review of ultimate street.......2007-08-22
This dvd is a mish mash of different things, its part move tutorial, part routine tutorial, part performance, and part just plain showing off. This dvd isn't suitable for beginner dancers, and the routines require quite alot of space even to practice.
The moves themselves don't have a proper breakdown, and as it seems common in dance videos, the instructor prefers to do things in sets of 4 or 5 moves, which is alittle silly as if you have a problem with one of them, then it ruins the next move and the whole sequence. They would be much better taught individually and then linking them as with other dvds. The moves utilised go from basic to advanced, unfortunately all in one routine, so if you are an advanced dancer, this dvd doesn't have enough, if you are a beginner dancer, forget it.
If you had a choice between unicorn repellent and this, and you are a beginner, stock up on unicorn repellent as you'll simply use it more than you will this dvd. As a beginner you won't keep up and the moves are very complex at times and if its a 40 step routine and you aren't confident with move number 4, there is no way of slowing the routine down. The back button doesn't help because it teaches 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 in one go, so you can't isolate the problem.
This dvd does title itself ultimate street, dance masterclass, so if you're not up to that class, don't buy it. Dance dvds often mislead, this one only slightly but still, they always say anyone can do it :D! Reality check, no not everyone can do it, if you aren't fit, flexible, have good joints, co-ordination and most important, a stack of dancing experience, you will take one look and know "this ain't gonna happen". Better dance dvd's out there that break down the moves for beginners, intermediate and advanced dancers, so I'd look elsewhere and use this purely for inspiration.
Not bad.......2006-11-16
The actual dance routines are good and easy to learn and will look impressive on the dance floor. However, you'll notice that they only teach you to dance to a small section of the song, so if you're out there n the track comes on, you'll end up stopping halfway thru. I reckon they do this to make you go visit their studio to learn more. At first I didn't think much of the work out/stretch routine but keep watching as it does get more interesting. Overall I would say this dvd is good if you just want a couple of moves to show off to your friends but don't expect it to last thru a whole song.
Fantasic lots of fun!!!.......2006-03-14
This DVd is one of the best DVd I have bought. The moves are easy to learn and are well broken down by the dancers. I have no real experience at a professional level and I found the DVd easy to follow. I think that it is a good DVd for beginners and professionals. I lost 4lbs in the fisrt week of doing it and that was only 5 days. I learnt each dance at a time (there are three) they are all good songs to dance to and I shall be dancing away at my Mothers 50th Birthday party!!!!
really cool dance workout Dvd.......2005-08-31
This Dvd was really cool to do, the routines are excellant and real fun to do but also a challenge(that will take some time to master!) but as the instructors say "use the pause and skip back buttons as many times as you like" The dancers are awesome and the teaching is done very well and having enjoyed the other two pineapple dvds i think this one is the best by far and hoping to go to pineapple to take class with stuart and charlotte for real in the future.

You will see the results!.......2007-03-27
I have been doing both workouts for almost 4 weeks now (about 4-5 times a week) and I found that it really works. My cellulite is gone and the shape of my thighs and hips have considerably improved.
I would recommend this DVD to anyone who would like to shape up and are new/beginners to Pilates or Yoga.
Great beginners pilates; yoga...yikes!.......2006-08-01
This was my first attempt at pilates and I found this routine to be challenging but managable and I got a good workout. I found the instructor a bit annoying, but not to bad. It is helpful if you have a resistance band for the workout.
I have other yoga dvds with Suzanne Deason and like them a lot, this one, not so much. She jumps right into the routine with little warm up and the poses are not suitable for a beginner. It will be a long time before I am able to do this routine (and there are no modifications offered).
Have taken to pilates, not sure about the yoga!.......2006-02-09
I bought this DVD having not done any yoga or pilates before, but already being quite fit and wanting to specifically tone and lose weight from my hip and thigh areas.
I have done the pilates section a few times and find it very easy to follow and feel like I am really working the right areas, although it is not a strenous work out. Lots of leg lifts whilst lying on the floor and leg circles. Too early to tell whether I will visibly see results, but will definately keep the work out up as an alternative to a hard cardio session.
Have started the yoga section a couple times but have not completed it as I find it frustrating. I feel the instructor moves through the stances too quickly and I find the repetitions boring. However, having not done yoga before it may just be that I am not used to/ suited to it!
An energetic Yoga workout, beautifully produced.......2005-11-28
For those who like to practise Yoga at home, this video is hard to beat. Suzanne Deason demonstrates this half hour routine on the edge of a Hawaiian volcano, with breathtaking scenery of cinder cones and ash fields below her. After a five minute warm-up, she moves into a twelve minute sequence that starts with lunges then alternates warrior, triangle and side bends with forward bend and dog positions, all practised as a continuous flow. The sequence finishes with balances, as the triangle becomes half moon, warrior moves into exalted warrior (standing stick), finishing with pose of the dancer. This routine is practised fast, with no long holds, by the end I am sweating.
From this, you are taken into a cooling off sequence of bridge pose, followed by lying down leg stretches, forward bend and a series of boat poses. The video finishes with a couple of minutes of relaxation. Having bought this last month, I became hooked straight away. Like all of Suzanne Deason’s Yoga videos, the sound track is clear and easy to understand, even when you are not facing the TV screen. The positions are beautifully choreographed and demonstrated in such a way that anyone can follow and, with practise, keep up.
Some may find the speed of this video rather disconcerting, as they may prefer to hold poses for longer. On the other hand, longer holds would have extended it beyond thirty minutes. The one addition that I would have liked to see is some spinal twists and, if I have time, I add one myself. The DVD is written with stops before each pose so you can add a pose without stopping play, then jump back to replay the section you have just missed.
I cannot comment on the Pilates section except to say that it appears to be beautifully demonstrated, in lovely scenery on a riverbank. It is also about half an hour long.
