Video Poetry.......2007-02-18
This isn't really a Sci-Fi movie. It's more like a bit of video poetry. There isn't even a 'story' in the conventional sense of the word. There's a story, alright, but it's meant more to make you wonder and dream about what you're seeing.
In very simple terms, and without wanting to spoil it, a planet in the Andromeda Galaxy was dying - the atmosphere was freezing - so the inhabitants fled in hundreds of spaceships. One ended up on Earth, one or two centuries ago. The Roswell incident was also one of their probes. But when examining the probe, people on Earth got infected, and the infection spread all over the planet. So Earth sent a manned probe to find another planet. And using advanced navigation techniques, they find a frozen planet, the 'Wild Blue Yonder'.
Now, this is not a real plot. It's a narrative, told while we are treated to great footage of an actual Space Shuttle mission - the one that launched the Galileo probe to Jupiter - and of divers beneath the Arctic ice sheet. All of these would be amazing per se, but with this narrative inviting us to dream 'what if...' and a haunting soundtrack, it becomes dreamlike.
Added to this are interviews with actual scientists describing how all of it could actually be done, adding to the actual 'plot'. A bit of a stretch, I would say, but there's where you'll have to suspend your disbelief for it to work. And it DOES work.
I particularly liked the end. But I won't spoil that!

Faced with all kinds of problems from infidelity to broken nails Valerie's (Geena Davis) troubles have just began as aliens invade her pool. She must help them acclimate to our way of life. Soon the aliens learn that earth girls are easy.
They say that truth is stranger than fiction. This movie is awfully strange so it must be true. The "out of the area" visitors are easy to keep track of when they are color-coded. The songs were great and relevant.
All of the main actors went on to bigger and I guess you can say better movies. Another early Jim Carrey movie is "Once Bitten" (1985). The best Julie Brown movie is "Out There" (1995), where she describes certain alien appendages as being curved like the space-time continuum.
This is one of those movies that you may want to put on again in the background. And look up in time for your favorite parts.

Garnet Silk Earth Day Tribute 2003.......2007-08-04
As a massive Garnet Silk fan I was eager to purchase this DVD straight away.
I was hoping to see lots of talented artists singing the songs of one of Jamaica's finest roots singers ever. I was disappointed with the DVD/show to be honest. There should have been more conscious singers singing Garnet's roots songs. The only decent artists I thought did this DVD any justice were Ras Shiloh and Aaron Silk (Garnet's brother) The sound quailty isn't that good. The show/DVD would have been superior if there were artists like Terry Linen,Gentleman, Morgan Heritage, Avaran, Alpha Rowen, Steele, Omar Silk, Sylvia Tella, and Luciano alongside Ras Shiloh, Anthony Cruz (Garnet's cousin) and Aaron Silk. I once saw Ras Shiloh in Birmingham UK and he did such an heart felt tribute to Garnet, which I would like to have seen here. I've put this in my Garnet collection, but I won't be playing it that much.
