Innit though?.......2008-02-04
If you want a film to make you feel worried about entering London, or any other city or in fact your local shop then have a look at this.
I'm sure there will be those who see their reality in this film, others will be muttering that they're a bunch of low life chavs who deserve a beating and 'school wasn't like this in my day.' So I can quite understand the mixed reviews.
It was entertaining, harsh and played on numerous stereotypes but at times I felt some of the young cast were a little out their depth. I could have been watching a made for TV drama about inner city youth.
In it's lighter moments I was expecting Catherine Tate's Lauren to make an appearance as most of the dialogue follows that 'y'get me?' line.
An earnest look in to urban life.
Cringe!.......2008-01-10
This film is a cringe! I do not know why all of these little kids who wear their hoods over their flat peaks think they know what they are on about calling this film 'real'. Little minors who go around mugging, stabbing and chatting sh*t all day shouldn't be portrayed as helpless souls like they are in this. Even so the subject the film is based on is a modern day problem on our streets but Ami Ameen clearly knows nothing about it other than the glorified hype! The actors are poor and so is the way they look... Their appearence is nothing like the gun gangs and whatever who plague the cities of this country. I think this film wanted to open people's eyes to the world of crime that some teenagers lead today but at the same time it wanted to be a film for teenagers... You can't do both! If this film was realistic and actually moving in a way other than feeling sorry for the kids who actually thought they stood a chance in staring in a mess like this it would focus far more intensely on the violence, drugs and crime that this film only touches upon. Instead it appears to me like Mr. Ameen was more interested in fitting as many figures of 'modern youth' speech into his production as possible... 'Yes blad, what gwuarnin and ting yes?'... Disaster!
For all those mouthy little cretins 'reppin up' this pile of garbage I've got one thing to say... You probably have never seen a gun, probably never touched a drug and you probably aren't even in a real gang. This film was made for you punks which is why it's a 15 so that you can go and buy it from HMV and keep off the streets for an hour and a half instead of sitting down your local recreational ground trying to stare out pensioners. You have no idea what 'Kidulthood' is really about because if you did you would probably be high on crack with a bullet in your face!
A REALISTIC GRITTY FILM.......2007-09-18
I found this film to be extremely profound and I strongly believe that only those who have lived in London will truly understand and appreciate the messages which are being put forward here (plus, one may have great difficulty in understanding what is being said otherwise). The vernacular used, the peer pressure which occurs amongst "friends" as well as enemies, the psychological as well as the physical abuse, and the "rude boy/girl" image, form an accurate portrayal of contemporary London youth culture.
Some serious deconstruction is necessary here as the meaning of the film is radically indeterminate and certainly open to further questioning. The class as well as the racial background of the teenage protagonists differ and yet they all act the same, so what, or rather, who is to blame for the birth of such a society? Scenes such as Moony hailing for a taxi but no one is stopping and the scene in the Burberry store where Trevor is accused of stealing the cap he initially walked into wearing, are signs that prejudice still exists. However, in mentioning discrimination I do not mean that of racism for even Jay, who is white, is considered a thief when he walks into the store. Being black or white, rich or poor, is not the issue here, what is the issue is the image these teenagers are trying to pull off so they will be accepted by their peers.
Individualism is a big no-no for this generation and as the ending successfully depicts, only when it is too late - too late to defend the girl who you stood by and watched being bullied; too late to heal the wounds of the man whose face you scarred; too late to stop taking drugs to prevent the birth of a "coke-baby"; too late to do well in school and make something of yourselves ... and just too late to live -do these unfortunate youths realise that they have completely lost the plot!
the view according to www.georgevader.co.uk.......2007-08-25
Very much like a Brit version of Larry Clarke's "'Kids', 'Kidulthood' tells the of a bunch of 15 year old's in London.Like 'Kids' like young people in this film really are the dregs of society, drug taking, prostitution, casual sex, bullying, you name it, this group of social rejects get up to it.
Bar the pregnant Trife you really have no sympathy for any of the characters, at time's you could do with subtitles the dialogues so bad with the mix of US gangsta/London cockney drawl.
The plot is good though as one bad thing happens after another, you know this film will climax with no happy ending, not in the same league as the aforementioned 'Kids' but still a good effort.
A youths life.......2007-07-25
This film is Excellent, one of the best british films made. It shows what the kids of today have to cope with on a daily basis, it covers so much, bullying, gangs and weapons. The film uses the slang of todays youth, unlike shameless which makes this film even better. some films like green street are let down due to the fake accents and wording. Some members here have slated the film beacause they dont understand it. i dont know about others but it would have been obvious that the film wont contain dictionary english just by looking at the cover. Terms like 'BRAP BRAP' 'WASTEMAN' and 'BLOOD' is what makes the film so realistic.
I highly recommend this film. It will open your eyes to a youths life. it might help people to understand and help youths instead of branding them 'Hoodies' and pushing them away

"Yucca".......2006-05-23
Hardly expensive is it? Worth the money for over an hour of pure American entertainment. The DVD generally comprises very basic survival techniques and uses lots of "Yucca" trees, but is well presented on a home video style basis. I own lots of books on on this subject and find now that I don't often come across new techiques. However there is a very impressive fire starting technique that is successfully demonstrated in this DVD that I haven't even seen the great Ray Mears perform. Basically described as "the same principal as a diesel engine", he lights a fire by compressing air between two pieces of wood. You'll have to watch this DVD to believe it.
