5 out of 5 stars You Gotta Love It!!!.......2008-01-07

This film is fantastic.
Seen it a thousand times & I'll watch it a thousand more.
No wonder it was a hit movie: love, action, drama, twists ....... I mean, if you weren't a Kevin Costner fan before, you will be after watching this. He plays the character of Frank Farmer brilliantly. Whitney Houston, I thought did well in the role. The connection between the two characters is made believable just by the eye contact given, especially in the close/intimate scenes. This film is a must have & must see. It is a bit long but it's worth the watch!!!!!
5 stars all round!!

1 out of 5 stars I wouldn't even go there.......2007-09-09

There were two good reasons to avoid this movie when it came out, and they must still hold true today for the dvd: That terrible song and that terrible actor.

3 out of 5 stars OVERBLOWN.......2007-08-26

The Bodyguard is an OK film, but nothing particularly exciting, I am usually a huge fan of Costner's but here he pretty much bored me, and Whitney Houston should really stick to singing, plus while there are a few memorable moments, like the finale at the award ceremony, I found the killer to be quite predictable. Costner and Houston's chemistry was really lacking, and it's also way over long for it's own good, plus I am surprised this was the huge box office hit it was. It does have a few tense moments here and there, and Costner has a couple good scenes, however the ending is too stupid, as I felt there kiss was too passionate!. None of the characters were particularly likable, and this deserves it's low rating it has, plus the dialog was quite boring in my opinion. This had the potential to be a great entertaining film, but it's ruined by over length, and dullness, and characters we can't give a damn about, so Overall it's worth a watch i suppose but don't go out of your way to see it. **1/2 out of 5(barely)

The Acting is OK. Kevin Costner is alright here, but not at his best, I think he is a great actor, but here he is mostly dull, as is his character, he tried to come off as a Bodyguard who was tough, but I simply didn't buy it, he had a couple of good scenes, but he was mostly miscast. Whitney Houston is so so in her 1st major role, she's definitely good at the singing, but acting she's not that great at, I didn't buy her role, and her character got on my nerves. Gary Kemp plays his annoying selfish role well as Sy. Bill Cobbs is good in his role as Devaney and did what he had to do well. Tomas Arana is OK in his role, and did a decent job near the end. Michele Lamar Richards is OK as the selfish sister she did decent. Mike Starr is alright as Tony and brought some comic relief. DeVaughn Nixon is a cute kid, and did fine in his role.

5 out of 5 stars SHE`S SAFE NOW.......2007-08-05

Not the film if you`r looking for a deep thinking, intelligent and classic movie full of Oscar winning talent. BUT if you want entertainment, action and a few twists and turns give this a go. I really enjoyed the whole film, its` plot is simple (bodyguard falls in love with spoilt client) and the acting is ok. KC fits the role well, and Whitney is a good singer which more than makes up for her jitters on debut. Well worth the money so add to your collection, you will not regret it.

4 out of 5 stars Hollywood vehicle for Houston residing on the star power of Costner.......2007-06-14

The only reasons I wanted to see this film basically is because of Kevin Costner (The Untouchables), I like singer Whitney Houston, and I like her theme song, ' I will always love u'.
Frank Farmer (Costner) is an FBI cop with a special assignment to guard singer Rachel Marron (Houston) from any threat or harm. Farmer doesn't really feel that this is like a normal assignment, being a bodyguard for a singer. But it's not too long until he and Rachel start to form quite a close relationship.
A Hollywoodian vehicle for Houston residing on the star power of Costner afresh from the dual success of Dances with Wolves and Robin Hood; performances are so-so and Whitney's character has a character inversely related to her voice. The soundtrack is superb and incidentally my favourite is a track that isn't even a chart hit nor in the film itself namely 'Jesus Loves U'

    Amazon.co.uk Review

This 1992 crowd pleaser made almost as much money for Whitney Houston as its chart-busting soundtrack. A high-wattage star vehicle as only Hollywood can make, The Bodyguard stars Houston as a pop-music diva (now there's a stretch) and Kevin Costner as the stern bodyguard who is assigned to protect her after the singer receives some nasty death threats. Pop star and bodyguard don't hit it off at first, but they wear down each others' defenses, and before long Houston is baring her tonsils with a rousing rendition of the Dolly Parton chestnut "I Will Always Love You." The film, written by Lawrence Kasden, was originally intended for Steve McQueen, but the script languished for years before Houston took an interest in the project. A proposed sequel would potentially have starred Costner and Princess Diana, until Diana's tragic death precluded that possibility. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

      5 out of 5 stars Wow, what a movie!!.......2004-11-12

Well what can I say? When I heard from a few people that The Bodyguard was a chick flick I was like "no way, man. That is a cool movie". To be honest I would rank it with my all time fav film, Dirty Dancing (Nobody puts baby in the corner!!). I admit I cried my eyes out when Kevin saved Whitney at the awards ceremony, as I feared for her life. I also cried when she ran from the plane to kiss him in the end. I was an emotional wreck after watching the movie but it didn't stop me from watching in 100s of times since. You rock Kevin!!

When I heard from a few people that The Bodyguard was a chick flick I just thought "No way, man!! It's up there with my other fav flick Dirty Dancing (nobody puts baby in the corner!!)". I thought when Whitney was in trouble at the awards ceremony that Kevin was just amazing in the way he saved her life.... so amazing that I admit I cried quite a bit. Nobody understood how deep the film actually was. As for the ending.......well needless to say I was an emotional wreck but managed to watch it 100s of times. I highly recommend this flick to all you men out there!! Real men can cry sometimes.

4 out of 5 stars To protect a star requires the coolness of the North Pole.......2004-09-23

To be a bodyguard is not an easy task, particularly when you are dealing with showbizz people. They don't want to cut short their hazardous activities and attitudes of direct contact with the public and then it becomes easy for any would-be killer to perform their acts. This film also reveals that the contact between the bodyguard and the guarded person has to be entirely and only professional not to be disturbed by any personal and emotional element. This is hard to accept for a showbizz person who always sentimentalizes and personalizes the relations they entertain with their surrouding personnel. Yet the bodyguard in this mission will save the actress's son and then the actress herself in particularly public and dramatic conditions. The film will also create some justice when the killer executes the actress's sister who has been the one who paid for the elimination of her sister out of spite and jealousy. In other words the film is interesting because it erases as much sentimental mulk as possible only to retain the professional dimension of the mission.
