The best spy show out there! (and it's British too!).......2008-02-01

This season for me, was by far the most interesting, well-paced and gripping season to date. As a huge 24 fan I was surprised to be torn away right in the middle of season 3 to watch the entirety of Spooks: Season 6.

Spooks, unlike 24 seemed very fast-paced and there were few, if any, erroneous side stories, which in my opinion are only there as easy but boring, story filler.
So much happens in each episode, a solid hour of top-notch dialogue and double crossings! Well worth a purchase to add to the DVD collection.

6 series on it is still by far the best drama on television.......2008-01-13

The number of times that i nearly jumped off my chair in excitement, the times i was on the brink of tears and the huge visceral thrill this program gave me is testemony to the brilliance of this show. I will say no more, just watch it.

Compulsive viewing throughout.......2008-01-11

Spooks series 6 delivers its viewers another highly entertaining and explosive story which is strengthened by great acting from the stars of the show, Rupert Penry Jones and Hermione Norris.
Although this show is in its 6th season it shows on sign of slowing down -this is television drama at the top of its game, providing relevant and shocking entertainment.
In this season, MI5, under the command of leader Harry Pearce (played by the brilliant Peter Firth) tackle international disputes and race against time to stop Iran and the United States bringing about World War Three. The best moment of the season is the return of former ally Juliet Shaw whose character is taken into a new, shocking and much darker direction.
Although the series-long story arc may suggest that writers are running out of ideas, series 6 has done more than enough to guarantee a couple more series. The show has got a lot of life left in it yet. Roll on series 7 - the spooks will be back!

A massive improvement!.......2008-01-11

Spooks started very well and nose dived during season 3. Although not back to previous form yet it's great to see the show's formula get the overhaul it so baddly needed.
Whilst most episodes can still stand alone, season 6 follows a story arc which focuses on the (fictional) escalation of hostilities between the UK, the USA and Iran, who appear locked in a 3 way struggle to dominate the middle east while a convert organisation tries to play them off against each other.
The scenarios are still a bit silly, the acting still patchey and the sets are a bit over the top (nobody in their right mind could confuse Spooks with the real MI5!) but this time the whole is greater then the sum of the parts and the show is more enterinaing then it has been in years.

Die hard Spooks fans who were able to look past the glaring faults of the last 3 seasons will LOVE this. Fans of engaging drama will still have to cough and look away at least once an episode. But with season 6 Spooks has at last left the ranks of unwatchable trash. Best of all this season sees the exit of some of the most ridiculous characters, so there's hope that things will continue to improve next year.
Who knows, maybe the next season will be as good as the first 2.

An impressive return to form.......2008-01-07

Series 5 was so poor I considered not bothering at all with series 6 but thankfully the producers too seem to have accepted the failings of the previous series retooling and sharpening series 6 to a high degree. Threading one storyline throughout all 10 episodes immediately sucked you in and ensured you came back week after week. and as per usual the series concludes with an absolutely gut-wrenching finale. The only weak point I could single out is Hermione Norris' character, Ros, who is so unappealing and detached it's baffling as to why Adam would ever get involved with her and the scenes where we too are supposed to empathise with her just don't work because she is such a cold, dry character. A fault of the writing or the actress herself I couldn't say for sure. That apart it is good to see this old war-horse willing to recognise the slackness of series 5 and correct the problems before they damaged subsequent series.
