Great camera.......2008-01-01

After visiting many websites and looking at reviews I decided to go with the A650. OK I didn't need the 12MP but as a buddy photographer I liked the fact that I could point and shoot or if I was feeling creative I could switch to fully manual, just like the digial SLRs but without the bulk (and expense).

I'm really pleased with the shots that I've taken so far and the performance of the camera is great - quick start up, low shutter lag, etc. I really like the fact that I can move the screen to different angles and the video playback is good.

My only concern is the build - it does feel a bit plastic however very robust.

I really do recommend for anyone that is looking for something a little more than a point and shoot.

The Crumpler Crisp-e 950 is a good camera bag

Could have been great........2007-10-04

The image quality and functionality of this camera were great on first impressions. True it is plasticy but I saw it as an alternative to the G9 but with fold out screen and AA batteries (but no raw).

However, when taking pics in bright light with the screen folded out the purple ghosting mentioned by a previous reviewer appeared. A quick web search (Canon forums) revealed that this is known problem, so back it went to Amazon.

I dare say that Canon will fix this, but I can't recommend this camera as the build quality is poor.

Gorgeous (little) camera.......2007-10-02

I am very happy with this camera. The image quality is good at low ISO. The lens, features, and LCD are all good. I chose this instead of the Canon Powershot G9 partially because this was £80 cheaper with most of the same features. The main features this camera is missing are RAW and auto-bracketing, things I can live without. The camera is I admit a bit plasticky, not as solid as my Canon IXUS 850 IS, but if treated carefully this shouldnt be a problem!

From Pentax A30 to Canon A650 IS.......2007-09-25

This is a super camera for beginners and experts, everything comes together in one package. Optical viewfinder or swing out LCD display, great for sunny days, no reflection to worry about. Buy an SDHC 4GB card and you have a video camera as well. Need extra lenses, you can have them. This camera is not light weight but it is compact. Cons. The main handbook is on the CD, this cuts down the cost of the camera as it is not printed, so you need a computer to explore its potential. Try it, then buy it.

Serious Problems With This Camera.......2007-09-24

I'm now on my 3rd A650 and all seem to have a problem with the sensor. In many of my photos there is an obvious purple/pink band right in the middle of the photo. My current one is going back for a refund and I will only buy another when I'm certain Canon have fixed the problem.

I bought this camera the other day. I had an old Kodak digital camera from years ago with about 3mp's and I wanted to upgrade when my Kodak conked out. I spoke to people in several shops and looked at many internet reveiws before I bought this camera and I established that I would buy a Canon of some kind. I am so impressed. I wanted something compact but bigger than a credit card (I like to be able to hold the camera), and also something with which I could experiment with and have some kind of control over the image. The photo's are great when you are just snapping at family events and also when you feel like getting a bit more creative. I love it and I can't wait to take more photo's and spend more time playing with all the settings.

I bought this camera to take on a trip to Egypt as it had all of the bits and bobs I required in a digital camera.I wanted easy,fast, not too big to cart around with me and good quality pics, this camera delivers all of that and more.
I could ramble on for ages but I don't need to,out of eleven people and cameras this one did the best job,so much so in fact that I put all of my photos onto an online photo album when I got home so that my friends could get the photos their cameras weren't capable of taking,much to their delight.
I love my camera.Love it,love it,love it!

Great camera.......2007-11-17

After trying out a Fuji and a Kodak and having to return them both for awful picture quality I finally struck lucky with this one.

This camera is easy to use and very compact whilst also having great zoom capabilities and extra features.
Picture quality is great and I am very happy with it. It takes lovely portrait shots. Another great feature is how quickly it takes the photos, there is very little delay as with some digital cameras.

The video quality is also excellent.

The main thing I was looking for in a camera was the quality of the images it produced for digital editing purposes and this camera certainly passes the test - especially in good light conditions.
