A good weepy.......2008-03-01
I thoroughly enjoyed this film, great acting from Vanessa Redgrave as always. I hope my death is as dignified...
Nowhere near as good as The Hours.......2008-02-29
As a huge fan of The Hours, having read the book of The Hours 3 times, watched the movie for more than 10 times, I was hugely let down by Evening. Evening has a similar cast to The Hours, however, the screenplay nor the book was written by the people from The Hours, Evening was not even directed by the same director as The Hours. It is not a bad film nevertheless, Vanessa Redgrave and Meryl Streep delivered stunning performances and surprisingly, Claire Dane was also very good as she was a bit of a let down in The Hours. Evening was not nominated for any Oscars should be a good indication of my criticisms. I will be reading the book in the future as Susan Minot's writing is not to be missed.
The Hours comes to the sea shore.......2008-02-21
As a huge fan of The Hours and its incredible cast, I was pretty certain I would enjoy Evening. This is a beautiful character-led piece, starring some incredible actresses: from Clare Danes, Toni Colette and Vanessa Redgrave. Evening is heart-warming, moving and the perfect recipe for a good night in!

Stan is still the Man.......2008-02-12
You really can't appreciate the unique tone Stanley generates without hearing him live. On both accoustic and electric, even surrounded by a plethoria of most of the worlds greatest bass players, his sound cuts through like a knife.
The level of musicianship is top-notch, with star turns from Bela Fleck, Flea, Sheila E and lots of others.
The uber-bass-fest version of School Days is worth the entry fee alone, an incredible set of solos featuring every kind of technique you could imagine.
Shame it's not in widescreen, but the sounds quality is great.
In a nutshell, if you like Stanley Clarke, or bass playing in general, buy this.
Interesting ...........2007-06-29
I just bought this from Amazon having listened to Stanley Clarke since the late seventies. Frankly, it doesn't disappoint. He is still the conssumate bass player. He seems to be at his best with other good musicians around him and many of them are here. Pity that he couldn't get George Duke to join ( I saw them live in the days of the Clarke Duke Project) but nonetheless, the artistes on show give everything. School Days is obviously one of his most well known tracks and here it gets the big treatment. 6 or 7 bassists together on stage. It really comes together well. For any fan of what used to be called, in my day, jazz rock fusion, you should buy this one.

wonderful.......2008-02-23
A really moving film in which the death of a mother is palyed out with extreme dignity by Vanessa Redgrave. I was worried that the leaping around different times of her life might be confusing but it wasn't. Directed, casted and acted with sensitivity and utter brilliance
not as bad as they said.......2007-12-19
This is beautiful film, it ain't a chick flick unless you are emotionally autistic! A beautiful telling of a dying women, not quite held down by this time anymore and who goes through some meanful experiences of her life, once again we see Mr Cummingham working out a bisexual tension by a beach in a house between 3 people, but unlike "The home at the end of the world", the characters have more to do, the brilliant Clare Danes playing an original women, Hugh Dancy comes out well ontop though for his performance, and all the others come and go even the formidble Meryl Streep without taking the screen and making it overly hers, the daughters story, the past and the future, the only down turning is the quick ending, but a beautiful allergory it is anyhow!
