Classic, cheesy 80's horror.......2007-10-04
'A Nightmare on Elm Street' is one of the most memorable and influential horror series ever made and is still as watchable now as it was back in 1984 when it was released. Everyone has heard of the infamous Freddy Kruger, the demon who visits you in your dreams and has a million and one ways of killing you in your sleep. They are by no means serious horror films as most of the deaths are quite amusing, with Freddy's classic one-liners to add more humour to the scenes. The acting isn't great, but I don't think it is really supposed to be, being in the date/horror genre that was very popular in the 80's with other series such as Friday the 13th, Halloween and Hellraiser. The first film also features Johnny Depp's first appearance onto the big screen.
Each of the films are fairly similar in storyline, with a new group of teenagers being stalked in their dreams by Freddy and getting killed off one by one if they don't stay awake. The first three films are by far the best, with The Dream Warriors (part 3) taking the series in a different direction, being in a hosipital for people with sleeping problems, as opposed to the usual high-school settings. Films 4 and 5 (The Dream Master & The Dream Child) are pretty bad and are definitely the worst in the collection. In part 7 (Wes Craven's New Nightmare) the actors actually play themselves are stalked by Freddy in "real life", which is an original and brilliant idea and a perfect way to end the series. It's just a shame that the 2004 movie "Freddy vs Jason" isn't included in this collection, as that would have completed the boxset perfectly.
Whether you are a fan of these films or have never seen them before, it is well worth getting this DVD boxset as it is 80's horror at it's best. Also at under £10 for the lot, you would be stupid to miss this, even if you are only wanting to watch parts 1, 2, 3 and 7 (the best ones). This is an essential DVD boxset that is one of the best, and most watched, that I own.

A true 80's horror collection.......2007-09-01
I adore this collection as if it was air! ALthough I have found that they are not scary as you may think they are, but more creative and innovative, which I love about horror films. Here is my run down of the films:
NOES 1: A brilliant film that has some good moments that have one or two genuine moments that could make the odd person cringe. Nice to see Johnny Depp die in his first ever film role. A good film that can easily stand alone.
NOES 2 Freddy's revenge: A film that I suppose it could stand on its own as it has nothing to do with the rest of the series and does not work as well.
NOES 3 Dream Warriors: This is by far my favourite of the whole series!!! It completely revamps the series and opens a whole new world of possibilities. Some amazing deaths and...I justs love it! It is this film where we start learning about Freddy's past.
NOES 4 Dream Master: This film carries directly on from the previous film and again has plenty of innovative ideas, I love the whole idea of absorbing souls!
NOES 5 Dream Child: This was a dip in a series of amazing films. Again it carries on from the last film but the ideas start to wane. I don't really remember to much of this film, so I guess it is the most forgetable.
NOES Freddy's dead: Although this carry on directly, it is helpful to have known what has happened previously. However this steps it up once again, with some awesome deaths, I particularly enjoy the guy playing in the computer game.
The new nightmare: This is by far the scariest of the films based in real life rather than fiction and Freddy's look is given a complete revamp which is really cool.
Overall I love this set and recommend it to anybody and everybody, but it is a particularly nice introduction to the horror genre!
