average.......2006-01-08
this film is average. its funny in places, primarily where ben stiller is in it. ben stillers performance is the highlight of the film, all you can notice from it is where they got the idea for the character in dodgeball from. the other characters in it are unneccesarily cheesey, with such lame quotes as "i am crazy...crazy for my gal"...
the film is one of those underdog victory films, where they overcome the bad guy, but he makes a comeback, but they defeat him again and celebrate and everybody falls in love! dont buy it, chances are it will be repeated on tv some time in the future, then you can make your mind up for yourself!
best!.......2005-05-19

a great watch for ANYONE in the family.......2001-02-08
For anyone unfamiliar with Ben Stiller's earlier work, CHECK THIS OUT. It is the funniest film he has ever been in by far, and the most accessible (no crude/vulgar humour). There is enough stupidity for the kids, and enough dark humour for older viewers, but they never get in the way of each other, making this the perfect film for ANY occasion. It's basically a very thin plot about a boy who is forced by his parents to attend 'Fat Camp' for the summer, and the fat camp is taken over by a complete psycho son of a millionaire, Tony Perkis (Ben Stiller) who has never had any interaction with children as he was home-schooled. Watch out for a german guy called LARS, one of the staff of 'Team Perkis', as he tries to persuade the children to play "The fan gayme which helps us leern each awtha's naames". A comedy classic!!!

Latest on the list of J-horror films to geta US makeover, One Missed Call is Takeshi Miike's Ringu/Phone ripoff, and a surprisingly low-key and tasteful (by Miike's standards) one it is too. It's also too long and suffers from an ending that's a little ambiguous in the "What's that all about, then?" way, and it seems a little awkward to have a major plot point revolve around Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy now that the condition has been widely repudiated as the invention of a vindictive misogynist who gets his jollies from giving false evidence in cot death cases. The plot involves a vengeful spirit that finds its next victims from the memory of the latest victims mobile phones, sending them a message from the future offering their last words, and the plot developments are pretty much as you'd expect. There are minor frissons in the death scenes, and there's a neat setpiece where a live Geraldo Rivera style show centered on the next victim's last few minutes goes spectacularly pear shaped, but it's also overlong and the execution is often a little too clinical for the material. Minor Miike, but once it builds up a head of steam it's an okay potboiler.
