Amazon.co.uk Review

This 1987 thriller was a predictable hit with the teen audience it worked overtime to attract. Like most of director Joel Schumacher's films, it's conspicuously designed to push the right marketing and demographic buttons and, granted, there's some pretty cool stuff going on here and there. Take Kiefer Sutherland, for instance. In Stand by Me he played a memorable bully, but here he goes one step further as a memorable bully vampire who leads a tribe of teenage vampires on their nocturnal spree of bloodsucking havoc. Jason Patric plays the new guy in town, who quickly attracts a lovely girlfriend (Jami Gertz), only to find that she might be recruiting him into the vampire fold. The movie gets sillier as it goes along, and resorts to a routine action-movie showdown, but it's a visual knockout (featuring great cinematography by Michael Chapman) and boasts a cast that's eminently able (pardon the pun) to sink their teeth into the best parts of an uneven screenplay. --Jeff Shannon

i'm a huge fan of scary and grewsome films but this film is the best. it's an original thriller that has scares and laughs in it. jason patrick suits well playing the good guy and kiefer sutherland does things best playing the bad leader of a vampire clan. the frogg brothers make the film all that better by adding humour. this film is a must see, it's truely a good make in the film industry.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Film!!.......2008-01-24

I heard about this film from a friend and thought i have to check it out and wow it is one of the best films i have ever seen. I am a very big Kiefer Sutherland fan and this has to be one of his best works. The mix of vampires and awesome script just blows you away like "Death by Stereo" the greatest line in this film.
In all i say buy this film it is just amazing!

5 out of 5 stars " Don't do it Michal, It's blood".......2008-01-05

What a classic. I thought it was gonna be scary when i first heard about it because i get scared at anything!!!! But it's not that scary it's quite violent though when someone gets the back of his head bit!

4 out of 5 stars Not Lost in time.......2007-11-30

I watched this when i was about 14, and it was a great teen film, so as it was cheap on Amazon i thought i would reminish, it was as good as i remember!
the soundtrack is fitting and dramatic and the acting makes some modern films look like soap-acting, very believable. The special effects are up there with other films such as American Werewolf,, for the modern looking style, and the directing means the suspense is held with perfect camera angles and scene-settings - particularly the Vampire lair.
Worth it at the current deal price, go and get it!

4 out of 5 stars Fantastic Soundtrack for one of Kiefer's first outings.......2007-11-25

Director Schumacher does a good job & the whole film is pretty stylish throughout, there's some nice Vampire attack scenes, some good action & he keeps things moving at a nice pace. I also have to mention the soundtrack as it's brilliant, I don't usually notice the music in a film that much unless it's really bad but The Lost Boys has a fantastic 80's soundtrack that I thought was great. There's some decent gore although it's not too gruesome, there are some exploding Vampires, stakes through the heart, impalings, severed limbs, melting Vampires, biting, blood squirting, flesh ripping & of course death by stereo.

Amazon.co.uk Review

A sleeper hit when released in 1986, Stand by Me is based on Stephen King's novella "The Body" (from the book Different Seasons); but it's more about the joys and pains of boyhood friendship than a morbid fascination with corpses. It's about four boys ages 12 and 13 (Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell) who take an overnight hike through the woods near their Oregon town to find the body of a boy who's been missing for days. Their journey includes a variety of scary adventures (including a ferocious junkyard dog, a swamp full of leeches and a treacherous leap from a train trestle), but it's also a time for personal revelations, quiet interludes and the raucous comradeship of best friends. Set in the 1950s, the movie indulges an overabundance of anachronistic profanity and a kind of idealistic, golden-toned nostalgia (it's told in flashback as a story written by Wheaton's character as an adult, played by Richard Dreyfuss). But it's delightfully entertaining from start to finish, thanks to the rapport among its young cast members and the timeless, universal themes of friendship, family and the building of character and self-esteem. Kiefer Sutherland makes a memorable teenage villain and look closely for John Cusack in a flashback scene as Wheaton's now-deceased and dearly missed brother. A genuine crowd-pleaser, this heartfelt movie led director Rob Reiner to even greater success with his next film, The Princess Bride. --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars I love this movie.......2008-01-29

I really love this film. Its a type of film that gets hold of you. Alough this movie is sad it is also very funny. I really enjoyed this film and would watch it over and over again. I would like to thank rob riner for making the film and wil wheaton for a world class performance. River Phoenix performance was the best but sadly cannot thank him coz he sadly died of a drug overdoes when he was just 23.He was only 15 when this movie was made. I am sure he would have been one of the best actors in the world and went on to make many great films if he had lived. Stupid Drugs. RIP River.

4 out of 5 stars Coming of age.......2007-11-03

Many times in my life I've felt on the verge of an adventure. Many times I haven't followed through, but when I have the world has opened up to a new understanding. That's what I think about when I think of this movie. A coming of age tale of stretching the view of the world and the lessons that are part of a growing understanding. Any person that has tried to stretch their wings and move out into an unknown opportunity or future can identify with the feelings such a choice encompasses. The moving story combined with a beautiful song are a hard combination to top.

5 out of 5 stars Sheer Brilliance.......2007-10-07

As a 34 year old man, i cannot help but look back on my childhood when and after watching this film. It really is superb and brings a lump to my throat at the end when you get to here what the BEST mates have done in there lives and where there going. It brings it all home to you. Buy this film and you will never regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Film, a must-watch.......2007-10-04

Stand By Me is one of the most memorable films of the 80s. It is emotional, exciting, quite funny and mildly scary (for children). River Phoenix and the other child actors are great in it and Kiefer Sutherland makes one of his best performances. The Storyline (made by Stephen King) is gripping, thrilling and a typical King novel, the film makes it more emotional and adds a bit of humour to it in small bits (credit to Rob Reiner). Although it is a 15, it is good for kids to watch as it shows them what being a kid was like in 1959 (when the film is set) and they will enjoy it. I don't know anyone who has seen this film who hasn't enjoyed it and I'm sure you will too if you haven't already seen it.

RIP River.

    5 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!!.......2008-01-04
