Amazon.co.uk Review
Much praised and much missed after its premature cancellation, Firefly is the first SF TV series to be conceived by Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy and cocreator of Angel. Set five centuries in the future, it is a show where the mysterious personal pasts of the crew of the tramp spaceship Serenity continually surface. In fact, it's a Western in space where the losers in a Civil War are heading out to a barren frontier. Mal Reynolds is a man embittered by the war, yet whose love of his comrades perpetually dents his cynicism--even in the 14 episodes that exist we see him warm to the bubbly young mechanic Kaylee, the preacher Book, the idealistic doctor Simon, even to the often demented River, Simon's sister, the psychic result of malign experiments.
Firefly is also about adult emotional relationships, for example Kaylee's crush on Simon, the happy marriage of Mal's second officer Zoe and the pilot Wash, the disastrous erotic stalemate between Mal and the courtesan Inara. Individual episodes deal with capers going vaguely wrong, or threats narrowly circumvented; character and plot arcs were starting to emerge when the show was cancelled. Fortunately, the spin-off movie Serenity ties up some of the ends; and in the meantime, what there is of Firefly is a show to marvel at, both for its tight writing and ensemble acting, and the idiocy of the executives who cancelled it.
On the DVD: Firefly on DVD is presented in anamorphic 1.78:1 with Dolby Surround Sound. It includes commentaries on six episodes by various writers, directors, designers and cast members as well as featurettes on the conception of the show and the design of the spaceship Serenity, four deleted scenes, a gag reel, and Joss Whedon singing the show's theme tune, more or less. One of the things that emerges from all of this is how committed to the project everyone involved with it was, and is--unusually, you end up caring as much for the cast and crew as for the characters.

I hate westerns, but I loved this........2008-03-12
I almost wish I hadn't watched this now. By the end of the series the characters felt like real people to me and I felt sad that we'll most likely never see them again (except for the movie).
I hate westerns and I'll say that this is the best tv show I've ever seen.
I'd heard so much about Firefly, but I was very unsure about whether I'd enjoy it, but it was selling at a reasonable price so I took a gamble and bought it. I'm glad I did. It was worth every penny. The pilot and first few episodes are solid and the remaining episodes are brilliant.
Truly great.......2008-03-07
This is the best sci-fi series ever made. Period. Get it, love it, share it.
the best sci fi show ever.......2008-02-18
I always thought that Farscape, Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis would be my favourite shows, until (on a whim) I purchased the complete series of Firefly.
This show in a word is AMAZING!
Why it was ever cancelled is beyond belief.
Great theme tune as well.
BRING BACK FIREFLY
Shiny!.......2008-01-26
I first discovered Firefly a few months ago, and ever since then I have almost hated Fox for cancelling this show. IT is about the crew of the Firefly-class transport ship Serenity, and how they are wandering the galaxy trying to find work, legal or otherwise. But when they take on two fugtives, they find themselves on the run from the Alliance, the all powerful government over the galaxy, while trying to avoid the flesh eating Reavers.
The Firefly universe is rich with characters, story, action, adventure, and even a little bit of comedy and romance. All of the 14 episodes are really great, but a few stand our more than the rest. The pilot, Serenity, is such a great introduction into the universe and the characters, that it is absloutly unmissable. The story is pretty good as well, with them pulling off a hiest but no one wanting to take the cargo. Out of Gas keeps up the drama of the situation, and continually keeps you thinking: "How the hell are they gonna get out of this one." The Message has a great story, and considering it was the last episode of the series aired, the ending is a great way to say good bye to the show.
The main reason Firefly was cancelled, was due to poor veiwing numbers, which were due to Fox showing the show's episodes in the incorrect order leaving people confused. The pilot was shown at the end, so nobody had any idea how the characters got where they were, who the Alliance was and why Reavers were so scary. If Fox had given it a chance, and produced a whole series and shown it in the right order, this show could have been a classic that lasted for years just like Stargate SG-1.
The Best Ever Sci-Fi Show!!.......2008-01-25
I had read a few reviews about Firefly and found that it had a really loyal fanbase. However I still ended up buying Sernity on DVD first (if I'm honest I took the cheaper option to see if I'd like the storyline and characters). I enjoyed Serenity more than I expected to (the grace of River unleashed as a fighting machine just blowing me away), so I decided to buy Firefly -The Complete Series. From the first episode I was totally hooked. This series was more than I expected and so, so much more than I could have hoped for. I've never really been a Sc-fi devotee. Ok I liked the Star Wars series and Star Trek, but Firefly just grabbed my attention in a way that these bug budget productions never came close to. Joss Weldon's main strength is character development and you get that in spades here. In fact, I'd say that it's the character development combined with the original storline that makes Firefly. Mixing Sci-fi with Old Wild West themes is hardley an avenue of stoytelling that's been flogged to death! But it works, it works really, really well. The emphasis is on strong storylines rather than evil aliens forces or special effects, not to say the special effects aren't good, they are, but theyr'e not what Firefly is about.
The struggles the crew face are more of the kind that people can more easily relate to. Where to find some work. How to get paid for that work without getting ripped off. How to find a way to get along day by day with a crew made up of totally different personalities.
The casting is also just pure genius! I can't imagine anyone elses playing any one of the assembled crew. From the off the wall immaturity of Walsh, to the enigma that is River, to the Captain, Mal Reynolds ( a man imbued with a fierce sense of loyalty, but who in turn inspires that same loyalty in those around him). These are characters you really grow to care about. If you're thinking about buying this then think no more. Just buy it. Right now! If you don't you will be missing out on one of the best tv show series ever made. I've never written a review before in my entire life, but this is the one show that has inspired me to do it. Buy this dvd and enjoy one of the best viewing experiences that you are ever likely to have. The number of people here giving this five stars and the comments they are writing says it all. Shiny!

The only real problem is that given the film's box office returns, further adventures of Reynolds and his crew look unlikely. Unless Serenity turns into a major hit on DVD, that is. It's well worth playing your part in making that happen.--Simon Brew

*SPOILER* Watch the TV series, Firefly first, then the movie........2008-03-12
I understand why some reviewers gave this film low marks. There are nine characters and it's impossible to get to know them all and care about them in such a short amount of time.
I saw this before I watched the TV series and I thought it was entertaining enough, but *SPOILER* I wasn't moved when two characters died. I decided to give the TV series a chance because I'd heard good stuff. I loved it and then decided to watch the film again. It was like watching it through new eyes. I'd gotten to know the characters through the TV series so I cared what happened to them and the film was emotionally involving for me.

I didn't like Serenity at all. I think I'd probably take the characters in Spaceballs more seriously than the ones in this film. I had heard an awful lot of good things about this film and I always welcome a science fiction film of genuine quality, but this was poor. I notice that one star reviews of this film are deemed unacceptable by some other reviewers, despite it being a matter of personal opinion. I wonder if I'll pick up a scorching one-line attack in the Comments section too.
A pleasant surprise, a very good movie........2008-01-25
I wasnt expecting anything special when buying this DVD, I didnt think the 'Firefly' TV series was anything but dull. Serenity however is classic intelligent sci-fi. The synic in me will say that this is basically Buffy in space, but if you can put the fact that the creator of this also created the terrible 'Buffy' series, you might actually enjoy this. The story is good, the acting suprisingly enjoyable and i found myself sucked in. ITs a shame it didnt do well at the box-office as you'll struggle to find a better sci-fi film in the past 5 years.
highly entertaining.......2008-01-14
Wasn't sure what to expect from this film .I like sci-fi. I was pleasantly suprised at how good this film is. Didn't recognise any of the actors at all, that didn't matter. Effects were good and the story was plausible.

Steve Murray's Books and DVD's have truly changed my life.......2007-11-18
I had taken Reiki Level 1 and Level 2 from a Reiki Master in Sedona, AZ, and felt that I wanted to further my Reiki education, but didn't know where to start. I had questions about Reiki that my Reiki Master couldn't answer, and so, I didn't feel confident to go out into the world and practice Reiki in a professional setting. I knew that clients would ask me questions that I, like my Reiki Master, wouldn't be able to answer. So, I prayed for guidance and asked to be directed to someone who could help me.
Not long after my prayer, I found Steve Murray purely by accident. I had gone into a bookstore in Sedona, AZ and on a shelf in front of me was his "Reiki Psychic Attunement" DVD. I was a little skeptical at first, since my Reiki Master had told me that attunements needed to be received in person, but something about his creative use of Reiki intrigued me, so I purchased the DVD, along with Steve's "Reiki Healing Attunement" DVD, and I still can't believe the results I received!
I received such powerful attunements from his DVD's!! I had always been psychic with natural healing abilities, but his attunements seemed to amplify my skills even more! I began having consistent clairvoyant visions after taking his "Reiki Psychic Attunement" DVD, and I received almost instant healing of some stress related conditions, I had been dealing with for some time, shortly after taking his "Reiki Healing Attunement", from his DVD. The results I received were nothing short of miraculous! I definitely knew then that there was power in his DVD attunements! And that attunements didn't have to be taken in person in order to be effective!
So, I purchased all the rest of his DVD's and Books and have never been disappointed!! His Books are written so clearly and concisely that anyone, no matter what their educational background can understand them . Steve is very generous with the wealth of information he provides in both his Books and his DVD's , and when I was finished (reading his books and taking his attunements) I truly felt I had finally attained a solid foundation from which to practice Reiki professionally.
I ended up finishing my Reiki Master with Steve Murray, and I truly feel it's the best decision that I have ever made! All my questions about Reiki have finally been answered through his Books and DVD's and I feel so grateful to have found him!
If you are interested in Reiki education, there is no better person to work with than Steve Murray! I have read many, many Reiki authors and there is no one that comes close! I am convinced, that the results you'll receive, from Steve Murray's Reiki Books and DVD's, will truly astound you! As they have truly astounded me! I don't care what anyone says, distance attunements really work!!!
My dream has been, for sometime now, to practice Reiki professionally, but I was afraid to, because I didn't feel I had all my questions answered. I didn't feel I had a solid foundation from which to work from, but now, because of Steve Murray's Books and DVD's, I feel that I finally have the knowledge and confidence necessary to succeed! Steve Murray's Reiki Books and DVD's have truly made my dream a reality! And for that, I will be forever grateful to him!
Whether your goal is to work professionally with Reiki, or to use it to heal and enhance your everyday life, you can't go wrong with Steve Murray's Books and DVD's. They are truly worth the investment! I know I will be referring to them for reference, and reinforcement, for many years to come! God bless Steve Murray!
Fantastic.......2007-10-16
This DVD was my first experience of distance attunements and being curious, I wanted to test it myself and to see if it works. It was a wonderful experience during which I have released some of my own issues. Since then I used this DVD as another form of meditation. This DVD is very helpfull in selfdiscovery and spiritual growth.
Also this is not a program that's used just once.So money well spend as this wasn't and isn't a hoax or some cheep trick.
This is the most powerful one i ever received on Dvd or in person.......2007-05-11
Recently while searching for some music, I came across Steve Murray's DVD programs for attunement. First impression was that, this must be fake. As it was in total contradiction to the learning's I learnt during my Reiki 2nd degree in India. I went on to read the reviews and none of the reviews were negative. All people including some Reiki masters were in praises for Steve's program. I took the chance and ordered his first book, 1st cd and DVD attunement for 2nd degree. I wanted to take this again for reinforcement and to give my wife 2nd degree who was a 1st degree. (My intention was to try his claim first before I venture into a master attunement of Reiki through DVD)
Last week I received the dvd and the first thing was to play the dvd to see myself, if it works. It did work. It was a very powerful attunement & I received it all through a DVD, isn't it amazing.. Immediately after that my wife took the attunement and she also felt extreme heat and tingling sensation. Now she is a 2nd degree and her Reiki is flowing beautifully. The first line of his book, which says "I believe at this very moment as you read this, our vibrations and energies are connected in the now". As soon as I read this I felt I am connected to Steve. When I played his attunement cd part 1, I felt a gentle shower of Reiki all over me. Its playing right now and I can feel Reiki all around me. Since then I have taken both 1st & 2nd degree attunements a couple of times and every time I feel an increase in my energy levels. I feel my hearing ability has increased; now I can pick up sounds quite far from me. My smelling ability has increased, my concentration and consciousness has increased too.
Giving attunements like this proves that Reiki works in past present and future all layered together. This even supports the string theory proposed by Einstein and the 11 dimensions we live in. probably Reiki works in all those 11 dimensions just by our intent. Steve has done a great think to mankind by his video programs. He is in fact a time traveler who travels forward and backwards in time by his Reiki and gives the attunement to us whenever we watch his videos and listen to his cds. His attunements on Dvd cost just 30 whereas taking a master attunement cost $1,000 in India and up to $10,000 in US. He has made Reiki available to the masses virtually at no cost. This way more and more people can use this power and be healed and heal others. Reiki is a free gift from the supreme power and should be available for masses. I honor his Reiki mission which is to spread Reiki to everybody for their betterment.
I also ordered his subliminal programs; currently I am using Quit Smoking and Stress relief. Only 3 days have passed doing these programs. I already feel that my stress levels are going down. The second day I lit the cigarette but I couldn't pull, I felt as if the smoke is killing me. Immediate reaction was to throw the cigarette and now I don't feel like smoking anymore, touchwood. Next weekend I will be taking my master level attunement and I feel so happy about it.
Two days back i tried the psychic attunement dvd. Since last 5 years i felt that my third eye was blocked and there was minimal or no flow of reiki over there. My previous two reiki master gurus agreed to this but could not do much about it. Because of this factor i was not able to concentrate well too. I wrote to Steve and he asked me to take this psychic attunement. I felt very powerful vibrations during the attunement and i can still feel that energy is flowing through third eye. i will again take it after three weeks(Steve says that this should not be repeated before 3 to 4 weeks). Since then I am feeling at a higher elevated level. Yesterday mailman came and I asked him about my packet which I was expecting. He said that he does not have mine. Intuitively I told him that its in the van, he didn't agree and said that he knows his packets well to deliver. I looked inside the van and there were a lot of packets. Intuitively my eyes stopped at one and I told him that see this packet. Reluctantly he took that packet out of the heap and guess what, it was my packet of the rest of the products from Steve.. This is the power of this attunement. Just take this but don't expect a miracle, let things unfold on there own. You will see a difference in yourself.
I recommend the entire set of dvd's and books by Steve to everyone who is on a spiritual or just healing journey. Once you use these products with a open mind, your life will never be the same again
I urge everybody to experience Reiki. It can change your life for good in so many ways. It will heal you on all levels and make your surroundings more pleasant. After some time of continuous use, you will feel that things have started falling back in place on their own. You can go and take a Reiki session from a Reiki healer or try "Reiki 1st Level Attunement - Become a Reiki Healer (2004)" by Steve Murray. Any of the options will not cost you more then 30 - 40 bucks and you can experience the divine power of Reiki. It's such a nice experience to feel life sustaining force flowing through your body at your wish and you can direct it anywhere you like, even heal a living being. From there it will depend on your fate and your karma. But at least let your body experience it once. I can bet that this might be the best investment you can ever make in your entire life.
