Shootings and Shoulder Pads.......2006-11-10
Now this is when Dallas got seriously good. Swellin stands by her man when he's riddled with bullets, but once JR's on the mend, Swellin hits the bottle, and their turbulent marriage lights up the screen. Dallas really is soap at its best, and all the favourites are there, plus some new characters, to spice up Series 4. However, the most successful themes are familiar: JR being dastardly, Swellin's lip quivering, bun fights at the Ewing Barbecue, poor Miss Ellie trying to keep the clan together, Bobby being perfect and more gratituous shots of the original Pammy in her swimsuit, long before lycra and silicone were the norm. And for all female fans, it's worth it just to see the fashion. Hark back to a time when stilletos matched your clutch bag, and bubble perms were the latest invention for hair.
Bring on Series 5.
Dallas just keeps getting better!.......2006-10-25
I enjoyed watching the series 4 of Dallas and think it is the best I have seen so far. The gripping storylines and snappy dialogue make it as fresh today as when it was first aired twenty years or so ago. However not having seen all of Dallas the first time around I found the bonus feature "Dallas reunion: A return to Southfork" a bit of a pain as it shows clips from later series. In my opinion this is totally the wrong place to include it as chronologically it is out of sequence
Who shot J.R?.......2006-08-01
This dvd is a must for all of those who can't remember who shot J.R. After the devious Texan got shot at the end of season 3 I had to buy this box set as soon as possible. With so many people wanting to see the back of J.R it was impossible for a person like me who was very young when the original episodes aired to work out who done it.
J.R is truly the original nasty man in any soap, but i'm glad he didn't meet his end and survived to terrorise the people of Dallas for many a season again.
It's brilliant from the glamour to the backstabbing. I loved it!
Out in the open and Out in the field!.......2006-07-20
Well, if Seasons 1, 2, & 3 on DVD haven't yet got you completely hooked - and goodness, it should have had some affect by now - then this Season 4 of "Dallas" will rock your world!
This is the Season the all-time whodunnit 'cliffhanger' is revealed to 'Who Shot JR?', but if you think that we find out right away then guess again!
The stories begin to intertwine beautifully and you will find yourself rejoicing and reminiscing like an old pro. Another addition to the scripts of this series comes in the form of a more business-like approach as youngest brother, Bobby takes over the reigns of Ewing Oil whilst JR is tucked up in a hospital bed at Dallas Memorial fighting for his life from the two bullets that were fired into him.
There are more revelations to come as the episodes unfold and introduce us to some of the newer characters of the time as well as a welcome return by some of the familiar faces. A great bonus on this DVD set is the "Dallas Reunion: Return To Southfork" documentary from a couple of years ago, so much so that I watched it twice in a row.
You certainly won't be disappointed with "Dallas" - the complete fourth season.
Excellent episodes. Timeless Drama. .......2006-04-01
When this season was first broadcast in 1981, DALLAS was the number one TV show in the world and everyone was talking about it! Season 4 is excellent with big rewatch value and its gripping first few episodes are some of the most watched episodes in TV history. It also includes as an extra the "Dallas Reunion: Return to Southfork" which aired in the USA in November 2004 when most of the original cast reunited (e.g. Larry Hagman, Victoria Principal, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Mary Crosby, Ken Kercheval, etc.), and has reminiscences, bloopers, behind-the-scenes footage and home movie clips.
The picture quality of all 23 episodes in this DVD box set are excellent and very sharp, and better picture quality than the first two DALLAS DVD box sets. WB has cleaned up the picture of most of the dust and dirt in all 23 episodes in this season 4 dvd box set.

The Season 4 DVD opens with J.R. being discovered after being shot late at night in his office after he was nasty to many people. Since J.R. is in hospital, Jock makes Bobby president of Ewing Oil. But his crafty brother J.R. uses the telephone from his hospital bed to scheme against Bobby. Sue Ellen feels guilty that she may have shot J.R. in a drunken stupor and she's arrested after Jock finds the gun used to shoot J.R. with her fingerprints on it. She is released after bail is posted by an anonymous source. She then seeks solace from her sister Kristin and her psychiatrist, after being ignored by the Ewings. Finally, the shooter confesses in front of the familiy.
As Ewing Oil's president, Bobby finds the power intoxicating. J.R. wants Bobby to be a failure at Ewing Oil and so tries to sabotage his plans to buy a refinery, something Jock has always wanted and which J.R. could never accomplish. There are some great scenes between J.R. and Bobby when their relationship deteriorates when Bobby refuses to step down as President of Ewing Oil. Jock finds himself caught in the middle of the conflict, especially as Bobby seems to be doing a better job. One of J.R.'s schemes is the sinking of an oil tanker which could have disastrous financial consequences for Ewing Oil and Bobby. Family matters change forever when Ray Krebbs' presumed father shows up with news that Ray is really Jock's son. Jock shocks the other Ewings when he welcomes Ray into the family. J.R. is still looking for a way to regain control of Ewing Oil, and when an extortionist threatens to blow up Ewing 23, it gives J.R. the opportunity to put a halt to his fading fortunes with the company and the family by out-maneuvering Bobby. J.R. finally succeeds in his plan when Bobby resigns as President of Ewing Oil, and Miss Ellie accuses Jock of unforgivable behaviour when he sets up a trust fund for his new son Ray, something he didn't do for his son Gary. There's more scheming and illegal deals when J.R. goes ahead with plans to topple the foreign government which confiscated his oil fields.
There are two weddings this season. Donna and Ray tie the knot, as do Lucy and Mitch. Bobby's marriage has problems and his jealousy over Pam results in a confrontation with Alex. Miss Ellie's marriage takes a turn for the worse when, unaware that Jock is involved with Takapa, she announces to the family that she has legally stopped the Takapa development and is stunned by Jock's angry outburst "I AM TAKAPA!". This results in the feud between Jock and wife Ellie, as well as threats of divorce. Sue Ellen finds comfort with an old boyfriend and is shocked to find her former lover Dusty Farlow still alive, while J.R.'s new love interest is Mitch's younger sister Afton. Pam believes she has at last found her mother, but all hopes of a reconciliation are initially dashed by the woman. Later, however, there are tear-jerking scenes when the woman comes clean about her real identity to Pam and then to Cliff.
Coming near the end of the season, Kristin returns from California to reveal another scheme. Cliff uses Westar's help to build a case against J.R. in connection with the South-East Asian coup and hands the materials over to the Senate committee. In the exciting final episode of the season, there's a triple-edged crisis for J.R. as he faces the possible loss of Ewing Oil and a prison sentence, a blackmail plot by Kristin and threats by Sue Ellen to take John Ross away from Southfork. Pam kidnaps J.R.'s son from Southfork and takes him to Sue Ellen. Cliff finds a dead body floating in the pool with J.R. looking down from the balcony with broken railings. Who is the dead woman? Did J.R. push her off the balcony? I recommend this Dallas Season 4 DVD box set and the episodes of this timeless and world-famous TV show all stand up to repeated viewings.
