Heartwarming Film, a Genuine Treat.......2008-01-19
I must admit i purchased this film purely as i saw it had Gerald Butler in as i have a bit of a soft spot for him, but this film was well worth the buy. It was very heartwarming and left me longing to see it again. The acting from all was spot on. Jack McElhone as Frankie was excellent and conveyed his part well even though we only get to hear him speak once and Geralds charachter was warm and sympathetic and really likeable. I have seen Emily Mortimer in a few things now and shes not an excellent actress but i must say in this she portrayed her charachter well, she was very believable as a mother in turmoil, worn out from her life so far. All in all well worth the watch, i would recommend it highly.
A beautiful story.......2008-01-12
This is without a doubt a lovely film. I won't go into to much details except, a young boy writes to his father telling him all about his stories. The mother who read's her son's letters finds out that he wants to meet his father. She then looks around, eventually she meets the man. I won't spoil it for you anymore. This film was and still is a beautiful story that will make you laugh, cry or even both. All the cast are spell binding. I would really recommend getting this film as it is great to watch.
British Movie at it's BEST !.......2007-09-09
This is a beautifully filmed , perfectly acted , well written real tear jerker of a movie that i defy not to touch the heart of everyone . British filmaking at it's best - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED / PS - Nothing like Billy Elliott as the cover suggests - MUCH Better !!
Perfection.......2007-08-24
This is quite simply exquisite. All the cast give outstanding performances which are so natural and eloquent that you cannot help but be drawn into their lives from the outset. The part where the cause of Frankie's deafness is being related to Gerard Butler's character and the way in which he reacts is the most intricately emotional scene I have seen in a film in a long long time. This film deserves to be seen by as many people as possible.
Beautiful Film.......2007-06-28
I loved this film so much. It deals with a difficult situation with a young boy idolising and missing his father in the most beautiful and gentle way. The acting is brilliant by every member of the cast, and Gerard Butler's moving performance as the stranger is remarkable. A film I could watch again and again and again.

A Magical Moment In Movie History.......2005-08-11
Films from Scotland always seem to be of the highest quality. "Dear Frankie" is no exception. Lizzy is young Frankie's mother, who keeps the family moving to avoid an abusive husband. Frankie is also deaf, but that proves no problem in his remarkable understanding of the situation or of the feelings surrounding his mother. After years of pretending that Frankie's real Dad is merchant seaman who sends Frankie letters with wonderful tales from around the world, Lizzy find herself in a quandry (Lizzy writes the letters for her son and to communicate with him). Frankie discovers that Dad's ship is scheduled to dock in their hometown! Lizzy must find a temporary replacement to `play' the father Frankie never knew and finds one that is more than she expected. To make matters worse, Frankie's real father is dying in the hospital and demands to see his son. The plot twists are pleasant, original and unexpected. They cover a wide range of emotions that are never saccharine or dishonest. Frankie's revelation at the end is one of the most heartwarming moments in movie history.
