A Great Adaptation Of An All-Time Classic!.......2004-02-12

When this BBC drama was shown on TV over the 2003 Christmas holidays, it instantly became an overwelming success, and by the 12th of January, it had been released on DVD and video. How fast is that!

Over the years the BBC have produced loads of great dramas adapted from classic novels, such as 'David Copperfield' and 'Hard Times', and i have to say that this one is no acception to the rule. The fact that it was released on DVD and video only a week or so after it hit the TV screens, proves this.

Carrie's War is a story about Carrie and her brother who are evacuated to Wales at the start of the second world war, and are taken in by the grumpy Mr Evans and his sister Auntie Lou, and tells of their adventures in the village of Druids Bottom.

This heartwarming tale adapted from the bestselling novel by Nina Bawsen is full of emotion and is guarenteed to pull at your heart strings so my advice would be to get a good supply of hankies ready before you start watching it. It describes brilliantly the mixed emotions that children who were evacuated were feeling; saddness about leaving their parents, excitment that they were going to a new place, appreciation to the people who took them in, and many more.

The acting, like in most dramas not only by the BBC but also by other TV channels, is superb and in most respects often better than some of the acting which you see in films. Each character is portrayed by excelently by the actor , and i'm sure that we will see some of them in future films and dramas.

There is no doubt in my mind that this film will become a classic just like the book, and it certainly deserves it. This is one of those film which can be watched by all ages, and even if you are not into this type of film genre, you will still find it immensely enjoyable. Be warned though, you will need a good supply of hankies.

great effort by the bbc.......2004-01-02

Carries war is dramatised from the book by Nina Bawden and it is not a bad effort by the bbc at all. The story tells of a young girl and her brother who are evacuated to wales during the second world war and the life they live their. It's a heart warming story of them being taken in by a gentlemen who didn't want them there and them gradually changing his mind as they come to leave. However it also tells the story of a hose built on an ancient druid city and it's residents, one of whom is the sister of the gentlemen looking after carrie. It all leads on from thesuperb welsh countryside to the great acting. A story that young and old can enjoy. Well done to the bbc for bringing to life a truly wonderful story.

Exceptional.......2004-01-01

This dramatisation of a best selling novel is exceptional. The acting is beyond reproach and the film set is realistic in taking you back in time to the experience of these young wartime evacuees.

Beware this film will certainly tug at your emotions and is surely destined to become a classic. It is a film that does justice to the author’s original written work.

Can not wait for the next one.........2008-03-07

I loved this series as it was different from the usual chavvy type of series lately in TV. Rupert Evans is very good as the young prince to be king and Zoe Telford really lights up the screen as Abigail. Altogether the acting is first rate by everyone in the cast. Storylines are believable and it is intriguing to see all the PR/cover ups that presumably go on in the palace circles. Cant wait the next part of the series -- Hope there will be a second one!!

The Palace - daft but fun.......2008-02-29

This TV show has been great fun to watch, a frothy bit of Royal fluff, full of pretty people. A lot of the situations feel a bit daft, but Princess Eleanor's desire to be Queen drives much of the plot, and there is a bit of royal love-life and trauma for variety. The differences and similiarities between upstairs/downstairs life are particularly nicely done. All the actors get their own special little moments and everybody is obviously having fun, while taking the nonsense just seriously enough to make it work. The sets and costume are great, and really help to make the Palace more real.
I'm looking forward to getting into the box-set, hoping for good extras!

No Life Is Meaningless.......2007-10-06

This is an exploration of what really matters and that no ones life is meaningless.

This movie is well done in all categories. It is about Eddie played by Jon Voight who we watch spend his last hours on earth in his usually way, maintaining the Ruby Pier amusement park rides. But something goes wrong, and Edie dies on his birthday while trying to save a little girl.

In heaven Eddie meets five people who help him realize what his life meant. We follow his story with flashbacks from the present to the 1920's, eight decades of a life explained in a way that will move and comfort you.

Drama Of The Highest Calibre.......2005-03-21

An extremely well filmed and well acted adaptation of the New York Times best seller by Mitch Albom.
John Voigt stars wonderfully as Eddie whose life has just ended and also just begun.
Dealing very compassionately with the delicate subject of death, this film is an absolute joy to watch.
Two main comments...
1. I defy anyone to watch this film without feeling either a lump in your throat or a tear in your eye.
2. I guarantee that after watching this film, you will find yourself wondering whom YOU will meet in the afterlife should your time come soon.

A very very good film - worth buying.......2007-11-13

I did not know anything about Larry Flynt prior to watching this film - I'm afriad the porn industry is not a special interest of mine!! However, this was a really good film and a very powerful interesting insight into a taboo area. The story of the man who founded Hustler, faced off christian organisations and survived assassination attempts is certainly entertaining and there are some stella performances from Courtney Love, Woody H. and Ed Norton tackling some incredibly relevant and difficult issues. The fact it is based on a true account of events makes it all the more interesting. This is definitely worth buying and I would recommend it to all serious film lovers.
