Amazon.co.uk Review
Coronation Street star Tracy Shaw is more than just a pretty face, she's a cracking co-presenter of Salsacise, a fun blend of salsa and aerobics. Her outfits are enough to inspire any couch potato into getting out and having fun, and her energy is infectious. Whether or not you can keep up with her moves doesn't matter. So long as you keep moving this is an enjoyable work-out that you can do just as easily alone, with your other half or with your mates. Instead of the usual fitness studio the setting is a nightclub, marking this out as exercise territory for the young. After just 10 minutes you'll feel the effects--and that's just the warm-up. The routines (Twist and Shake, Kick Ass Combo and Mambo Mania) owe more to aerobics than salsa. In fact, music aside, there's virtually no real salsa. But the salsa rhythm and spirit is a good way into exercise, and the routines are bound to rub off onto that dance floor. There is even a Fab Abs (mat) section to complete, working out every part of the body. No fitness jargon, no references to dieting and slimming, no lecturing: just pure fun.--Lorna VCustomer Reviews:

The workout lasts about 47 minutes and the sections are (with approximate times):
1) 10 mins Warm-Up, a few stretches but mainly a combination of four moves – mambos, cha cha chas, twist marches and hip marches. These are the basic moves that the rest of the workout builds on. This section really got my heart rate up and I was concentrating so hard on getting the footwork right that the time went by very quickly.
2) 9 mins Twist and Shake, my favourite section. It involves grapevines, kicks, wild arm movements and a bit of leaping about. I had to modify the section slightly so I could fit it into the space behind my sofa – so instead of moving forwards and backwards for the v-step and arm rolls I turn and do it side to side. Very tiring indeed.
3) 9 mins Kick Ass Combo, my least favourite of the three dance routines but it isn’t bad by any measure. It involves some kicks and stomping movements but I prefer when it nears the end and some other movements are added that involve jumping about a bit, as it adds some variety.
4) 9 mins Mambo Mania, my second favourite section. It involves more mambos with some extended twist and hip marches. One of the moves is quite hard to keep up with. At the end I feel as if I’ve done a good cardio workout.
5) 4 mins Fab Abs, a section made up of sit-up variations. It is hard but manageable for me (I normally struggle a bit with toning exercises in DVDs) so it would probably be too easy for fitter people and they’d have to add repetitions (I’d say I’m at an intermediate level). Sit-ups are the only toning exercises so there are no press-ups, leg raises etc but that follows along with the premise of the DVD – it’s about having fun and dancing to build up some sweat, not painful floor work.
6) 6 mins Cool Down involving the usual type of thing, marching, touch-steps and stretches.
Overall, this is a fun, effective workout with lively presenters you won’t mind watching again and again. Some people have commented that it isn’t very hard and you don’t feel as if you’re burning calories but I think that if you put the effort in it does work. Sure, if you do the bare minimum you won’t get out of breath but if you put lots of energy into your leg and arm movements and make the jumps and steps very energetic then you certainly will sweat and feel it, although I admit that you don’t feel near death from exhaustion by the end of it, which I think is a good thing as you look forward to doing it. Some of the steps are a bit hard to pick up first time, but after a few goes I feel much more confident and can do all of them.
Recommended for people who feel that the fun factor is essential for sticking to an exercise regime.
