Very nice combinations, for beginners of tribal style (but not for absolute belly dance beginners).......2008-03-14
i'm on belly dance class for 1 year and am a beginner with tribal belly dance.
Sera explains in a very comprehensible way the movements step-by-step. - the combinations are nice to look upon, but not to hard to learn with a little bit of practice.
the basics are easy to understand and the 6 shown combinations result in a nice choreography.
There are enough lessons to spend some time with this DVD.
It's pretty easy to understand even for Non-native-speakers - she speaks without any slang in a calm way.
only 4 stars because the choreo is done with her ensemble (all in all 4 girls) and the camera angle changes quite often. So you get easily confused when trying to focus on the teacher.
This is only the case with the choreo - the step-by-step explanations of the combinations are just with Sera with a fixed camera angle.
Interesting moves.......2007-11-07
DVD gives detailed and very effective workout, also example of the choreography with detailed explanations for every movement. The level itself is advanced enough that someone who is versed in other dance style can enjoyed it.
Some of the exercises helped me to improve my flexibility and enrich the choreography of my dances.

Very Good.......2008-02-12
Good for beginners and intermediate level. She describes the isolations in good detail and very well.
The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the actual dance at the end was very short and there was no build up of a routine or dance moves. If you run through the DVD a number of times then it is likely you can build up your own dance.
Good menu options, easy to find the section you want and option to play with music or music and voice instructions.
She is very good and I would recommend this DVD.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!.......2008-02-05
Right, as someone who has been interested in this kind of dancing since I was a kid I thought I'm going to buy a couple of DVDs of different styles so I can perfect my technique, get some professional guidance to tighten it all up!
The key word in that paragraph is'professional'!
I think this DVD shows you don't have to have a clue about something to sell a DVD on it!
This woman is terrible!!!
Her technique is terrible! She can't dance, she cant do the moves and shes not a very good teacher!
Belly dance and other similar forms should be just that dancing from your belly!!! Its supposed to look like your hips are not attached to our body and can move all by themselves, like they are being pulled rather than you pushing them around! This woman has no flow, no grace and is about as fluid as a rock!
Save your money a watch Shakira videos on youtube instead of buying this!
"Art is about expression".......2007-10-23
What you will learn most from this marvelous DVD is not so much about bellydance technique, but style. Tempest has a sumptuous, dramatic and elegant style, that also has a whimsical, mischievous side to it...she is both sophisticated and witty in her dancing, and has a sensual grace and beauty in her movements few get to equal. Tempest's arms and hands are exquisite, and she makes a point of emphasizing how important "pretty hands" are and to be aware of the position they are in while dancing.
One of the most valuable sections in this DVD, of benefit not only for bellydancers, but for any type of performer, is "Gothic Bellydance Expression Workshop," where Tempest talks about facial expressiveness, how to convey a "deep sense of drama," the type of smile one should use, and much more. One can see she has had a variety of different dance disciplines that have influenced her, especially Spanish flamenco, which she mentions in this section.
Contents: #1: A "Welcome," where Tempest among other things discusses footwear (the warm-up is done barefoot, the combinations in both platform heels and a pair of killer boots). #2: A nice warm-up that starts with a breathing exercise and has stretches and isolations. #3: 2 slow combinations (lovely and ideal for a beginning student), and 2 fast combinations, that are more in the "punk/industrial" mode. All 4 are demonstrated and then broken down step-by-step. #4: The "Gothic Bellydance Expression Workshop" mentioned above. #5: 2 fabulous performances, that one can watch again and again and never tire of. The first is one where Tempest looks like a honkey tonk saloon girl with a modern day twist, and the second one has the classic appearance of a woman on a Wedgewood vase. Well produced, the teaching sections of this DVD are presented without a horizon line, so that Tempest floats on a blue background, and the music is always interesting and appropriate. Tempest teaches and performs the "...darker, more dramatic side of bellydance," but also says "The most important thing is to have fun." This DVD will make a unique and wonderful addition to your dance instruction DVD library.
Not for really old school goths.......2007-07-17
The first thing I thought when I saw this DVD was WOW, something I can do at home to keep fit that will be fun and have some great tracks. I'd read some of the other reviews and was expecting some great querky goth humor.
Ok, if you were lucky enough like myself to be round the rock clubs in the early 90's or earlier, when goth was all sister of mercy, the mission, Fields of the Nephlim, then you know more about this style of dance than the instructor. I understand she was aiming this at people that know nothing about goth bellydancing but it was over simplified, if you watched the demo's you didn't need to watch the instructions. Someone please take her to carnival of souls. The clothes I will admit were nice but I did get the feeling this was more a self promotion video more than anything else.
If you want to learn gothic bellydance I am aware their are some amazing British instructors going around the gyms in the UK at the moment, why not go along or better yet some one go and sign these lovely ladies up to do a goth bellydancing DVD, please.
I'm very dissapointed with the dvd, I had such high hopes
Great for goths who haven't belly danced or belly dancer who haven't gothed!.......2007-02-28
This DVD is a very entertaining introduction to some basics of this fusion style. As Tempest says in her explanation of gothic belly dance, it is a mixture of various Middle Eastern dance styles and modern goth club dance styles. The defining characteristic of this style is drama - the passionate, artistic expression of a story and mood in a dark vein.
Tempest takes you through a short warm-up and several combinations, both fast and slow, explaining everything from technique to attitude to "pretty hands". She is easy to follow and the DVD is broken up well so that it is simple to find the exact move you want to practice. The moves she teaches could easily be used in performance or just in dancing at a club. It also features a "workshop" on gothic attitude and performance, and two beautiful performances from Tempest herself.
Throughout the DVD, Tempest makes witty quips which could be off-putting to some, I suppose, but I found they relaxed me and helped me relate to her. Best of all I felt that the camera work and backgrounds did not detract from the experience, which can be rare in dance instruction and performance videos.
I felt that everyone could get something out of this DVD. Belly dancers who want to learn how to darken their performances or just want to know what the black heart and soul of gothic belly dance is will find it helpful, as will people of a goth persuasion who do not have dance experience. Seasoned gothic belly dancers may not get as much from this as it is pitched toward beginners, but they may enjoy Tempest's sense of humour and eloquent explanations of this oft-misunderstood style of dance.

Excellent beginners DVD.......2007-10-22
Got a doumbek for my birthday from my wife who belly dances because I'd watched a drum solo and thought 'Hey - I could do that - I could drum, you could dance!' Well, I guess I found it looked easier than it was! I'd picked up hints and rhythms etc. on the internet and listened to some Hossam Ramsey (who's a really nice guy by the way) and bought another instructional DVD by another player which at least got me going, but I'd hit a wall and wasn't really progressing any more. Just couldn't work out 'How do they make that sound?', and 'That bit's so fast, I can't tell what hand is doing what!', and so on.
Now, with this DVD, I feel I'm really making progress again. Amir starts with some practice exercises which of course I skipped and went straight to the interesting stuff. Pretty soon I was back at the exercises - they're really important for building up strength and speed and consistency, I've found, as I couldn't play the more complex stuff at all without a good work out first.
Amir takes each rhythm, starting with the easier ones, and shows the basic rhythm nice and slow so you can pick it up and join in. Then he adds the extra taks and kas and so on and builds up several variations of increasing complexity step by step. The easy ones are not too bad, but I soon found myself having to practice lots to get the next and the next. In this way I felt I was really progressing - each step a challenge but not too great a leap and carfully demonstrated stroke by stroke at each stage.
I've got a long way to go, but now I can see exactly where I'm going and how to get there, and am thoroughly enjoying the journey. I can see this DVD keeping me busy for many many hours to come.
Stu.

Neon Shines in 2 New Dances.......2007-10-22
The 2 dances on this DVD are of intermediate level, the first being much easier, and the second building in speed and complexity, both with wonderful fluid choreography by the one and only Neon; each dance has 11 combinations, which are broken down step by step, not only teaching you the movements, but with an explanation of the technique, so one can learn from Neon's expertise, and with practice, execute all the isolations, as well as add the grace and style these 2 pieces merit. There is an initial demonstration of each dance up to tempo and with music (marvelous pieces by Amir Naoum Chehade and Elias Sarkar, which can be downloaded from the site given on the DVD box), and they are good to watch, as performances, and as goals to aim for after you have learned the choreography. Finally there is a bonus bravura performance by Neon, in one of her exciting numbers where she dances with a tray full of lit candles on her head, which never fails to amaze me!
This well produced DVD has Neon "floating" on a white background, so there is nothing to distract you from the movements being demonstrated. Neon is a stunning Russian beauty in her pink and green dance outfit, with a lithe and toned body that is sculpted perfection, which reminds us that bellydancing, as well as being an aesthetic pleasure in its traditional movements with a modern twist as choreographed by Neon, is also great exercise, and a lot more fun than chugging along like a hamster on a treadmill. Neon's soft accented voice is also a plus factor, because it is pleasant on the ear, and clearly enunciated, so you understand every word as you are being taught. This is an excellent DVD to add to your dance instruction collection, to broaden your repertoire and learn from the best of the best.

waste of time and money.......2008-02-02
For any one hoping to learn to belly dance, look elsewhere for instruction.
This rapid and shallow introduction to an ancient and beautiful dance form is not worth even the small amount of money required nor the time spent watching it.I find it hard to believe this lady has spent much time learning the basics. She may be a fitness instructor but I wonder about her credentials to teach this dance
no stars!
