Amazon.co.uk Review
Director Francis Coppola's adaptation of the popular SE Hinton novel about the price of rebellious youth is notable chiefly for the stunning cast of young actors who went on to rich and varied careers. In supporting roles, the film features the likes of Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Diane Lane, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, and Tom Waits, among others. The story centres on two rival gangs in the early 1960s Midwest, and the violent turf wars that escalate and tragically claim young lives. C Thomas Howell plays the central character who yearns to prove himself and be accepted by his older brothers' gang, while at the same time finding his first love and dreaming of a life beyond his dead end existence. Geared toward the teenage crowd, The Outsiders nonetheless features some fine direction from Coppola in a story that evokes memories of the classic coming-of-age films of the 1950s. --Robert Lane

the outsiders, the best looking blokes in the world!!.......2005-11-11
i have watched my copy of this film over and over again. its older than me because i cant find it on dvd anywhere (which is a disgrace!) i love it, it sports some of the best male talent in the film industry, both acting wise and appearance. matt dilon is really sexy. with his smouldering looks i could just melt and sodapop (rob lowe) is just the cutest thing ive ever seen. this is my favourite movie of all time and i love the fact that it has been so true to the book as well. i think it should be a rule that everyone in this world should watch it at least once. i cry everytime i watch it but there is only one word to describe its excellence, brilliant!!
Amazing.......2004-12-06
I absolutely love this film! I was introduced to it by my older sister and have loved it ever since.. The acting is super with a wicked cast- Tom cruise, Emilio Estevez, Patrick Swayze, C.Thomas Howell and more!! The characters are believeable and you feel a strong empathy with the central character Ponyboy!
I would reccommend this film aswell as the book to anyone!!
Stay Gold Ponyboy, Stay Gold.......2004-06-15
Anyone who doesn't give this 5 out of 5 was watching with their eyes shut and cheese in their ears.
A group of talented young actors in a great movie.......2004-03-21
This movie was the launching pad for the Brat Pack, a group of very talented young actors, some of whom have lived up to the promise they showed in this movie. Like most movies, this adaptation of S.E. Hinton's adolescent novel doesn't quite live up to the quality of the book. However, to include all that the book included, you'd end up with a movie that went beyond the attention span and patience of many in the target audience. If you haven't read the book or seen the movie, please do both, but see the movie first so that it won't be a disappointment.
The Outsiders addresses many issues critical to pre-adolescents and adolescents, like image versus substance, assertiveness versus aggression, and the importance of belonging and acceptance.
I agree with everything!!.......2004-02-16
What can I say that the title does not say already?
I agree with everything already written about this film. I was never into the 'brat pack' when growing up but somehow managed to watch this film and be in awe of it.
It is a beautifully told story (by a 15/16 year old no less). A beautifully acted and directed film. And if I'd starred in it I would not care what had happened with the rest of my career as I'd made a fantastic and lasting piece of humantistic drama. Watch it. You will not be disappointed.

The Hottest Movie.......2007-11-14
I predict this gem of a film will become a big indie hit here in the uk. Directed and adapted by Ethan Hawke (from his novel of the same title) it is a touching and humourous take on first love and tells the story of an actor and singer in their early twenties, still hopefull about their future careers and coming to terms with baggage from their childhood and teen years.
The acting is excellent - Hawke plays the male lead's father, and the scenes in a chilly winter in NYC contrasts beautifully with a trip the young lovers take to Mexico, with Texas, 'The Hottest State' hovering between the two as a haunting lynchpin.
I read the book after seeing the film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and although the story and some of the dialogue remains, I'd rate the film higher than the book - very rare - for fleshing out the characters and places. The whole story seems better ordered on the screen somehow. I think most people will be able to appriciate the acute -and at times acutely painful observations made here.

Thorough instruction by a top instructor!.......2008-02-08
After several 'hit and miss' tries with different yoga programs on DVD I have finally found 'the one' and I will stick with it. Whenever Nicki Doane is ready to come out with her next set of lessons I will be eagerly waiting. In the meantime this will be part of my daily routine.
She not only obviously has the stamina to carry you through all the steps and doesn't just tell you to do repetitions-she does them with you which, along with her wonderful voice, keeps you going. Her interview is lovely as well, gently inspiring and completely natural..a good sense of humor.
Clear instructions and beautiful demonstration.......2007-08-15
Being a part-time yoga teacher, this DVD is the very first ashtanga yoga that I bought. It contains Surya Namaskar (sun salutation) A and B. You need to first get familar with A before moving to B. It is with less postures but more physically demanding than the classic Surya Namaskar.
Nicki is a great yoga practitioner. Watching her demonstration gives me a sense of peace, simplicity, and joy. Compared to other yoga DVDs that I have seen, Nicki can place every posture accurately and almost without any minor adjustments while changing between the postures. It is flowing so smoothly and effortlessly. The instructions are pretty clear - not too much or too fast, so that all the details can be well captured after practising together with the DVD for few times. The pace between each viyansa (one breath + one movement) is moderate which will help you breathe deep enough in order to catch up the speed. I also like the way to chant ashtanga mantra in the very beginning, but for the text of the mantra you have to find it by searching in Google. The DVD which runs smoothly can be used for daily practice.
The DVD was shot at Hawaii where Nicki lives. The scene setting is next to the sea. The background music with mantra chanting is also great. Be sure to watch her interview, which will inspire your yoga practice.
If you are not sure for the posture being demonstrated, in the DVD you can jump to a session that gives you more details, and after than the DVD will bring you back to the original point of demonstration.
The only thing to improve is the inserted poster which gives Surya Namaskar A only. Do not understand why B is not provided. But if you follow the DVD for few times, your body will remeber it, so for me it is not really necessary to have the poster.
I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to explore ashtanga yoga, regardless with yoga experience or not.
Good Introduction and Well Presented........2006-06-26
If you have never done yoga and you want a form of yoga that is going to really work your body into a sweat then this is the DVD for you. It is challenging enough as an introduction and is detailed enough for a total beginner to follow. If you have done another form of yoga, e.g. Kundalini, then you will find some of this is familiar but there is more of a continuous flow. Highly recommended.

Learn to Samba and Get in Shape Too!.......2007-10-23
Quenia Ribeiro's method of teaching you the basic samba steps and slowly (but not too slowly) bringing up the tempo and increasing the patterns will get you dancing an authentic Rio de Janeiro style samba the first time you play this DVD. It is really incredibly simple, and anyone who has the desire to learn will have no trouble at all with the steps, but it can be a workout! If you're out of shape, you'll be feeling it in your legs and may be breathing a little faster too. The samba if done to full speed can be a terrific cardio workout, as well as being enormous fun. Quenia doesn't give you a "warm up" or any preliminary stretches, so some people may want to limber up a little...especially their calf muscles and feet, beforehand. Quenia demonstrates the lessons barefoot on a hardwood floor; I enjoy dancing barefoot and do so on a thick large rug, and find it very comfortable.
There are 2 combinations, the "Samba 2" being harder and a lot faster than "Samba 1." Each is demonstrated first, and then broken down step by step to learn. Quenia is a dynamo with a marvelous personality, and an excellent way of teaching; everything is clearly explained, but it keeps flowing, and is always enjoyable. The music consists of 3 drummers (Nick, Nick and Ze), and they produce a wonderful sound to dance to. The ambiance is good too, in a spacious, well lit studio, and it is simply but well produced, with excellent camerawork. The real treat comes in being able to watch Quenia in lavish Carnaval style costumes (one of them very skimpy but still lavish!) in 3 performances. The amazing platform shoes she wears will astound you and wonder how she can dance in them! This "Dance Today!" DVD is a great addition to a DVD "fitness collection," as well as teaching you how to samba like a native Brazilian.
