Brilliant.......2008-01-24
Loved this sequel, once I started watching, I couldn't stop. The characters are origional and really likeable, there is a lot of suspence and the death scenes are pretty good, too. Also this is the movie where Jason dones his famous hockey mask.
There's not much to say about the plot as it's almost identical to parts 1 and 2, although a small gang of bikers follow the teens to camp (but, of course, Jason is around so they don't last long...)
I thought that the chase scene at the end between Jason and The Last Girl was suspencefull and very well done.
Great movie, especially considering it is a sequel. Highly reccomended.
Jason's Big Rip Off.......2008-01-07
Let's be honest. No one with a modicum of common sense would approach a movie like this and expect it be any good, in the strictest sense of the word. There are, however, at least two things which one expects to see in a cheesy slasher flick. The first is some serious gore, the second is boobies. Unlike most of the films in the Friday 13th series, this pathetic entry fails to deliver the goods on both counts.
The plot is hilarious. It seems that, in spite of the savage murders that occurred at Camp Crystal Lake both last year and the year before (as well as the murders fifteen years earlier), yet another group of unsuspecting and apparently mindless teenagers go to the camp for a bit of fun and frivolity. In a huge twist, Jason returns from the dead - again - and starts killing them.
As always, the first seven minutes of the film is just a replay of the last seven minutes of Part 2. One can't help but think that they were trying desperately to bump up the lousy running time, and they still couldn't make it to 90 minutes. If you think that's a rip off, keep watching.
The only interesting thing about this film is that this is where Jason pioneered the iconic "killer in a hockey mask" look, having opted for a hessian sack over his head in the second instalment of the series. This is mildly diverting for about 30 seconds but is a long way from saving this turkey.
The murders are all pretty tame here compared to the first two movies. Most of the violence happens off screen as the scenes all cut away just as the blade (or weapon of choice) is about to hit. We get to see the bodies afterwards, but there's nothing even remotely shocking about most of the shots here. The one exception is a body sliced almost in half (from the groin up), delicately balanced on a roof support beam. Personally, I couldn't help thinking what a lot of effort it must have been for Jason to lift the body up there and balance it just right, but by this point I was seriously bored.
The real tragedy of this schlock-fest is that, despite the presence of some fairly hot (in an 80s way) teenage girls, none of them get their baps out. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is a flagrant violation of horror movie etiquette not to mention the fact that we had all come to expect some boob from this series as if by right! Ultimately, for me, this proved to be the last straw.
This is a movie for die hard Jason fans only as it is easily the weakest in the series. If you've seen any of the Friday 13th, you'll know just how great a compliment that is.
The only DVD extra is a trailer. The picture of sound are fine given the age of the film but nothing to write home about. With a movie this poor, who really cares anyway?
PART 3 AN 8 R THE BEST.......2007-01-05

One Of The Worst Slasher Movies Ever!.......2006-09-08
OK, so the Friday the 13th franchise has never been the most respected of movies, but there's no denying that parts 1, 4, 6 and 10 are very enjoyable in their own ways. Even part 2, which was heavily edited by the MPAA after the controversy surrounding the original, was entertaining. But what on Earth happened here? The 3-D boom of the early 80's ruined a lot of series (Amityville, Jaws), and the fact that this movie is released flat on DVD without these effects makes all the objects that point out at the camera throughout the movie very annoying. Also, the acting is the worst of the series (and that's saying something!).
Unfortunately, this film could have ended in an intense way, as the heroine was originally supposed to be decapitated at the end of the movie, but the actress objected so this was removed for an almost shot-for-shot remake of the original's climax. In fact, the only reason to see this movie is for the moment when jason first dons the now imfamous hockey mask. Otherwise, with or without the 3-D effetcs, this is easily the worst of the series (yes, even worse than parts 5 and 7, if that's possible!).
If only Paramount would release the whole series uncut, as each of the sequels were filmed with very gory scenes that were trimmed prior to their release. Maybe if everyone bombarded Paramount with requests for this they may one day be released. otherwise, stay clear of this mess.
JASON VOORHEES IS BACK!!!.......2006-05-22
A new group of friends, Chris, (Dana Kimmell) her boyfriend Rick, (Paul Kratka) Vera, (Catherine Parks) Chuck, (David Katims) Chili, (Rachel Howard) and Shelly, (Larry Zerner) goes to Crystal Lake for a good old weekend of sex and relation. When two of them leave the lake to go buy supplies, they run afoul of a local biker gang, Ali, (Nick Savage) Loco, (Kevin O'Brien) and Fox, (Gloria Charles). When they accidentally destroy the leader's bike, and they vow payback on the kids and follow them to the lake. With Chris and Rick away enjoying a talk in the woods, the others begin to fall to Jason. When they return to the camp and find everyone gone, they suspect foul play, but Jason launches an all-out assault on them.
The Good News: Finally, a really gory horror film from the early 80's. No way this should've been as gory as it is, and I really want to thank Miner for delivering the bloody goods. Impaling people on staffs, knifes, and many other sharp objects is the essential part of a 'Friday' film, but there are two of my all-time favorites in this film. The spear gun in the eye is a simply fantastic kill, as the effect is not cheesy, it looks very realistic, and is pretty chilling. The other one that comes to mind is the infamous handstand kill. I won't describe it here, as you really need to see it to understand how brilliant it is. In actuality, all the killings are great to a degree, as the 3-D element forced the creators to make every death unique and special. Jason never kills two people the same way. That is an ingenious, something the other films never quite got the idea to use. This is also the second movie to have a good idea what suspense is, setting up a scare and delivering, which only the original can claim to have as well. This is intensely suspenseful, as the camera or the music set up a shot and it just makes a uniquely suspenseful entry. It isn't as nerve jangling as the first one, but is the only other entry to be suspenseful. I can also say that the music in the film is really good too. It more than capably accompanies the scene it plays in, helping to add scares or to make the action more frantic. The theme is still here for fans, but the music really helps the film.
The Bad News: The beginning was almost unbearably annoying. Concentrating on these two people who are completely unworthy of being focused upon should not be an opening to a film. The kills were cool, but it took way too long to do them in. that brings up another important quality in the film; Miner's timing is way off. He lets too many scenes go on for too long when they should've been cut up. Yeah, the time must've been a factor, but that still was no excuse for letting parts like the beginning and Fox's exploration of the barn are simply scenes that should've been cut down due to their just plain boring-ness. They simply don't provide the scares that would've justified their existence in the movie that they should've had. Chris' flashback to Jason, which was an important part of the movie, was handled very weirdly. Instead of the usual flashback where the character narrates over the action that is happening on screen, we see a silhouette of her face over the action, completely blurring the scene. Several of the gags in the film were just plain stupid. The yo-yo, the flying eyeball and the popcorn gags come to mind especially, being simply unnecessary effects that did little to help the film, coming across as cheesy, even for the time.
The Final Verdict: The negative reviews about this film are all wrong; this is a great entry in Jason's saga that really got overlooked due to it's cheesy 3-D gimmick. It is highly recommended to all 'Friday' fans, those looking for a little cheese in unusual places, all to 3-D fans, as the effects aren't all that bad.
