Ok, sorry for the bad title but it just popped into my head ok?!

Anyway, I loved this film, so much so I watched it twice in a row the first time. I think its a very clever take on some great old slasher movies but to get the real benefit you need to watch it two or three times to pick up certain bits of dialogue you may have missed the first time round for example (SPOILER ALERT) in the opening sequence the parents of Drew Barrymore's character, Casey, come home to find their house looking a wee bit worse for wear. Casey's dad on venturing further into the house realises his daughter is missing & her boyfriend has er spilled his guts onto the patio (although you don't actually see him see this is you get what I mean?!) he then turns to his wife & says 'take the car, drive down to the McKenzies' which mimics a line from, in my opinion, a cracking horror film, Halloween when Jamie Lee Curtis Character tells the kids to 'run down to the Mckenzies' and save themselves from Mr Michael Myers. Its little things like this that make Scream a must for horror fans, Wes Craven's tribute to some truly great slasher movies.

I would say don't watch this film if you are expecting to see a gut-wrenchingly scary film, but even though its not exactly what you would call scary it is still totally worth seeing. Scream in some ways is the ultimate film, having some gore/horror, some good laughs and a small romantic plot line.

There really isnt much horror in this film, just some young people getting slashed by a bumbling idiot.

4 out of 5 stars Gripping horror film.......2006-10-07

Despite its criticisms I believe that Scream was a really enjoyable horror film, conforming brilliantly to the genre and although the acting may be questionable it's an ironic fun film.

Neve Campbell (Love child, wild things) stars as the innocent vulnerable teenager Sidney who is forever traumatised by her mother's death and always under careful watch by her arrogant friends.

It's no way near brilliant acting by any of the stars however I thought Neve Campbell in her leading role was magnificent. She was scared, emotional but courageous in all of her actions.

The characters are mainly stereotypical teenagers, all into sex, relationships, drinking and mischief. Having stereotypes allows younger audiences to appreciate the characters more, with their conventional predictable antics. However it remains interesting through a carefully constructed plot.

The story is very gripping and even though not jumping behind the sofa scary it certainly gets your heart beating. Audiences are always anticipating the killer's moves and therefore are gripped right from the beginning.

Through the use of phone conversations audiences are gripped into a real frenzy of excitement and shiver as they wonder where the masked killer is and why he asks the questions.

The character of the killer isn't as intimidating as I thought he would be, he seems to get confused in his own actions more than anything and therefore audiences may feel a slight disgust towards the film as a whole. Nevertheless it is still gripping when he intimidates people with his knife and threatening dialogue and entices the audiences. The use of his questions allows him to be a dominant force in the film.

There are many references to other horror movies in this film and therefore present a careful knowledge of modern and early horror. There are many digs at the horror genre but also close references to other real life situations such as politics in the news.

Scream Trilogy [1997] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

    Amazon.co.uk Review

What should have been an explosive finale to the trilogy in Scream 3 ends up becoming something of a damp squib, with little of the suspense that made the first two so memorable. Kevin Williamson, creator of the original Scream, claimed he always saw the series as a trilogy, so it's a pity that he couldn't have had more of a hand in the last of the series, settling for a producer credit while the screenplay is penned by Ehren Kruger (ironic in itself, given director Wes Craven's most famous creation). When a crucial player in the first two movies is killed in the now obligatory pre-credit murder sequence, the attention switches to the set of Stab 3, the third in the fictional film series based on the original Woodsboro murders of the first Scream movie. Sydney Prescott, who has spent the last few years targeted by the Ghost-faced killer, is drawn out of hiding in the Californian hills to face the killer one last time. Along the way she is re-united with old friends, (both living and dead) and discovers more about her family history than she ever wanted to know.

Most of the players look a little bored with the whole thing now and Craven just doesn't inject any pace into the proceedings, happy, it seems to produce virtually carbon copy set pieces from the previous instalments. The film sags incredibly in the second act and when a convenient "pre-recorded" message from the late Randy Meeks turns up, it's not so much evidence of that character's forethought, more of the scriptwriter's laziness. It has its moments though: Jenny McCarthy hiding from the killer in a wardrobe room filled with Ghostface costumes, a great cameo from Carrie Fisher and the constant bitching between Cox and the wonderful Parker Posey, who plays Gail Weathers in the fictional Stab 3. Ultimately, though, as the closing chapter in a great horror series, Scream 3 fails to live up to its predecessors. --Jonathan Weir

5 out of 5 stars Yet another fab sequal!.......2007-12-13

It is hardly surprising that this was brilliant saying the first two were aswell. Sequals often get more and more worse in my opinion, however this was very much alike to the first two.
A must see to any scream fans!

4 out of 5 stars A GREAT ENDING TO THE SERIES.......2007-11-03

Following a brutal murder, Gale Weathers, (Courteney Cox) is contacted by Det. Mark Kincaid, (Patrick Dempsey) as she has knowledge of the murders, and determines that Roman Bridger, (Scott Foley) new horror movie could be a target. Meeting up with Dewey Riley, (David Arquette) again on-set, she is turned away until the rest of the cast, Jennifer Jolie, (Parker Posey) Angelina Tyler, (Emily Mortimer) Tyson Fox, (Deon Richmond) Sarah Darling, (Jenny McCarthy) and Tom Prinze, (Matt Keeslar) begin dying in the order they do in the script. Using it as a chance to reconnect, they end up bringing up Sidney Prescott, (Neve Campbell) connection to the killings. When she becomes a target from the killer, the three friends and remaining cast members manage to find that her mother had a connection to what is going on, and try to stay out of the way of the killer.

The Good News: Frankly, this one isn't as bad as some think it is. The fact that, for once, the stalking scenes are suspenseful is one of the film's greatest strengths. The opening is just as good as the others, which gets really going early on with the phone-call, and from there it goes into the great bedroom search that is really suspenseful. This one also has some suspense from the calls, which here are finally done right. The twist with the different voices rather than the one is a great one, since it adds to whether or not the voice is real or the killer's. there's also nothing wrong with any of the stalking scenes in here. There's a fantastic scene inside the studio where the killer chases one of the actors through the different backstage areas, and with several great creative ideas brought in, this one scene leaves a great impression. The assault on the house is fantastic, features a couple great scenes and ends with a bang. The best scenes, though, come from all the stalking and chasing down at the end. From the discoveries in the basement to the chase behind the glass mirrors in the secret passageways and much more, these scenes are pure joy to watch and really get entertaining. This one has plenty of action to it as well, including a frenetic chase through rush-hour traffic, the fantastic house assault and the big chase through the studio are all fun and really keep the film going. These, plus the film's stalking give the film a fantastic pace to it. The fact that this one also decides to really fill in a couple of holes in the story. This one really fills in the holes nicely, and there's some fun to be had from the really good explanations, which make sense and makes this really feel like a well-rounded trilogy. These here are what the film does right.

The Bad News: This one here doesn't have a whole lot of flaws. The biggest one is that there's a whole lot of padded time in the film. This one, unlike the others, is way too long and seems stretched out. The beginning hallucinations don't do much, as there's no reason why these are there other than to give false scares and stretch out the time. Even the ending is stretched, which is just far too long and drawn-out. The explanations just take forever and at several points gets too over-explained, becoming a torturous monologue to something that was perfectly understood minutes earlier. This one also really lacks in the slashing department. The kills are hardly unique, with only two or three not done in a singular fashion, and those don't have gore to them at all. These small flaws are what keep the film down.

The Final Verdict: With a lot to really like about it and only a few mild flaws, this is a certainly fun entry in the series. Really recommended for those who love the teeny-slashers at the time or are huge fans of the series, who will find a lot to like about this one, while those who aren't big fans of the two will really be left cold with this one.

3 out of 5 stars It makes you squeal in delight rather than scream in fright.......2006-02-13

Ok, the first 'Scream' is excellent. No doubt. Its first sequel was a dull film, reiterating the same tricks, which is boring.

However, 'Scream 3' is great, owing to its hilarious script. Some of the lines are melodramatic, and the production team made a wise decision in employing Parker Posey to read them! She is the one to whom you warm the most, because of her "ditsiness". It is genuinely AWFUL when her character is killed off.

Neve Campbell is back, along with her colleagues from the previous two films, David Arquette and Courtney Cox-Arquette, all of whom pulling off their characters at the same high standard. Sydney is still uptight. Dewey is still charming. Gail Weathers is still annoying.

The film moves along at a steady pace and does not let your attention drop, mainly owing to, as I have said, the comic element to the film, which has not been so present in its predecessors. Also, it toys with the 'film within a film' scenario, which works well since the trilogy deals with serial killers imitating murderers in film.

So why have I given this only 3 stars? It's because some moments of the film had potential to go further (I mean they could have been much better), and what there was of these scenes was therefore mildly disappointing. Linked to this, some of the acting is rather static (not by the leading actors, of course).

However the twist is a real twist and the film nicely "wraps up" the story.

It's a good film so long as you don't take it seriously.

    5 out of 5 stars A one LOUD SCREAM!.......2005-08-15

Its is great. Don't listen to these people they are soooooooooooooowrong. Its is great, you have to watch it.

3 out of 5 stars You are the weakest link, good-bye!.......2005-07-30

Well the first was a classic, the second was ok more of the same but the originality had gone, then we have this. It's ok but the trilogy promised so much more. The plot revelations at the end just don't feel right some how, and the story is wearing thin now. The killer decides to start killing off the cast of Stab 2 a film based on the 2nd film to bring Sidney out of hiding. This is still better than most low budget stuff but it is not as good as the 2 previous films. The DVD does have slightly more extras than the previous two, but nothing major. A blooper reel, behind the scenes montage of all 3 films, deleted scenes and an alternative ending which looks exactly the same as the real ending? Overall a disappointing end to a great set of horror films!

So make your minds up, if you want to buy a comical slasher then this is for you, if you want a horror film then i would have to say dont buy it.

    Amazon.co.uk Review

With the smash hit Scream, novice screenwriter Kevin Williamson and veteran horror director Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street) revived the mouldering corpse of the teen horror picture, both creatively and commercially, by playfully acknowledging the exhausted clichés and then turning them inside out. Scream is a postmodern slasher movie, a horror film that cleverly deconstructs horror films, then reassembles the dead tissue, and (like Frankenstein's monster) creates new life. When a serial killer starts hacking up their fellow teens, the media-savvy youngsters of Scream realise that the smartest way of sticking around for the sequel is to avoid the terminal behaviours that inevitably doom supporting players in the movies. They've seen all the movies, and the rules of the genre are like second nature to them. One of the scariest and funniest setups features a kid watching John Carpenter's seminal Halloween on video. As Jamie Lee Curtis is shadowed by Michael Meyers and the kid on the couch yells at her to turn around, Craven reverses his camera and we see that the kid should be taking his own advice. The fresh-faced young cast (including Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette) is fun to watch, and their tart dialogue is sprinkled with enough archly self-conscious pop-culture references to make Quentin Tarantino blush. --Jim Emerson

5 out of 5 stars I scream, you scream, we all scream!.......2007-06-18

All in all Scream is a damn fun film, you'll hate the characters, they're just annoying but then thats what makes watching them meet untimely ends so much easier. Especially the bit with the cat flap..............

5 out of 5 stars Not scary, scary, but great!.......2006-12-25

I saw this last year and loved it! It is rather different to a lot of other horror movies. I loved the plot/storyline, characters and a lot of the characters were fairly young making it even better.
Any horror fan should see this!

4 out of 5 stars Not exactly scary...but with Scream it doesn't matter.......2006-11-03

I would say don't watch this film if you are expecting to see a gut-wrenchingly scary film, but even though its not exactly what you would call scary it is still totally worth seeing. Scream in some ways is the ultimate film, having some gore/horror, some good laughs and a small romantic plot line.

2 out of 5 stars Not much horror, more sub standard slasher comedy.......2006-11-01

Wes craven wes craven, what road will you go down next. I am extremely honest when i state that this film is basically a comedy slasher, yes the openening is gory perhaps scary (hmm) etc but it just cant be taken seriosly and if were all honest, it doesnt want to be taken seriosly, which isnt a criticism. The killer for example is far from our standard smart killer, he stumbles around like a bumbling idiot, crashing into things, which when you see who the killer is isnt too suprising.
