Sweet........2005-04-01
I only took a liking to this film when I watched it with the director's commentary. It's an incredibly sweet story about a black girl from an upper middle classed background and a white girl from a working class background. The story isn't so complex, but then that's not what this film is about. It's incredibly sunny and optimistic, which at first seems unrealistic. For example, the ending is more like a comedy sketch, and a teenager dating a thirty-something broad seems really unlikely. But it's about coming out, finding your first love - and I think that is very well portrayed. Randy and Evie are remarkably cute, and I wonder why I haven't seen them elsewhere.
This is clearly a budget film - if you watch closely, you'll see there are about ten other people who wander around the school, but other than that the set is deserted. The acting is at times cheesy, but the only real culprit is the boyfriend of the Broad, who reminded me of Johnny Bravo without the bleach.
A fresh look on an old story..........2003-03-21
Overall, I found this movie was interesting and entertaining, though in some parts I thought it was threatening the boundaries of realism. At first, the film seems stereotypical when the young butch lesbian is introduced. Then her feminine love interest comes along and she is found questioning her sexuality when the pair fall in love. Though some situations they find themselves in seem extreme, it is absolutely hilarious to watch. One scene in particular is cringe worthy, and you just know they are going to get caught by the unaware mother.
The story does tackle some good issues, as do most lesbian flicks, and it is worth watching, even if only for the humurous scenes.
Enjoyable, as well as real - Fantastic!.......2002-03-24
This is a well made film, without following normal teen format but dealing with teenagers. As Randy (the principle character) is a bit of a stereotypical tomboy lesbian, I was a bit worried to begin with but then along comes Evie, a completely different girl but easy to identify with. The two seem to balance each other nicely.
The story shows the two falling in love as well as dealing with the two different backgrounds, displaying the families and high school circles etc. And in the face of prejudice and uproar the two girls show a united front and prove that the film is more about being in love than it is about being homosexual, it's ideal for anyone who likes a love story and a bit of a giggle.
My only criticism is it hard to believe that Randy's previous shallow lover is of Randy's tastes but you never know! The rest is fab, so an easy four stars :-)
A Real Story of Lurve.......2000-04-05
I enjoyed this movie a lot because I could relate to the two girls. I found this movie one of the best I've seen because most films show lesbian relationships in a negative way but this didn't have as much negativity in it. This film is definately worth 5 stars and well worth checking out even if you aren't a lesbian.

Low budget creation.......2005-09-07
I am afriad this film depresses me from the beginning to the end. The characters in the story are not convincing. The plot is really weak and the actors are not acting but just keep on talking in front of the camera. The quality of the picture is really bad and the acting is incredibly amateurish!
Fair, if not breathtaking.......2004-07-21
Fair film, that easily passes the time of day.
The acting seems wooden and stilted. The story bumbles nicely along - don't expect anything too groundbreaking.
Annoyingly, the camera seems to crop the top of the characters heads off.
Fantastic insight!.......2002-05-28
In this film about several gay couples, we enter a world of complex emotions and different situations. We discover much that needs to be known about gay relationships, emotions and sexual feelings. The story involves 3 couples going on holiday to a cottage in the countryside, and discovering that being in a relationship is not always the best thing and temptation can get the better of them! The camera work is excellent in the more explict scenes, leaving a fair amount up to the imagination! I give this film 10 out of 10 for entertainment value. A must for all gay men!

too bad to be true..........2007-05-29
Surely, James Foley's WORST movie. A sleazy imitation, an insipid mixture of "psycho haunts decent family" sub-genre of thrillers like "Cape Fear", "Fatal Attraction", "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" and even "Straw Dogs".
This flick is lacking all four essential elements of a powerful movie: originality, believability, substance and style. Characters are unbelievably funny & silly, so are their affairs. Lines are cheesy, plot is predictable & stale. On the other hand, Carter Burwell's scores and Thomas Kloss' cinematography is surprising good, but not making "Fear" a decent movie.
The movie highlights the importance of "being daddy's girl", otherwise some fatal complications may arise as we see: a pretty, mini-skirted but naive & stupid 16-year old blonde Nicole lives with her overworked as well as overprotective dady, her stopmom and stepbrother. One day, thanks to paternal pressure, Nicole decides to put on her miniest-skirt, wears 5-gallons of makeup and cuts class with her promiscuous & drug-addict girlfriend and goes to a bar. There, at first sight she falls in love with billiard-playing, tight-bodied but half-brained hoodlum, David.
After several trysts, full of saliva-free kisses, one night David strips Nicole of her virginity. Then he becomes obsessive, overprotective and violent. Overwhelmed by his "shifted" personality, Nicole decides to leave him. Also, her daddy warns him to stay away. But ignoring warnings David goes berserk and unleashes terror by infiltrating her life, decapitating her dog, destroying daddy's car, demolishing their house, spilling blood, and ultimately taking their house hostage in a carbon-copied "Cape Fear" fashion which is replete with ridiculous, trite and stale scenes seen in cheap, B-grade horror flicks. The final scene is the most terrible of all, desperately imitating Sam Peckinpah's "Straw Dogs" but it screws up all the money and effort.
This is what it is. A nightmarish experience for mature, intelligent and conscious viewers. We have seen such craps zillions of times. I wonder how some gifted people opted to be involved in such an inane project. I'm giving 2 stars for sake of musical scores and cinematography.
Amazing !.......2004-02-21
If there are any Reese Witherspoon fans out there, then this you must see this film.
It is a great film with terrific acting. It see Nicole (Reese witherspoon) meeting a guy and thinking that he is the one when all of a sudden he goes Psycho on her and her family. Mark Wahlberg plays the terrific stalker boyfriend David and charmed Star Alyssa Milano plays the tarty best friend Margo, which is a change from her normal role as good witch Phoebe on charmed. This is a good film that very different from other Reese witherspoon films like Legally Blonde as it is chilling and freaky. The situation that Nicole oes through could happen to anyone so this makes the film even more disturbing yet interesting. I suggest Reese fans see this film and even if you are not a Resse fan still watch it !!!!!!
Not a bad film.......2004-02-04
I first saw this film just after I had started watching Alyssa Milano in her tv show, Charmed. I was flicking channels, and was surprised to see her, and then even more surprised when she turned in such a different role to the ones I was used to seeing her in (though I later found out she had played similar characters before). Seeing her made me want to watch the film, and I was glad I did. It is relatively well acted, and has a good plotline, though they never quite explain why the boyfriend flips out, or how he gets a gang of people to follow him, apparently convinced that he is sane. The climax is pretty effective, (watch out for the dog in the door, you'll get a nasty surprise), and though it was not nearly the most frightening, or the most suspense filled film I have seen, I did want to watch to the end, if only to see how everything turned out. Not everyone's cup of tea, but not one to miss if you're a fan of anyone acting in it. Animal lovers, beware watching.
wow! a classic!.......2003-10-08
I just loved this film, I hate to think how many times I have watched it, you have the goodlooking "perfect" boyfriend who turns into a psycho obsessive partner - really great stuff, it had me on the edge of my seat and when it finished I wanted more .....
