very disapointed.......2008-03-02
Being a Lucy liu fan I hoped to realy enjoy this film.
Why did she make such poorly writen film?
Why did they spoil such a good premis for a film?
what is so special about the crossbow bolts that they kill vampires?
The confusing flash backs make it difficult to follow Tarantino it aint.
You will need three or four pints to see this film
The very last scene is so predictable. This film makes Chalies Angels BAFTA material.
Quite good for a modern vampire story.......2008-02-10
Having seen a lot of vampire films, I'm usually unimpressed by modern versions but this one is suprisingly good.
The story centers around a reporter out to hunt down and kill the vampires who turned her - how she became a vampire and why she wants revenge and death instead of imortality becomes apparent as the film progresses.
With plenty of action, blood and some sex this is an engaging film. Lucy Liu is a strong presence in the lead role.
The only downside is that some of the story is told in flashbacks and its not always immediately obvious which scenes are the present and which are the past. Until it becomes clear, the story is occasionally a bit confusing.
This film is definately worth seeing at least once. Fans of vampire films will probably enjoy it but as with any film, if you're not sure, rent it first!
Take the mother inlaw out instead!.......2008-02-03
I'm sorry to be so negative about this film, but I was hoping that the DVD cover and the review
would offer a pretty good film. The best part of the film occurs in the first 10-15 minutes. After this
the film goes from good to bad. I personal believe the directors forgot that the film was about horror,
action and blood vampires. The vampires hardly appear and when they do, it is more like a drama film
with small talk and very little action, a lot of small talk.. I believe this film should go direct to TV
and bypass DVD. Nothing special and a lot about nothing...Not worth viewing..
Just to proof my point, the front cover on Amazon shows 4 men hanging and a vampire in the middle with eyes glowing.
The truth is no vampires have glowing eyes, which would have been cool, This is a poor vampire film and the
cover is the only good thing about the film..

EXCELLENT UNDER -THE -RADAR HORROR........2007-12-04
Lucy Liu is given a rare starring role in this overlong but interesting vampire movie in which she plays Sadie a reporter turned into a vampire by a cult of decadent sleazy bloodsuckers.
Sickened by her new addiction to blood Liu seeks out and kills the swines with her trusty crossbow. Micheal Chiklis plays a grieving cop who hinders then aids her in her quest. The best Vampires are played by James D'arcy as as the suave leader and Carla Gugino as the seductive Eve.
The plot is somewhat like Kill Bill meets Blade. Initially the the director jars the audience with a fragmented flashback structure at the beginning that establishes Sadie's normal life and the events leading up to her "turning". With some streamlined dialogue and more strict editing this could have been a perfect B-movie horror. As it is it's very good but sags during the middle pace-wise. However this is compensated by the unusually strong atmosphere by todays standards, high claret content and nudity laced with genuine sensuality. Liu in particular cowboys up with a brazen, raw performance that washes away memories of cold fish Ling on the dire Ally McBeal.
Fans of the vampire genre will want to check this out and will be rewarded with a strange lttle gem that nobody seems to have seen but me. If you're a Lucy Liu fan then you really have no excuse not to buy this item. Grrrr!
if you like your horror a little less quirky then proceed with caution.
