Success With Salsacise!.......2008-03-10
I am a 50+ grandma, with an ongoing history of back/joint problems and a dislike of "the gym". Although fitter and slimmer than some my age, I realised my overall fitness level had been markedly deteriorating and I needed to do more, despite walking and cycling regularly. Rosemary's box set has been my salvation and, after just two months of exercising for about one hour, five times a week, I am supple and can actually see my muscles toning up week on week. My family are amazed at the difference in me. This set provides a choice of workouts for all levels but is particularly mindful of those beginning this sort of exercise and those with the need for low impact exercise. I cannot recommend this set enough. Thank you to Rosemary and her teams of "real" people!
Slim and Salsacise.......2008-01-30
I have been a fan of Rosemary Conley for over 10 years. Apart from walking the dog and occasional swimming, I am not very active. But I am constantly being told that I must exercise so I have regularly used Rosemary Conley exercise tapes and CDs. They are low impact and now that I am in my sixties that's all I can manage! This Salsa CD is new to me and I prefer it to straightforward exercise. It is more fun but I feel just as breathless, exercised and toned. I mainly use the easier sessions but I am sure the harder salsasice sessions would be suitable for anyone, regardless of age, who enjoys dancing and likes to keep fit.
Fun workout.......2007-12-29
I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by these DVDs. The workouts are fun and depending on how much energy you put in, you really can work up a sweat. I found the steps easy to follow but I think that's because I already know how to salsa, although the cha, cha cha part isn't what I normally do, but I can see how it helps to burn more calories. If you haven't got much salsa experience it might be a bit challenging but she shows you the moves at the beginning to help you become more familiar with the steps. This is great because you can always go back to double check on moves. The music is a mixture of fast and slow so you're not falling over your feet. When it comes to the 10-minute tone up, make sure you have a resistance band or some weights. But I think the band is better because without it, I didn't feel as if I was really working hard. In fact I wasn't even out of breath. I'm not a beginner at exercising so that could have been the reason. All in all, I would say go for it and get the DVD box set~ it works out cheaper in the end too. Have fun!
Enjoyable exercise! .......2007-04-12
These are the ones that I put on when I've done a more intense workout the day before, as the steps are based on salsa steps it doesn't really feel like your working out. I was disappointed at first as I didn't really seem to be working my body hard enough but my hips and legs have toned up with this and if you do it the day after a harder workout you will feel which muscles are being worked out. Both workouts claim to burn up to 500 calories but that is determined by you as you have to put more energy into the movements to achieve this. Not exactly an all body workout but great for scuplting the legs and hips and if you put enough energy into it you will break a sweat. It's made me consider joining a salsa class too!
Good fun.......2007-02-25
Well, I've got two left feet and previously avoided dance like the plague but in the privacy of my own living room, I'm getting up on my toes and really enjoying dance for the first time. The variety of workouts means I won't get bored - I have really enjoyed this.

Awful.......2007-12-07
I am an ex dancer and i thought this was awful. Why is it called 'shape up and salsacise'? The moves are hardly latin based moves, i fast forwarded the whole video. I suppose it would be good for someone who is a total beginner and has never done salsa dancing or dance aerobics before but i was so bored i felt like i was being spoon fed the boring routines. Where in salsa dancing do they flap their arms like eagles?
Rosemary's 'GI jeans diet' book is good but i thought this dvd was awful.
I love it!.......2007-02-03
I'm a complete beginner with 2 left feet - I love this DVD! Everything is so well shown and explained. It's so easy to follow with steps that are fun and not too demanding. But they're so effective! I can really feel the benefit after only 2 weeks and have tons more energy. I couldn't recommend it more.
so far so good.......2006-12-06
If you're a first timer to exercise videos, try this.
Doesn't take long to get the hang of the steps (all basic), good music and frankly makes working out a bit more like fun!
You can easily set your own pace - 20min or 30 min or combine the two to show off. My favourite bit is the 'timer' in the top corner. It counts the minutes backwards, so if you are flagging - take a peek, not long to go! What've you got to loose? Inches!!
It really works!.......2006-06-21
Having studiously avoided any exercise since those grim days in the school gym, I found myself overweight and out of condition at 40 and in need of urgent action. Started a diet and the weight was coming off very slowly, then I discovered this DVD and everything changed.
I have always liked dancing so thought this would be a good way of exercising without being bored by it - I was right. The salsacise sections are very straightforward and I quickly found myself keeping up with all the steps and putting more energy into it. The commentary is very clear and motivational - I almost wept the first time I heard Rose talking about boosting my metabolism so I would be burning more calories even when not exercising! I now combine both salsa sections plus the toning exercises 4 times a week and I have seen brilliant results after just one month - legs toned and with muscles I had forgotten were there, more energy, and best of all - my weekly weight loss has more than doubled. I really enjoy gyrating around the living room to the strains of Ricky Martin et al, even though my bloke reckons it all looks 'very gay'!
Unlike the first reviewer, I bought this DVD first and then got the older one, and I have to say I prefer this one as the steps look more polished and less ungainly and the routines fit better together and have a better warm up. Maybe its just a case of preferring the one you're used to? The toning band is on a special offer when you buy the DVD so only cost about a fiver with P&P and it works really well. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants an effective and enjoyable way to ease back into exercise.
A Bitter Let Down Compared to The First Workout.......2006-03-27
Let me start by saying I am a MASSIVE Rosemary Conley fan. I have most of her workouts, and am currently following her GI Diet to get me ready for my wedding. Her first Salsacise DVD released last year is my all time favourite workout, and I still do it constantly, which is why I was so excited when I heard a sequal was being released. That's why it pains me to say this is such a let down.
The routine seems so simple compared to last years, I am a regular exerciser, and I really found the fist DVD a challenge. It had some great dancy moves, great music, the class were all really in to it, and had me really out of breath by the end. This time around I can only imagine there had been complaints that the first one was too energetic or something - by the end of it I had barely broke a sweat to be honest. All the best dance moves from last year are missing (such as the great box sequence, and all the cross-back salsas) and the moves that replace them are simplistic, dull and barely get you moving. The music is also really, really bad this time! A couple of the songs are repeated from last year, but apart from that, pretty dire! I also find the class spend most of the workout looking smug, and are not as easy to warm to as last years.
The toning section was OK, apart from mnay of the moves depended on you having a toning band - As I have bought her book and DVD I didn't realy expect to have to pay more money for a band as well! I expected better from Rosemary to be honest. While they are off doing new exercises with the band, those without just have to repet the previous exercises more, and so are not getting an all over workout.
I have given it 3 stars because it is better than doing no exercise, but if you found last years a level that you could exercise at comfortably then do not waste money on this one, as it is a step back. I hope for better salsa routines from Rosemary this Christmas!!
