4 out of 5 stars Brilliant for the price!.......2006-07-12

I think this DVD set is an absolute bargin for under £7. The only bad point about it is that the music is practically the same throughout, which you don't really notice at first, but it does get a little repetitive. I haven't done the Autumn or Winter DVDs yet, so for now I will just review Spring and Summer.

SPRING.
Intro- basic warmup for a couple of minutes
Conditioner- the instucter is really funny in this, chatting and making jokes throughout and it takes your mind off the pain
Pilates- this is slightly annoying as she teaches you one move and then expects you to do 10-12 repetitions of it, without giving you time. But there are loads of useful breathing techniques, so after you have gone through it once with the instructer, you can do it yourself
Kick Fit- this is so much fun, the time flies by. If ever you are feeling a bit stressed, I would recommend sticking this bit on and punching out your stress!
Yoga- you need a chair and a towel for this, it is nice and relaxing

SUMMER
Introduction- short warmup similar to Spring
Bums and Tums- again this is good fun, same instructer as for the conditioner in the Spring DVD. Again, you can feel it working
Below the Belt- you can really feel this working on your thighs, inside and out
Body Blast- this says it is an all over body blast, but it mainly concentrates on your arms. You need a chair and some weights or tins
Iyengar Yoga- lovely and relaxing, you need a chair. I think you need to be quite flexible already to do this, as she asks you to spread your legs really wide and your almost doing the splits! although once you get the hang of it, it is a nice stretch
Abdominal Workout- after all that the last thing you feel like doing is this 30 minute workout. I found it boring and repetitive, in some cases you do about 32 repetitions of the same move! Perhaps if it was a 15 minute slot somewhere in the middle it would be better, but after doing a workout and then winding down with the yoga, the last thing you feel like doing is 30 minutes of sit ups.

They say you can pick and choose which workouts you do, but I find that just sticking the DVD on and going through the whole lot works best (apart from the Abdominal workout in the Summer DVD!) You don't even have to stick to one DVD per season, I have been alternating between these two for a couple of months now. I would definately reccommend it, especially for the cheap price and the fun factor.

3 out of 5 stars Parts of this are quite fun!.......2006-06-16

This workout DVD contains 4 discs, one for each season, and each disc in turn provides you with an hour of exercise, so I'd say it is worth the money if you're beginner or bottom intermediate (or more advanced and looking to do something not too strenuous from time to time). The workouts on each dvd are presented by different instructors which gives you some variety and a change of scenery!

The positive aspects of this DVD is the aerobics, which is fun, as you can see by the smiles on the faces of all the participants. The down side is the time wasted to explain yoga poses in the middle of the session and so you just end up losing pace. For example, on Spring, Kick fit is a brilliant punch-kick aerobics routine which works up a sweat but is fun at the same time. However, this is followed by the yoga, and it takes about 7 minutes to actually get into the exercises, and so your heart rate goes down as you sit around waiting to do some work. On top if it all, the yoga is not challenging at all, so I just use it as a stretch/cool down at the end of the workout, as (and this is another of the negative aspects of these dvds) the cool down is almost non-existent on here, and so I normally add my own stretch for about 5 minutes at the end of the dvd. Overall though, it is worth getting this just for the various aerobics sequences scattered across the 4 dvds.

And by the way, I am not a fitness fanatic, I exercise most days for half an hour with fitness dvds and walk about 20 minutes to work, but other than than my lifestyle is not very active - so when I say the yoga is just too simple, I really do mean it! The Pilates sections are a little better thankfully, but once again, too much time is wasted on talking rather than getting on with the exercise. I understand that this is completely justified, especially for beginners, but in that case the sessions which require a lot of verbal explaining should have been placed at the beginning of the dvd rather than right in the middle, when it simply slows your pace down, just when you were starting to work up a sweat.

This is certainly not a workout video that I would do every day, but I do use the aerobics sections every 10 days or so just to add some variety into my routine, especially when I am too tired to do anything too challenging.

4 out of 5 stars A good start to your fitness DVD collection.......2006-01-17

I am giving this dvd 4 stars as it is great for people who want a taste of lots of different workouts.

It is great value for money as there are four discs each with a different warm up and at least four 15 minute workouts on each disc. The summer disc contains an extra 30 min bums and tums as well.

Although the dvd says to keep repeating one dvd for each season I think this would become very boring even for a beginner. However as the dvd offers so many 15 minute workouts you could pick and choose which ones you like doing rather than work through the seasons.

There are different instructors for each section and you'll probably find you like some sections better than others.

I have done a lot of yoga so I found the yoga sections quite boring as they are very basic but they would be good for a beginner. The pilates sections are very good and have taught me alot about breathing, the instructor also presents the below belt blitz section and it will change the way you think about sit ups. I am now using her techniques all the time.

There are sections that Micah Hudson presents such as some of the yoga, bums and tums section and a couple of cardio sections. These are good but beware if you already own Micah's dvd's as these are just copies of those workouts. (it contains workouts from "Micah Bo" "Micah Bums and Tums" and "Micah Quick Fit" definitely) This makes me think that the other work outs might not be new either. However if you don't own Micah's dvd's then get this as you get his workouts plus more for your money. His cardio workouts are very good but the toning excercises like bums and tums are quite boring and not as useful as the other toning sections on these dvd's.

I really enjoyed the bums and tums sections with Dean Hodgkins. he shows you how to work your abs while standing up and includes various variations of squats, lunges and sit-ups.

If you have lots of experience then you probably won't find this dvd challenging enough. I have still given this 4 stars though because if I had bought this dvd when I was less fit it would have been very good as it allows you to choose the length of the workout. You could start by just doing the warm up and one 15 min section and then adding more as you get fitter.

However if you already own a lot of workout dvd's you will probably be frustrated that the sections are too short.
