Dead End proved to be a wise choice.......2008-02-28
Excellent film, i was gripped. Ray Wise is taking his family to his mother-in-laws for Christmas, as they fall asleep he starts to relax. After a while he himself starts to doze off, the car starts to move across the road, an oncoming vehicle is getting closer... they all suddenly wake up as he steers the car out of danger. They pull over. Everybodys ok but theres no sign of the other car. His wife wonders where they are and why they are not on the interstate. He explains he wanted to take the backroads as he has taken the interstate for 20years, he was bored. Staying on the road, they encounter a woman in white. A woman who whenever she appears, something happens, something nasty... Stuck on this road, this never-ending road, they carry on in desperate hope but things are not what they seem.
Brilliant film, would recommend it to anyone. Suspense, horror and a good blend of comedy make it one the best films i have seen this year.
OK - BUT 'B' CLASS THRILLER AND NOT THAT GOOD.......2007-12-09
If you are an average film buff that enjoys a few thrills, reasonable story and a bit of tension then Dead End delivers - just. It's clear from the outset this is a low budget movie and it shows in the acting and the plot attention to detail. The fim revolves around a family on a journey through a derted woodlands at night that never seems to end. They come across a stranded woman with a baby, that kicks off a series of ghostly and strange events leading to the family members being killed. This is where the film immediately falls down as the events just seem ridiculous and the reaction to the family memeber when they find the mutitliated body of a brother/son, is well.... a joke. the acting of grief is poor and unrealsitic including 5 minutes later acting quite normally - you get the drift.
The stroy has a groanful ending - "oH was that it?" so you know what to expect. all in all it does keep you hooked through intrigue, but it it not a blockbuster horror/thriller and will easily be forgotten about. worth watching but don't expect too much.
Awesome.......2007-11-10
This is the only film I have seen yet, that has had me in stitches whilst maintaining a sense of fear. It must be so hard to try and capture both those emotions in a film, but this film nailed it.
The script is original, ok the acting isn't perfect but still good enough. It's the way that the film kept my attention all the way through that made me give it 5 stars.
Like everything in life everybody has different ideas of what's good or bad, but I can honestly say that this is the funniest thriller/horror I have seen to date.
A LOT BETTER THAN I EXPECTED IT TO BE.......2007-11-01
Traveling on Christmas Eve, the Harrington family, father Frank, (Ray Wise) mother Laura, (Lin Shaye) son Richard, (Mick Cain) and daughter Marion, (Alexandra Holden) and her boyfriend Brad Miller, (Billy Asher) stop by to help out a hitchhiker, (Amber Smith) who makes them stop off along the way. When they get out to look around, the notice others missing from the car. Trying to find a way of dealing with the strange disappearances and the different encounters they have along the way, the family tries to stay alive on the deserted highway.
The Good News: This was actually a pretty good movie, actually. It effectively managed to get into the feeling of isolation and despair through a smartly interwoven series of events that was pretty cleverly done. The film does an incredible job of setting up a dream-like atmosphere where anything can happen in any situation. The amount that is hurled in here would actually make a person break down. It's actually got a series of events that are actually creepy and nicely imagined. I wouldn't want to give them away, as they are far to creative and need to be seen, but they conjure up an effectively creepy atmosphere. The fact that there is some nicely done kills in here results in some nice gore as well. There's a couple of gunshots, a person with his lower lip bitten off, a series of bodies run over by a car, and a couple other nasty bites, which are spliced in with some off-screen stuff that mixed together into a good collection of on-screen gore and off-screen gore. There was also quite a few times that it delivered a nicely-timed joke that actually gets a laugh. Not expected and more than welcome.
The Bad News: There was really only one thing that really bugged me: the twist ending. It could be seen coming from a mile away, the set-up isn't that clever, and it destroys the excellent momentum that had been set-up before hand. It's also been used quite often and just comes off as "another one like that" kind of ending. It's really the only thing that I had much of a problem with.
The Final Verdict: Give it a better ending and this bumps up quite a bit. That was really the only thing that didn't sit well with me. This is still a nice one to check out, and isn't for a select group especially.
A great horror/thriller I thought!.......2007-09-19
I'm really into my horror and thriller films and this is by far one of the ones I enjoyed the most. It was an unusual concept for a film being set on a road in a car but it works really well. There are parts which make you just cringe.
So if your after a decent horror film then I certainly recommend this one.
