Biko's spirit still lives in us ...and in all those who fight for freedom and emancipation........2007-10-13
This movie is one of the best true stories protrayed on video. Buy and keep this dvd for your kids and future generations and it will teach them to grow and respect other people's right to live with determination. It may bring you to tears but it is worth watching.
Nkosi sikelela thina lusapho lwayo.......2007-05-20
We had to watch this in our RS class at school last year. Me and my friend were so moved and heartbroken I don't think we stopped crying for 3 days. Although (being of annoyingly sensitive nature) I couldn't watch some of the scenes, I won't forget this film in a hurry - especially Biko's funeral, where thousands of people stood and sang "Nkosi sikelel' iAfrika" - the South African national anthem; it's such a beautiful moment, it will haunt my dreams for the rest of my life.
Voice for the voiceless .......2007-04-17
The is timeless. Twenty years have past and I've just viewed the movie again with my English class. The movie, Cry Freedom, still has a powerful impact on the hearts and minds of those that view it. The story is earth shaking, and is still a voice for the voiceless that injustice has visited.
Yet, I lopped off one star because I felt that coverage of Steve Biko was eclipsed by that of Donald Woods. Indeed both are great men but I felt that Biko should have had centrestage.
Life Changing.......2006-07-11
It's no joke. From the first time I saw this film in a Religious Education lesson at school to now when I watch it at home alone, the story has changed my life. Not until you've seen the film, do you realise how great today's life really is for so many of us. A powerful, eye-opening film, that gets me in tears everytime i watch it. A MUST SEE.
Mayibuye!.......2006-06-26
Regardless of what you may think of the film "Cry Freedom" and its allocation of more time to the leading white character than the leading Black one (which is a fair critique), the music on this soundtrack stands solidly on its own.
I am listening to this CD as I write this, almost 20 years since the film was released. The music is sweeping, rich and emotional, and still moves me as much today as it did when it first came out in 1987. Steve Biko and Donald Woods -- rest in peace, and thank you for the gift of inspiring the creation of the music of "Cry Freedom." May we continue to hear more South African film soundtracks that move the world as much as this one has.
