What a hopeless and helpless lovestory.......2007-09-05
Okay, I am going to write something that might upset some people. Remember that I do not approve of paedophile here at all. There has to be a mutual consent before having a sexual intercourse with anyone. And minors cannot possibly give a reasonable consent due to their immaturity + lack of experiences, therefore there is no way for anyone to have sex with people under the legal age limit. It is wrong.
But people sometimes madly fall for someone they must not fall for- A married woman fall for another married man. There is chemistry, but both of you already have kids, and cannot turn a new leaf together by cutting off everyone involved over the long marriage and just wonder what might have happened if ..... for the rest of your life.
Fancying someone and actually sleeping with the person are two different things. Fancying someone who you shouldn't fancy, unfortunately, can happen. But when you go over the borderline, you are turning your back to the world. Jeremy Iron acts brilliantly as a man who drowns in the sea of forbidden love. Humbert falls in love with Lolita. He admits this is sin. But he ended up sleeping with her after her mother died in a car crash. I wonder if he knew what was waiting for him in the end - was he prepared for the painful ending? Or was he blinded by the lust?
The acting in this film is finest. Melanie Griffith acts so well as a loud and pretentious lady, and Dominique Swain is just so amazing.
This is such a hopeless and helpless love story. I always shed some tears at the end.
Messed up Jeremy Irons.......2007-06-19
Jeremy Irons has a penchant for playing messed up characters.
He is a messed up father in law to be who beds his son's fiance in Damage.
He is a messed up twin who dominates his like sibling in Dead Ringers.
He is a messed up lion who kills his elder brother in Lion King.
He is a messed up husband accused of trying to kill his wife in Reversal of Fortune.
AND...
Here is the the messed up stepfather who has an affair with is stepdaughter in Lolita.
Of course, he performs brilliantly.
Okay! I kmow ,I know.......2007-02-26
All Right! I know this is a remake but I like this film! I saw it one Christmas and just the quality of acting stunned me! I then read the book and was surprised it made me feel the same I felt pity for Humbert. Though I know Humbert's obessesion with Lolita is wrong, dangerous and very sick, I felt genuinly sorry for him. Lolita didn't seem to make it too hard for him to fall for her and she certainly didn't discourage or dissuade him when she found out. Jeremy Irons has possibly the most seductive voice in the world, I don't like Melenie Griffith (Mrs. Antonio Bandares) but by God, she's good in this, Frank Langella pops in now and again and he's not too bad, but the real star and the main reason for my watching this was Domonique Swain, a teen star like no other. It is a good oppourtunity to see her raw talent befoire she became really good as an actress. It takes a while to get going and at times falls flat but all in all it is a good story with classy perfomances particulay from Domonique Swain.
Amazing.......2004-01-02
The Most Beautiful Film Ive Ever Seen. Great Cast Of Actors. Irons Is Brilliant In The Movie. Totally Amazing.
One of the best films ever made.......2003-10-25
All to often misconcieved as being 'soft' on paedofilia, lolita is one of the few films to bring a tear to my eye. The tremendous performances of all actors involved seem to incorporate the spirit of the novel in a very tasteful way. Telling the story of a teacher who falls in love with a twelve year old who he meets out of chance and reminds him of a childhood liason, this has got to be one of the best sad films ever made. Lolita is portraid as she is in the book, a sweet and innocent girl who somehow knows exactly how to get what she wants out of men. A very enjoyable piece to view.

Amazon.co.uk Review
A teen-themed entry in the long-established Psycho-Bitch-from-Hell sub-genre of Hollywood thriller, Wicked affords current high school princess Julia Stiles an opportunity to stop smiling and play a manipulative, disturbed, alienated girl who is also the number one suspect in the did she or didn't she batter Mum to death with a heavy tragedy mask mystery.
Set in one of those hideous American "gated communities", a pastel suburban enclave with round-the-clock security and enough adulteries to keep a soap going for a year, the film is subtler than stablemates like The Crush and Teacher's Pet, with a more convoluted plot and enough suspects to put the outcome in doubt. However it's still a by-the-numbers mix of soap and suspense.
Stiles crosses her eyes and pouts a lot, making tastefully incestuous moves on her weakling father (an aptly hollow William R Moses), but she's not really well cast in a role Christina Ricci could have played in her sleep a few years ago. The best supporting performance comes from Michael Parks as a drawling cop brought into the community by the killing of the strident mother (Chelsea Field), who lingers to watch the fall-out as Stiles replaces Mum as the homemaker only to be sidelined in favour of the au pair who needs a green-card marriage.
When the battering and stabbing starts, the film is surprisingly explicit, splattering several distinct types of stage blood around the designer living caricature home.
On the DVD: the picture is an anamorphic 1.85:1 print, with Dolby Digital surround-sound. The minimal extras include trailers, filmographies for very few of the principals, and a neat menu. --Kim Newman
