Great suspenseful horror movie! 2 thumbs up!.......2008-01-27
I was having second thoughts on purchasing this movie - mostly because of the extreme number of bad reviews. I haven't let bad reviews scare me away so far, so, I ignored them and went ahead anyway, and I'm glad I did.
Paradise Lost is a great horror movie that any horror buff will love. It's jam packed with everything, and most importantly has a lot of suspense - which is the key in any horror movie.
I won't give away the story for those who haven't seen it. All you need to know is this is a great movie. Not just for renting, purchasing too. There are a lot of intense scenes here that bring a sense of realism to the situation these young tourists are in. Deff a great film to add to your scare collection.
Two thumbs up!!
FILM OR MOTHER IN-LAW ?.......2008-01-02
I was looking forward to watching this but it was not as good as I was hoping. The underwater swimming scenes were amazing if the caves were set up for the film or they were the real deal rather them than me. There are to many of this sort of film being made today and personally I am getting bored of them. If the phone rings just as you are about to start watching it and the mother in-law is on the other end it may be a tough choice what to do next watch the film or speak to her. I hate to say it speaking to the mother in-law might be the better bet but only just you have been warned.
a good gorey movie lacking in depth or interest.......2008-01-01
When it's gorey, it's great. The rest of the time it's simply average. The character development lent nothing to the movie save to make each characters mutilation and death all the more satisfying (as in: "finally they're dead!").
To be fair, however, the character's were well played; their idiocy and shallowness was nothing short of convincing. If you enjoyed such movies as "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Scream", you will love this movie. However, for anyone looking for a little more than "hot bodies" and "bloody deaths", wait for it to come out on TV...or the price to drop below £5.
I cheered on the baddies.......2008-01-01
The group of backpackers are so cheesey and disagreeable I wanted their sticky end to come much sooner than it did
This is an exploitation film that lacks the courage in it's less than wholesome convictions
It begins promisingly and daftly enough but the last half is just tedious to the point that, yes, I was hoping the baddies would triumph
The cast give it their all though, I'll give them that, poor loves
Fans of British Tea Time Telly will enjoy appearances from Angel from 'Home and Away'; Kristian from 'Hollyoaks' and that one who was in 'Grange Hill' who was also in that film 'Go'
I can't imagine the Brazilian Tourism Office went a bundle on this one: a 'bloody foreigners' horror movie, yet another in a depressingly increasing line of this rather bone-headed genre
Okay.......2007-12-15
Rather predictable, just gorgeous people when end up in the wrong place at the wrong time

Something for ALL metal fans.......2007-12-19
This 2 disc DVD is a documentary with band members of the seminal Paradise Lost, and is a retrospective of their twenty year history to date.
If you have ever had any interest in the metal scene from the end of the 80's onwards, then this DVD is a MUST see.
The first disc is the actual documentary (both the released one, and the directors cut, which is about 20 minutes longer), and includes commentary by the band members, as well as other label mates and fans.
The history, warts and all is covered, and there is some decent live footage and promo vids thrown in. The documentary goes at a good pace, and good mention is made of all the influences at the time (Kerrang!, Metallica, Hammy, Music For Nations etc), through to present day, the change in direction, and what the future holds.
But the real appeal to metal fans will be the second disc, where there are FULL interviews with Greg (lead guitarist) as well as Christina Scabbie of Lacuna Coil, and Aeron's memorbilia collection. Out of all of this, it is Gregs interview that stands out. He covers all the early years, and does not shy away from the difficult subject such as his depression, the ejection of Matt "Tuds" Archer, and the later drummer recruitment difficulties. But is is all treated very fairly and very evenly.
This is unlikely to recruit new fans, but it does offer those existing convertees and good glimpse into the world of metal and touring and pressures from records labels.
If you were ever into the likes of Napalm Death, My Dying Bride, Lacuna Coil, Cathedral, early Metallica, etc then you will love this DVD.
Brilliant.
