Let's Go.......2008-01-05

Great to hear (and see) the Cars live. As the previous reviewer says, Let's Go - full of heavy guitar, bass and keyboards - is a revelation, a completely different and much better song from the original. Worth the price of the package alone.

'A Great Value Treat For Fans'.......2007-03-28

As a big fan of the band I eagerly anticipated the U.K release of 'Unlocked'. The good news is that it was well worth the wait. The DVD is not like most live music DVD's. Rather than featuring an entire Cars concert it is made up of rare footage shot at different times in the bands history. As anyone that has ever saw the band live will know, The Cars stage performance consisted more of projecting an image than on dynamism (Ric Ocasek stands aloof at the microphone with his dark sunglasses on more often than not!). So there are no 'Pete Townsend moments' to be seen here but what The Cars lacked in performance they certainly made up for in sound and a lot of the live versions here are stunning. In fact, I guarantee you will be fishing out all the old albums again after watching this. Particularly good is the live version of 'Let's Go' from 'Candy-O' which really rocks!
There is no narration to accompany the live footage but tracks are interspersed with clips of a more personal nature of the band. A lot of this can safely be filed as 'backstage shenanigans' but there are some funny moments that will delight fans and some touching ones also regarding the sadly missed Ben Orr. The picture quality is not always great due to the age of some of the footage but the way Ocasek has put this DVD together it really doesn't spoil the enjoyment one bit. Add to this the fact that the DVD comes complete with a bonus 14 track live album (full length versions of some of the tracks featured on the DVD) and you have a great value buy for fans.
