Amazon.co.uk Review
One of the most acclaimed series on TV during its brief run in the '90s, My So-Called Life pioneered the modern teen drama and made a star out of 15-year-old Claire Danes. Ostensibly centering around the trials and tribulations of high schooler Angela Chase, My So-Called Life actually expanded to include everyone in its protagonist's orbit, from school friends to extended family, and gave its stellar ensemble cast ripe material to work with during its too-short life. Produced by thirtysomething creators Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, MSCL evoked that yuppie-friendly show with its emphasis on finding extraordinary drama within ordinary situations, but was far more heartfelt and heart-wrenching, echoing the dizzying highs and lows of adolescence. As such, it developed a cult following among young viewers who identified strongly with Angela's high school traumas and followed her every move with rapt attention (after cancellation, the show enjoyed a popular reprise on MTV). Avoiding the sensational, My So-Called Life tackled every teen hot-button issue imaginable (and pioneered the then-controversial topic of teen homosexuality), but with a clear-eyed perspective, never dissolving into soap opera--even when Angela mooned over heartthrob Jordan Catalano (dreamy Jared Leto). Even as it mined adolescent angst, though, My So-Called Life never lost sight of its adults, with Bess Armstrong and Tom Irwin both phenomenal as Angela's parents, whose marriage was one of the most complex seen on TV since... well, thirtysomething. Through it all, Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee Danes was a neurotic, touching, and funny centre, whether obsessing over a zit or negotiating the rocky terrain of first love. Her funny, sobering, and empathetic portrait of teendom reminded us that in some ways, life was just an extended version of high school. --Mark Englehart

The most fantastic series ever written.......2007-11-05
I am some years past my teens but sat and watched all five discs without a break I was so hooked. The whole series was riveting with honest, real characters and believable storylines. I can't believe how many times I laughed and cried. The acting was so credible, you felt like a fly on the wall watching a real, true life drama as it unfolded in front of you. I agree with many others that I would have loved another series to tie up loose ends and yet, at 15 years of age, you don't really have loose ends to tie up. So yes, I was left wanting more but also happy that I was left wondering. I had never heard of 'My So Called Life' until I read up on Jared Leto, being a huge fan of 30 Seconds to Mars.
I would highly recommend this series to anyone and have done already to so many people I know.
gritty .......2007-09-03
I absolutely loved this and all the issues it dealt with, like teen isolation etc. I loved Rayanne and wish that they had made a second series to tie up all the loose ends!
AT LAST!.......2007-08-01
At last a region 2 release!! An excellent series, they dont make 'em like this anymore. Buy it now!
Brilliant show, lame packaging.......2007-06-10
This is, without a doubt, one of the best US TV shows of the 90s, and I was devastated to see it cancelled after only one season, so it's great to see it's finally coming out on DVD. Unfortunately, as with many a British DVD release, the packaging leaves a lot to be desired: no bonus materials, no audio commentaries, not even subtitles (the least you can expect from a decent DVD). So it's only 3/5.
Jared Letoooooo..........2007-05-30
I first saw this program in French and was as swooned by "Jordan Catalano" just as Angela (Claire Danes) was...It's a cute teen program which highlights how shallow we all were, but it's great to go back there sometimes, lol. I recently watched all the episodes in English and loved it! What I don't get is - how come it's suddenly getting headlines and being talked about again? I also wondered - after "Angela" realized that "Brian"loved her all this time, was that the last episode? How come it never continued to air? Either way, loved that it EVER aired!

Short but must-see.......2006-11-17
I loved this show when it was on TV and always waited for the story to go on... in other words for a second season. Unfortunately this never happend and I only realised when I bought the DVDs, how few episodes there actually are.
But the existing episodes are superb: Great fun, great actors and the teenager problems feel so real, that it always reminded me of my earlier years.
I can only recommend this title: you won't regret buying it!
my so called life dvd.......2006-01-29
im 15 and so when this series was actually on the tv i obviously never saw it as i was only 4/5 but i borrowed it off my mums friend's daughter and its absolutely brilliant. It actually touches and relates to teenagers more than anything that's on tv now, (like one tree hill or the OC). Its funny, witty, And full of brilliant actors. Clare danes is amazing to watch in this series. So i advise that if your a teenager buy this! its well worth it.

my so called life was and still is an amazing series. the style ,the music, the characters and the stories. this explains being a teenager
the best teen drama ever!.......2004-02-14
This is where it started! Claire Danes plays Angela Chase a 15 year old who is trying to understand love, life and herself. Its just so amazing, addressing real issues that we all face at 15, including alcohol, drugs, friendships, and the struggle for an idenity. Angela is the heroine of this series, dumping her best friend and replacing her with Rayanne, fighting against her parents for independance and falling in love with Jordan (a very fit Jard Leto).
Before we got Dawsons Creek, Buffy and all that ( which don't compare to this!) we had My So-Called Life, and its a must for any teenager or anyone (like me) who watched it when they were 15 and remember what it was like to be stuck at an awkward age.... trust me its a real treat.
