A love letter to movies (and the French new wave of the 1960s in particular), Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers starts with a 1968 riot outside of a Parisian movie palace then burrows into an insular love triangle. Matthew (Michael Pitt, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), an expatriate American student, bonds with a twin brother and sister, Isabelle (Eva Green) and Theo (Louis Garrel), over their mutual love of film--they not only quote lines of dialogue, they act out small bits and challenge each other to name the cinematic source. Matthew suspects the twins of incest, but that doesn't stop him from falling into his own intimacies with Isabelle. As the threesome becomes threatened, Paris succumbs to student riots. The Dreamers aspires to be kinky, but the results are more decorative than decadent; nonetheless, the movie's lively energy recalls the careless and vital exuberance of Godard and Truffaut. --Bret Fetzer

Ok but dull film........2007-09-22
A twin brother and sister invite an American friend to stay with them for a month in Paris while Parisians riot about something ???
Most of the film is spent in the apartment where the three main characters are staying. They sit around the apartment (often naked) sometimes talking about film, sometimes about politics and sometimes about love.
None of the characters are particularly likable and I spent most of the film wishing that they would do something (anything) interesting. They don't.
If you do watch this I hope you enjoy it more than I did.
Apt title for those wanting to catch up on some sleep.......2007-05-23
Beautifully shot and edited, but that should be a gainsaid. Otherwise, mildly absurd, highly pretentious nonsense only relieved (!) by bouts of beautiful young things being all naked and sexy for the camera.
Very shortly after I spotted what the game was (and I'll leave that for you), I fell asleep. When I woke up, they were still quoting lines from movies, having sex and being very daring in a bourgeois kind of way.
The film does succeed in being very French in an overly-stylised fashion, but only if you think that 1968 and Satre is what it's all about. Give it a rest, please....
PS: My big sister was on the streets in Paris of '68, and SHE thinks this film is b-s too.
Eva Green steals the show.......2007-01-25
This is one of the most beautiful films I have seen in years - its a love letter to Paris and more importantly the discovery of Eva Green - an actress who captivates and steals the show - she tuly is The best actress i have watched in years - every scene is cativating and you wait eagerly for her to return for her next cue.
The story is, to, beautiful - but I cant help but feeling Michael Pitt was given to much responcability with his role - he seems to struggle at times - often making you believe he's the same character that he was in Hedwig.
Its simply superb, nothing comes close and no-one can ever match Eva Green.

Sorry, I was disappointed in this movie. Lots of sex (someone said it wasn't pornographic?), some great music, interesting flashbacks to movies mainly from the early 1930s, but the plot didn't gel.
Bertolucci's Last Tango is a good contrast. There the pain of Brando's character gave him a looming, brooding power which caught the ienxperienced young rich girl off balance, absorbed her until she could take it no longer; here, the characters are just nice rich young things discovering sex in an exciting time.
The contrast between political commitment and the dreams of these latter-day Lotos Eaters is pretentious, I think; why are those students rioting? Is Edith Piaf's singing 'Non, je ne regrette rien' set against burning barricades at the end Bertolucci's defiant answer to the post Cold War wiseacres? Fine, but make a film which makes you care about the politics, or the lotos-eaters. The ideas of sex versus politics were better handled in Marat-Sade; the sexuality was more interesting in Last Tango. Ah well, May 68 might find its film one day...
A fascinating story about intimacy.......2006-07-29
Set in Paris in the 1960s "The Dreamers" is a tale of love, intimacy and possession. An American student Matthew (Michael Pitt) meets the alluring Isabelle (Eva Green) and her equally charismatic twin brother Theo (Lewis Garrel) and their shared love of film and immediate sexual attraction brings the three together. At first Matthew is intrigued by the powerful intimacy between the twins but as time goes by and his feelings for Isabelle intensify he grows weary of what he believes to be a limiting brother-sister relationship.
Whilst the student riots of 1968 is a recurring theme that eventually divides the characters, the tale could just as easily have been set in another place at another time because it's the timeless characters who make the story fascinating and entertaining.
The film is deeply erotic and at times explicit but never gratuitously, with sex scenes and frequent nudity really adding to the understanding of the character relationships.
The film is directed by Bernardo Bertolucci ("Besieged", "Stealing Beauty") and is based on a novel by Gilbert Adair. After watching "The Dreamers" I'm very keen to view other work by both the writer and director.

The title is a mouthful, but Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story hits the winner's circle as a warm and inspiring family film. Ben Crane (Kurt Russell) is a Kentucky horse trainer who watches in horror as a championship filly breaks its leg during a practice run. Ordinarily that means curtains, but today Ben's daughter, Cale (Dakota Fanning), is at the track, and Ben impulsively buys the horse and loses his job in one fell swoop.
The rehabilitation process is almost too much for a farm that's already struggling to survive in a modern economy, but the horse turns out to be a much-needed salve to the nearly broken family, including Ben's wife (Elisabeth Shue) and father (Kris Kristofferson). The cast is excellent, especially Fanning, and the film is well-paced by director-writer John Gatins and beautifully shot by cinematographer Fred Murphy. Surely the ultimate fate of the horse and the family won't surprise anyone, but young girls who love horses often don't need a surprise ending. They need a reason to cheer, and Dreamer delivers all the way.-- David Horiuchi

A great family film .......2007-04-16
I'm always on the lookout for good old fashioned family movies with no innapropriate moments that I can share with my family - and this is one of them.
However this film is better than I suspected it would be from the synopsis, and has quite a lot of emotional depth - especially in the relationships between Kurt Rusell, his father as played by Kris Kristofersen (inspired casting) and his daughter as played by Dakota Fanning (who incidentally gives a very strong performance). Dreamer neatly avoids most of the traps of sugary sweetness that characterize this type of film when made by (for example) Disney, and instead takes a fairly honest look at dysfunctional relationships, dissapointment and the hard choices which adults are forced to make which don't always make sense when seen through the eyes of children. The result is a nicely layered film which has something to offer both adults and older children. In addition both the cinematography and music are great, and the rest of the cast give strong performances, Elisabeth Shue, David Morse (who manages to do quite a lot with a little screen time) and Freddy Rodriguez (Federico from Six Feet Under). 4 stars instead of 5 only because the end is a little rushed compared to the rest of the film, but if I could give it 4.5 stars I would. Overall this is a great family film.
Absolutely Brilliant!!!.......2006-09-23
Trust me on this one, get it. You do not have to be a fan of horses to like this movie. This movie is so relevant to real life (by the way it is based on a true story) it shows that everyone needs a chance. A trainer took a chance on a horse that was about to be put down, on the surface it looked like a foolish decision but he chose to follow his heart. In nursing the horse back to health the filly became a tool in healing his wounded family. The star of the film is young Cale, she demonstrates that passion and determination can help you achieve great things regardless of your age.This film shows that all things are indeed possible, with faith, love and some gutsy peseverance.
a horsey tail with a happy ending.......2006-03-23
Dreamer is inspired by a true story, i was hooked from the opening credits!! i love true stories and when there combined with horses im in my element. soniador a well bred race horse is the centre of our heart warming story, following a tragic accident on the racetrack she is rescued by kurt russells character. Dekota Fanning plays russels daughter and strikes up a bond with this pretty young mare. I wont spoil the story but i will say the road to salvation has many twists, For such a young actress dekota deliveries a very mature performance, i feel at times she definately out shone her adult counter parts. tear jerker - must see for all horse lovers out there!!!
Top quality old fashioned family film!.......2006-02-25
This is a beautiful film that both my 7 year old daughter and I absolutely love. The cinematography is wonderful and the story is strong enough for kids and adults alike. All the performances are superb and it is definately one of my favourite Kurt Russell films now. This really is a classic family film - a modern day National Velvet - but with a little more bight and a sparkling script - you will feel elated every time you watch it.

A MASSACRE ON 34th STREET!!!.......2002-12-04
ECW Massacre On 34th Street is a truly awesome PPV and better than the November To Remember a month earlier.It took place in December 2000 in New York City and was the second from last ECW PPV ever.Here are the matches:
1)Simon Diamond & Swinger VS Christian York & Joey Matthews.
(Not a bad way to start as the two teams fight for the services of Dawn Marie.Some good moves by both teams especially York & Matthews)***
2)Balls Mahoney VS EZ Money.
(Again a pretty decent match although their styles are completely different.EZ Money is awesome and does some very impressive stuff)***
3)Nova VS Julio Dinero.
(This match was very good with Nova looking to be in better shape than ever.Tons of aerial moves by both men.Nova is the best innovator in wrestling in my opinion)***1/2
4)TAG TEAM TITLES:
FBI(c) VS Danny Doring & Roadkill.
(Another good match with the last two moves being awesome.One is Doring's superkick that knocks Tony Mamaluke flying into the front row)***
5)Tommy Dreamer VS CW Anderson.
(This was a brutal hardcore fight which set up their I Quit match at Guilty As Charged 2001.Great match involving chairs and tables.CW does a spinebuster through a table that is lying against the turnbuckles with the steel legs facing upwards)****
6)TV TITLE:
Rhino(c) VS Spike Dudley.
(Yet another brilliant match.The match was just excellent and got a decent amount of time but the ending isn't great although it's not that bad,just a choke out and Taz did that for years.Highlights include Spike diving from a balcony doing a cross body,a gore,loads of chair shots and Spike going through a table)****
7)Tajiri & Mikey Whipwreck VS Super Crazy & Kid Kash.
(This was match of the night by far even though the rest of the matches ruled aswell.Apart from one botched Tarantula the whole match is amazing.Best bits are Kash doing a hurracanrana from the top through a table outside on Mikey,lots of planchas and suicide dives,a whipper snapper off the apron through a table and an awesome finish which I won't reveal,you'll find out for yourself.There's loads more high spots but too many to mention here)*****
8)ECW WORLD TITLE 3 WAY DANCE:
Steve Corino(c) VS Jerry Lynn VS Justin Credible.
(A great main event and a traditional ECW style 3 way dance in which 2 men must be eliminated leaving one man left standing.There are countless great moves in this match from start to finish and they completely destroy a ladder on Corino.As the PPV is coming to the end Sandman appears and totally smashes a singapore cane into splinters on Corino's back.Trust me this is worth watching.Corino was what made this match great with him taking the majority of the bumps and sold them perfectly)****
This is a tremendous PPV and really does prove that as far as in ring product goes ECW was far above WWF and WCW.If it wasn't for poor management ECW would most likely still be going strong today.The fact that every match is no less than good is a reason to buy it.The last four matches are unbelievable and the ones before that are above average.I definitely reccommend it.
Best ECW event ever, but the DVD has one FLAW!!!!.......2002-04-19
This was perhaps the best event ECW ever put on. But the DVD has one problem. The entrance themes to all the wrestlers have all been replaced with lame techno garbage music. The theme music really does have an impact on a live event such as this. That is why the WWF copied all of ECW's cutting edge "in your face" promos, music, etc....

The DVD starts of the same as any other ecw dvd with the main menu and theme music.No introduction,just joey styles welcoming everyone but you dont see him onscreen.

Match 5)Dream partner match Tommy Dreamer&Terry Funk VS Raven&Stevie Richards:Match is pretty good overall but Ravens continuall interuptions get a bit annoying.
Match 6)3 way Tag Match:Gangstas Vs Eliminators Vs Dudley Boyz

Overall:The dvd was very good apart from one rall crap and pointless match in the form of Balls Vs Wild Bill,but apart from that a very good well presented dvd.
