BETTER THAN I HAD EXPECTED.......2007-08-06
A shark attacks the workers underwater repairing a new communication line off the coast of Mexico. The lifeguards on the closest beach, Ben (John Barrowman) and his partner Esai (George Stanchev) hear about a new dive spot for lobsters nearby, and wind up being caught by a communication company's local goons. Investigating an underwater cable, Ben takes a tooth but doesn't know what it is. A scientist from California, Cataline (Jenny McShane) identifies the tooth, and rushes to Mexico to inform Ben of his find. There she finds him handling a shark attack on a smaller shark. Cat sees the tooth, and radios her museum to send a video crew down, but not before two more people are attacked and killed by the shark. The communications company continues to experience problems with their cables, as the film crew, Davis (Nikolai Sortirov) and Friedman (Atanas Srebrev) arrives. They accompany Jenny on an expedition to find the source of the shark attacks. They tag the shark and are able to videotape the shark's activities. Cat and Ben find out that the shark is a Megalodon, supposedly extinct. Ben offers to work with Cat to catch the shark, but it goes wrong and the shark attacks a parasailer and drags it down into the depths. The resort orders Ben to kill the shark, while Cat feels guilty for the death of the parasailer. Ben and Cat consult a friend in the company, and get a plan together a plan for the capture of the shark. They manage to kill it, but the mother Meg surfaces and attacks the boat, with Ben and Cat barely escaping. Now with a 60-foot shark in the water, Ben and Cat try to end the ordeal once and for all.
The Good News: One of my personal favorite scenes in all of horror film history is in this movie. That has to be the mother Meg's first appearance, which is very powerful for first time viewers. It could be one of the scariest scenes in a horror movie in the last ten years. The mother Meg is easily the best part of the movie, as the film becomes very better from then on. I also have to commend director Wynorski for making several scenes in the film very suspenseful. The beginning is a great example. It is eerie and hooks you in, like a great beginning ought to be. Cat retrieving her shotgun in the bow of the boat, then the Meg crashing through the side of the boat, pretty classic. In retrospect, not too many of the scenes in the film failed, and it gives the film the better look it appears to have. The film also moves at a very fast pace, as nothing is too silent or too still for very long. There's always an important plot point or an attack by the shark to keep things moving. It also flowed together naturally, as nothing seemed forced to advance the plot. The events really went smoothly. The gore in the film is also very nice. We see the usual blood trails that occur in many of the monster shark films, but we also get to see limbs being bitten off on many of the victims.
The Bad News: The wooden acting is pretty annoying, even in a horror movie. Watching Cat react blankly to news of a guy being ripped to shreds is pretty dreadful, even if she is pretty. That acting was thankfully the worst in the movie, but McShane is not that good an actress. I was also getting slightly tired of the real shots of great whites in the movie being passed off as Megalodon. The opening scene with the Meg was cool, but the real sharks used in so many scenes finally became a letdown. It was also a big letdown to see the exact same scene of the shark used three seconds earlier being shown in the opposite direction to make the shark look like it was turning around. There really was only about four different scenes of the great white that was used. The shark could've used some new scenes to make it a little better. I'm also getting very tired of the business men in these movies refusing to close the beaches, even after several shark attacks. These scenes have become a trademark of these movies, and nobody does it like Murray from the first two `Jaws' movies, who has set the standard for that character and will never be topped.
The Final Verdict: This movie has a little bit of everything for horror fans. There is enough suspense for old school horror fans, blood and guts for gore fans, and it's not too mind numbing. Recommended for killer fish movie fans and those looking to find the next `Jaws.'
Pure Cheese - but great!.......2007-05-24
I bought this because I am a big fan of John Barrowman (JB) and on a Jonathan Ross' (JR) interview JB cringed when JR found an archived clip of this film.
Now I know why JB cringed, it's a terrible film but great fun with it. The special effects are awful (they look like toys in a paddling pool), the 'stars' keep laughing at each others jokes and the lines are just so wonderfully corny.
I wouldn't be without it for when I need a good laugh. Thank goodness he (JB) went onto bigger and better things i.e. Dr Who & Torchwood.
Buy it, it's a scream!
Wonderful - [...].......2007-05-02
I highly recommend watching this film with a few friends and a generous supply of alcohol - it is hysterically funny! The story makes no sense, the special effects are atrocious and the cast know it. Even the most unobservant will notice at least a dozen continuity errors, particularly relating to scale as the shark continually changes size (and species in the stock footage).
[...] If you want an enjoyable couple of hours, buy it now!

Fast Fish?.......2005-09-26
I love sharks....always have ever since Jaws. A movie about the Daddy of all sharks was just too tempting....yeah i knew it was probably going to blow, but hey, sometimes i like to take a chance!
I'm not going to drone on and on.....the acting is...ok. The casting is....ok. The effects reminded me of the FMV intros you used to get at the start of games...not too shoddy, but not really convincing either. The shark just looked like a Great White.....i expected it to be subtly different, more primeval in appearance...but no. It looks like Mr. Whitey. Which causes the one major problem....it's supposed to be 60-70 feet in length, yet you never get a decent shot to give it scale. Because of the White like appearance, it doesn't look huge....
Well, enough is enough except to say watch out for the Tim Burton Batman "homage" of an opening credit sequence....
If you're thirsty for sharks....go watch Jaws again and give this a miss!

THERE ARE WORSE SHARK MOVIES OUT THERE.......2007-08-06
A series of vicious shark attacks is plaguing the coastline of South Africa, and Nick Harris, (Thorsten Kaye) is told by his boss, Michael Francisco, (Danny Keogh) to capture it for his museum. Samantha Peterson, (Nikita Ager) is convinced the shark is the same one who killed her sister in the attacks, and tries to sabotage the exhibit. During the grand opening, an accident causes the shark to escape into the sea. After the disaster, the museum calls in Roy Bishop, (Daniel Alexander) a television show host, to hunt the shark down. Discovering that the sharks are reproducing and forming a giant pack, the three put their differences aside to track the rogue sharks down.
The Good News: This kind of creature features are pretty hard to handle. Do you base them on technical merits or enjoyment factors? If I do this on it's technical merits, this section wouldn't exist as it's special effects are completely laughable and culled from different documentary reels to compile the shark attacks. However, if this were done on an entertainment level, then it deserves some talk. The fact that the film is just a giant cheese-fest, filled with everything that goes along with that kind of movie: cheesy dialog, the aforementioned special effects, and several other different instances spread throughout the film. Oddly, none of them really hurt the film all that much. It's all apart of the film's charm with all the elements together into a series of events that hold a real cheese factor. The film does have a lot of attacks in here, and some of them are pretty good. The beach attack is the film's highlight, as over the course of several minutes, there is half a dozen attacks, and each one is pretty decently handled. Among them include an arm being chewed off, broken in half as it comes from underneath, a giant chomp in the back, and the obligatory pulled underwater with a blood-cloud forming in the area of the attack. The large number of attacks spread throughout the film indicate that the film had some knowledge of it's cheesiness and decided to do something about it to make it a little more interesting. A fast pace to it with lots of action in it and some nice shark attacks make it a little more than just a quickie and makes an honest attempt at being entertaining than anything more.
The Bad News: In fact, the main thing about this movie is the cheese. There isn't anything in it other than cheese. Characters, dialog, events, special effects, actions, situations, and pretty much everything else in the movie can be declared as cheese. This is the film's weakest link, even more than the fact that it just seems like a collection of shark scenes from various movies before it. There really isn't anything wrong with the movie, it just feels like a greatest hits package of scenes and concepts from other giant shark moments. You can figure out what they are already before you see it, so no need to reveal them here. There really wasn't anything wrong with this one, just the cheese and familiarity.
The Final Verdict: It's not as bad as some would say, but it's still not the greatest shark movie ever made either. Of course, if compared to "Jaws," everything comes up short. Get past the cheese and it might be an okay guilty-pleasure. It's worth of look for sure for creature feature fans.
sharks don't not worry.......2007-07-14

AN OK SHARK FILM.......2007-08-06
This was a new, interesting, shark film with an original idea. It was ruined by the terrible sequels, who had a good plot, but the result was horrible.
Shark Attack has a new original story. Steve (Casper Van Dien) who works at the Miami Marine Biology Center receives an e-mail from a long friend who lives in Port Amanzi, Africa. His friend was also a marine biologist who studied sharks. In the e-mail, he found out of terrible, gruesome shark attacks occurring in 3 months, and he needs Steve's help to find out the mystery of the sharks.
Worried, Steve goes to Port Amanzi only to find out that his body was discovered inside a black tip shark, at the local research lab.
Sad, Steve goes to a fishermen's bar and meets his friend's sister - Corrine. Local fishermen don't want American scientists messing up with their town. Steve fights with the fishermen but they are interrupted by a child scream. Everybody go to the dock where a little boy is being attacked by a Great White Shark. From then on, the movie turns out to be not a shark film but an action film involving shark attacks.
If you like action, you might find this film interesting.
sharks look out.......2007-07-14
shark attacks are very deadly you shouldn't go to near one the great white is perhaps the most dangerous if you were having fun in the water at the beach and a whale shark came towords you'll propably scream but don't worry there very harmless
