Movies based on computer games generally aren't well respected, but just because they aren't high art doesn't mean they can't be highly enjoyable. The only catch is that you need to be a fan of computer games to appreciate them. Resident Evil: Extinction is the third movie in the massively popular Resident Evil franchise, and it's probably the best one yet.
Between Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Extinction, the zombie-creating T-virus has spread far beyond the doomed Raccoon City; now the human race is almost extinct (hence the title). When a convoy of survivors meets up with the genetically-altered Alice, the shadowy Umbrella Corporation does everything in its power to take them down and reclaim her; but Alice isn't giving up without a fight...
Resident Evil: Extinction is part zombie movie, and part post-apocalyptic survival yarn. The big set pieces use CGI that doesn't look anything like reality, but does look very much like a computer game, which is possibly intentional--since this is a sequel to an adaptation, Resident Evil: Extinction does tend to assume a built-in audience which is already familiar with the various quirks of the franchise. If you're a fan of the games, you'll enjoy the various references to game characters and events; if not, you might feel a bit left out. It's not the best entry point to the franchise if you're a complete newcomer, but if you've seen the other films, it's a hell of a lot of fun. -- Sarah Dobbs

One star because I cannot give it no stars.
A feeble excuse to move from one fight/shooting/zombie scene to the next. No plot. No story. No excuse.
The laziest excuse for a movie I have seen in a long, long time.

The ratings should not come as a surprise ... and if they are like most fans of the Resident Evil series there's probably a star extra there for 'sentimental' reasons. It was a HUGE let down. so bad I fell asleep in the middle of the film !!!! Asleep !!!! The story and filming and action are all really sub standard and below par. The only good thing is Milla. she is as gorgeous as ever but I think even her agent will be advising she lets this dog die. There's no way they should be thinking of doing another one of these.

First things first; the 3rd film in the resident evil series, is NOTHING like the first 2. Its bigger, stupider, and definately hasnt got the same cyber-horror feel. Milla jovovich (in my opinion), has only been good in 2 movies: Joan of Arc and The Fifth Element. All she does in Resident evil 3 is kick the guff out of over-the-top zombies and retarded dogs.
The film itself has a simple plot and by the way: dont think that by getting this, youll be getting the end climax for the saga. 'Extinction' generally means 'none left of a particular group or species', this is not the case. In fact the human race is still very much intact. Leading on to another film.

Crud. The worst of the trilogy. All hype and no delivery. Do yourself a favour and watch your goldfish swimming in their tank - it's more rewarding.

I rushed out to get this as soon as it was available, as the whole Resident Evil zombie approach is really good. This is not a bad addition to the series. But small things bug me about it, for example the survivors in the convoy have been living with the zombies for at least 6 months but still they wander round with bare skin knowing full well that one small bite is enough to change them into a zombie. Also when one of them is involved in a close encounter with a zombie nobody thinks to check whether he has been bitten. In reality by this stage people would be absolutely paranoid about this. It is an ok film but as usual with sequels lacks the brilliance of the original.

it was a bit like resident evil meets mad max with an endless search for fuel, the alice character was very good but for me i thought the other films were better, I only watched the 2nd one last week as I knew this one was coming out & really looked forward to watching the latest straight away but it wasn't up to my expectation.

Milla Jovovich returns as Alice in the third installment of Paul Anderson's Resident Evil series, following straight on from the previous film. Alice is on her own and aware that she has become a liability and could endanger those around her, she is struggling to survive and bring down the Umbrella Corporation led by the sinister Albert Wesker and head researcher Dr. Isaacs. Meanwhile, traveling through the Nevada Desert and the ruins of Las Vegas, Carlos Olivera, L.J., and new survivors K-Mart, Claire Redfield, and Nurse Betty (with the unmentioned absence of Jill) must fight to survive extinction against hordes of zombies, killer crows and the most terrifying creatures created as a result of the deadly T-Virus that has killed millions.
If you've read my other review for Resident Evil: Extintion (standard DVD) which I wrote after seeing it at the cinema a few months back, you'll see that I wasn't all that keen on it (giving it 3 stars) but now after watching it again on Blu Ray, my expecations were lower and for some strange reason, I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more the second time around. Ok the action is ridiculously over the top, the acting is cheesy and isn't all that great, but if you watch it as the brain-less, action/horror that it is, it is extremely enjoyable and I now even think that this is my favourite of the three. My advice would be turn the lights off, crank the volume up high and sit back and enjoy 90 minutes of zombie killing entertainment.

Average enough film, milla jovovich is not the greatest of actors, but it is watchable none theless, Probably the best out of the whole 3, 1 being goog, 2 being terrible, 3 being the best. The quality on blu-ray is exlellent, absolutely no grain.
girls, guns and .... zombies !!.......2008-02-27
Loved this film (for the reasons in the title) was loads better than the first 2 and the brilliant special effects makes it a cut above from other recent zombie movies from the last 10 years. On the blu-ray istelf a Stunning picture quality can be found and great use of scary surround sound will really get your heart jumping in places, Loads of extra features as well on the disc (as long as your bd player supports it) including picture in picture and a ton of deleated sceans. One of the best uses of the blu-ray technology i have seen to date.

Resident Evil 3 is the worst movie I have ever seen in the cinema.
One thing I keep asking myself: why does Milla Jovovich even have an acting career? Her biggest problem is that she can`t act, and I`m sure she would agree. Her solution: to remove all of her clothes and display those perky breasts. This solution is "bared" out nicely in the first 3 minutes of this movie. But what`s going to keep our attention for the remaining 1 and a half hours?
This is the first time that I have sat through a movie where I was pleading for something interesting to happen. Surely I haven`t wasted 2 hours of my life and my hard-earned cash? Alas, I had. There is no screenplay, p-poor direction, wasted CGI, and a plot even a 2 year old would baulk at.
Cynics amongst us could say that Ms jovovich is put in films simply so that those "pervy" directors can simply get into her pants. Quite frankly, I can`t think of any other reason for employing her. By the way, the Director of the Resident Evil franchise Mr P W Anderson has gotten her pregnant. Job done then! He`s proved my point, although it did take him 3 movies..........
