This dvd shows us how important self-propeled guns were to the germans during the second world war. Very intersting and detailed. job done.

This DVD contains some superb footage, but it has an extremely annoying American narrator which continuously detracts from the images in front of you.
The film at times concentrates far too much on the effects and rise of the French communist party and on little else.
It is also slightly biased against communism and does seem to present communism and stalinism as the same thing.
At times it is a very interesting and easy to watch dvd, but at other times it is poor.

One of the most biased documentaries I've ever seen............2006-10-12

This is awful.

Firstly, the film is ideologically mistaken and continually confuses Communism with Stalinism and the Soviet Union. It allows no space for the beginnings of communism, and its origins in the works of Marx and Engels. It begins with Lenin, proving this to be more of a (biased) history of the USSR and the Cold War than of the ideas, and different currents (which almost no mention is made of) within Communism. The repression and crimes committed during Stalin's dictatorship are made out to be the crimes of Communism and communist ideology. The West is presented as having no ideology, simply the white almost virginal concept of "freedom". Of course, the ideology on the other side is global capitalism - a fact the film forgets to mention.

Secondly, while raging against Soviet intervention in Eastern Europe "against freedom", the film makes absolutely no mention of the continual intervention in democracies in Western Europe by the CIA and NATO (for more info search for Operation Gladio), and their maintanence of secret armies in all Western countries to prevent Socialists or Communists coming to power in elections. US intervention in Vietnam is basically justified by the film. In the bonus feature (on Hungary's uprising and the Prague Spring), according to the film, the students demonstrating for social change in Paris in 1968 were simply "bored", and didn't know how lucky they were to live in a free society. What they were actually saying is totally ignored.

[...] I wouldn't bother. I've just finished watching it, and I feel like Big Brother tried to "reeducate" me. Please note: I only give the film 1 star, as one cannot send a review to Amazon with no stars.

Communism.......2006-01-06

This DVD is truly astonishing. There aren't many DVD documentaries recounting Communism - which is odd given it all what it acheived - and failed to acheieve.

The feature itself is divided into four documentaries shown in two parts - and there is a stack of bonus features too. The documentary is at times sligthly biased against communist ideology, but overall presents a fair and balanced view. Some of the archive footage is stunning and quite remarkable.

Providing an insight into communism, this feature is an informative and acurate presentation of one of the worlds most important political ideologies.

BONUS FEATURES
There is a bonus documentary on the fall of Budapest, a slection of perspectives on Communism (in text form) and a gallery of Communist posters from various regimes/countries.
