This is probably my favourite Lynch dvd. If you like the man already...buy this now. It is probably best reserved for his bigger fans..who have already seen his other films.
I thought it would just be a nice wee addition to my Lynch collection..but i totally fell in love with it.
When a friend stays at your house, throw on The Alphabet (short film 2) while they writhe around in hungover agony!
Hours of fun.. and things will never be the same thereafter.

Fascinating DVD of Lynch obscurities.......2007-01-29
I felt I had to contribute this review as the only other review on Amazon is from someone who thought there was only one five minute movie included!!
It is included - along with 5 other short films, the longest of which is 50 minutes. The Grandmother is the longest film & is reminiscent of Eraserhead (it was the film he made pior to Eraserhead)in its feel. Then we have two short partly animated films from Lynch's student days,two versions of a video film experiment called The Amputee which is excruitiating and hilarious by turns, a curious "cowboy art" film from the early nineties which isn't entirely successful but has some lovely cinematography and finally a one minute movie made with an original lumiere camera - one of the first movie cameras ever made. This- despite its tiny duration - is fabulous. Overall a wonderful set, very nicely packaged and highly recommended.

I enjoyed watching this short film and its an intresting piece of art BUT I really don't think it should have been made into a single DVD as it goes on for less than 5mins and to be honest the 5mins is long enough.

Different For ... Just About Everything.......2002-02-17
What a brave and unusual romantic comedy. Thank God the BBC is still open-minded enough for such projects, which are not only important, but ultimately wonderfully entertaining.
At the core of the boy-meets-girl, who used to be one of his mates at school, now transsexual, love story is Steven Mackintosh, who portrays Karl-now-Kim with such dignity and style that this film never feels sticky or cumbersome, as one might fear going into it.
Rupert Graves plays the bad-boy "Prentice" with such charm that one thoroughly understands why Kim allows her new-found, quiet life to be turned upside down. He shows Kim that finding the right gender doesn't necessarily make you a whole person...That comes from conviction and caring. It requires passion - something he's full of and is able to rekindle in his old schoolmate. And who knows...maybe she'll get him to change his socks daily!
Thoroughly charming!
Different for girls but good for boys!.......2000-12-26
I was quietly surprised by this film. The story revolves around two ex-school friends only one has now had a sex-change. Karl tries to come to terms with this and his own sexuality as he becomes drawn to Kim and away from his girlfriend. The relationship progresses through various stages as we follow their lives. The only disappointment from my point of view was the arrest scenes as I think they were a bit over the top. Apart from that, this is a thoroughly enjoyable film.

Basic plot.A group of teens are killed by these weird freaks in strange costumes who chase the only remaining teen all over the place until she and her friends fight back. Warning this is not a monster movie or a gorefest, if you are looking for that go elsewhere. This is more like a thriller with monsters in it. The creatures who look a bit pantomine like when in the light (they wear biker gear, indian headdresses, samurai garments etc) all have a theme to them and are named as such (hangman has a noose that kind of thing.Overall suprisingly good to watch but annoying (you never find the monsters origin out), very much like the pierce brosnan film nomad.Lots of chase scenes and people not helping the teen in distress.If thats your cup of tea check it out.
