I bought the canon A570 as an update from the sony w70. WOW! Its a lot better than any other camera i've ever had! (canon are one of the best)!
There is quite a lot on the powershot range too. But the main thing about this smart little camera is the image quality which is high! You will capture those moments of high quality photographs.

Great Value.......2007-11-03
Bought this to replace an old Powershot A70. Much lighter and quite a bit smaller (uses only 2 AA cells instead of 4), with very good image quality. Fits nicely in the hand (I like the grip on this camera). Noise levels at ISO 100 are very good, although as expected noise gets quite noticeable at ISO 400 and above if looking at full magnification on a monitor, but overall excellent for the price. Lots of manual control if you need it. Goes snugly in a Lowepro Apex 20AW belt pouch (especially if the orange divider in the pouch is removed).
A disappointment.......2007-10-18
Having read the reviews here and elsewhere I can only think I was unlucky with my A570IS, which I have now returned as faulty. I bought it to replace a four or five year old 2MP Nikon compact. I tried it in all resolutions, focus and exposure modes and found that the images were consistently very 'soft' focus to the point of being blurred. I took comparison shots with the Nikon which were far clearer even though the file sizes were only a quarter of those from the Canon at high resolution. I'm an experienced photographer, but by no means infallible, so I phoned Canon Support to see if I was doing something stupid but they quickly decided the camera sensor was probably at fault. I guess this shouldn't put you off unless there are other similar reports - just my luck to get a bad one!
My First Digital Camera and It's Great!.......2007-10-02
Having finally decided that digital cameras aren't just some passing fad (okay, so maybe it had more to do with other things being a higher priority), I recently bought my first digital camera. There were several things I knew I wanted, and this camera fit the bill. I'm really glad too, because I love it.
I was looking for a camera that took AA batteries and had a viewfinder. Most everything else was secondary. This camera had both of those as well as 4x optical zoom, 7.1 mega pixels, and image stabilizer. As soon as I knew about that feature, I had to have it. I am notorious for taking slightly shaky pictures. This feature automatically adjusts for some shakiness. And it has done a great job.
Basically, I just wanted to camera that I could use to snap pictures on vacations or while out with friends. I didn't need anything fancy. And this camera does a wonderful job of capturing those moments. The pictures are mostly clear, and I'm willing to take the blame for the bad ones. The camera could be a little smaller, but there seems to be a trade off - bigger camera if you want AA batteries. It's super easy to download all or just the pictures you want onto your computer as well.
Considering I probably won't upgrade my camera for quite a few years, I wanted to make a wise choice. And it looks like I have. I'm quite pleased with this purchase.
Fantastic little camera.......2007-09-07

Onto the camera.....I decided to upgrade my Canon Powershot A540 to this one basically because of the Image Stabilation feature, the new DIGIC III processor and the face detection feature. I have to say it the upgrade was well worth it.
If you are looking for a camera just to point and shoot then this is ideal for you BUT it has so much more to offer.
The extras on this camera are too numerous to mention here but are covered in dozens of on-line reviews so simply my advice would be to read the manual cover to cover and make sure you discover all the secrets that lie within.
I already own a digital SLR but this little camera is small and robust enough to sling in your jacket pocket so you can have it with you at all times to capture those once in a lifetime moments.
Two points to mention are batteries and the SD card. It takes two AA batteries (supplied) but they wont last long and I wholly recommend you buy some high power rechargeables (at least 2700mAh) and carry a spare set with you. It is a power hungry little beastie but you should get 250-300 shots out of a fully charged set.
Also the supplied SD memory card is way way too small for any reasonable number of pictures at full resolution (you can only take 5 on the 16mb card provided) so make sure you buy at least a 1GB card as well.
However, don't let these little niggles put you off what is a fantastic little camera.

Ordered this item on a Friday lunchtime with some other bits and selected 'Super Saver Delivery'. Received it by 9am the next day! Amazing service from Amazon.
The product itself is a great fit for the A570IS, fitting the camera snugly as you would expect and therefore provided a good standard of protection. There is space on the inside of the lid for memory cards and enough room in the front pocket for AA batteries. What more could you want?
Compared this in a shop to a LowePro Apex alternative and found it a better fit and only a couple of quid more for the official item. Well worth the extra outlay.
Nice Snug fit Bag.......2008-01-04
I bought this bag because it was small like the powershot camera I bought recently. I wanted something small which would protect my camera but not increase the weight or size I was carrying around with me. This bag is just right for the powershot range - being only larger than the camera itself so that you have protection but not have a large bag to carry - thus keeping the compact size of the camera. I was impressed with the little pockets which can hold memory cards and more importantly batteries.
Well worth the money if you value your canon powershot.
Great for the A710 IS.......2007-04-24
A great price for an original Canon case (especially if purchased with supersaver delivery). It fits my A710 IS, a spare SD card but a bit of a squeeze to fit 2 AA batteries in the front pouch; hence 4 stars. Otherwise a well made compact case.
A snug fit!.......2007-01-26
This case is ideal to protect your A700 in. There's just enough room to keep spare memory cards and the front pocket can stash four AA batteries. The case seems to be well finished and the overall quality is very good.
Do not buy for the A640 or A630.......2006-11-18
The case is too small for the A640 and A630. For these cameras you need the Canon DCC-300 case.

Built to rust.......2008-01-04
I bought this camera based on very good reviews in all of the main UK photography mags. It may well have great features and take good shots, but I never got as far as trying it out unfortunately.
I was taken aback as soon as I took it out of the box, blown away by the very poor build quality of the plastic casing. The ring around the lens rattled, and as for the battery lid, it was so cheap and flimsy, I would predict it will break off in a very short time, rendering the camera useless. Whatever happened to Canon's legendary build quality?
Huge letdown.......2007-12-01
Maybe it is a good camera but am returning mine for a refund. On opening the sealed box the camera body has several scratches on it which is not good enough for a brand new camera.
Canon quality control doesn't look like it's up to much.

I selected this camera after loosing my lovely Fuji E550 on an Easyjet flight (if we are reviewing airlines EJ gets 0/10 for their lost and found). As it's a fairly new model I bought it without seeing many reviews but was confident as it seems to be a blend of Canon's A550 and A710 and both of these cameras have had good reviews. There are lots of really good compacts around the £150 mark and so one of the key factors in deciding on the A570 was the fact that it is one of the few digital compact cameras that has an optical view finder as well as the 2.5" LCD display. This is a life saver on those bright sunny days when it is impossible to frame the shot with the LCD. I have taken a range of indoor and outdoor shots and have been very pleased with the colours and sharpness.
The two new features of this camera that I have never used before are: 1. Automatic face recognition which makes sure you get the people in focus and not the background. 2. Image stabiliser, which helps to minimise the fuzzy photos. Both of these features seem to work really well.
Auto mode will allow anyone to get good results and the range of manual options will keep the keen amateurs happy for hours. The software that comes with the camera is Canon's standard ware which has been honed over the years. Of particular note is the image stitching capability which can be great if you want a picture of a wide vista but wide angle won't get it all in. When you select stitching mode on the camera it changes the display to assist you in framing the sequence of shots correctly. The easy to use stitching software then joins the sequence together to make one (almost) seamless shot.
From my first experiences with this camera I would say that Canon have produced a real stunner.
