Took a while to get used to but great camera..........2007-11-19
Had been wanting a new high quality compact for a while and went for this one after trying out a friends T100. I really wasn't sure about the picture quality at first (Particularly landscapes) but after a while I have got used to it and I now think it is really great. Having a touch screen to navigate the options is so much easier than silly buttons and most of the options are actually useful, very good at evening and low light shots, very good for people and really excellent in good light. Another big plus is that it remembers what you last told it to do, rather than having to reprogramme it each time. Flash never great but I don't like flash photos anyway? Also it is really nice to look at and surprisingly doesn't feel flimsy.
Bad picture quality.......2007-11-11
Being a chap that trusts Sony products I was really looking forward to owning the DSC-T200 and assumed that Sony would have made a camera that produced fantastic photos as well as all the bells and whistles. Boy was I wrong! This is a great camera, apart from the fact that the picture quality is totally rubbish. My previous camera was a DSC-P200 (7.2MP) and this utterly trounces the T200 on picture quality. Sony have clearly upped the megapixels but thrown away all that extra data by compressing the image to two thirds the size of the images produced by the P200, what a waste! This produces dull, noisy images with a lot of compression artifacts to try and remove some of the noise. The manager in the Sony Center Croydon quite belligerently commented that in order to get the smile detection, touchscreen etc Sony has compromised on picture quality. Totally unacceptable! Don't by this if you value your photos.

The Sony DSC-T100 fits an amazing combination of high-tech features into super-slim dimensions. It has high-resolution 8.1 MP, a powerful 5X optical zoom lens and a huge 3.0-inch screen that lets you snap and share photos easily. Innovative technologies like Face Detection, in-camera retouching, D-range optimization and HD (high definition) output expand the possibilities of digital photography -- and the Sony Double Anti-Blur Solution lets you shoot in low light without flash to preserve the mood.

Beautiful camera but very noisy pictures.......2008-01-02
My daughter accidentally smashed our chunky Canon Powershot so I welcomed the opportunity to buy a smart, slimline replacement compact camera so I was thrilled with the T100 at first sight.....but despite no end of tweaking to the settings the images are noisy (and deafening in low light). It's been such an irritation (in comparison to my crystal clear Canon images) that today I ordered a Canon powershot G9 and will condemn the Sony to being stuffed into a pram side pocket for when I forget the Canon. I guess the sensor is too small for the high resolution.
Great Kit.......2007-12-11
This small, stylish camera has a solid aluminium build and handles really well. The massive screen is great to use and whie the live image quality might not seem so good under tungsten light, the final exposure is unbelievably clear.
The optical zoom lens being inbuilt gives added protection against damage that you don't get on other Cybershot's which petruding zooms.
While the shutter release could have been better designed it doesn't really detract from teh overall design quality and the only real downside is the lack of 'info-lithium' technology that previous models had - telling you in minutes how much battery life you had left. The battery life is quite good, but not the best, especially when the camera is left unused (switched off) for a few weeks, as it still suffers from quite severe drain. I'd always recommend having a backup battery ready anyway.
Sony & Carl Zeiss has always been a partnership that excites me and I'm glad that I chose this camera as the backup for my SLR.
The imaging software that it ships with is also really good and has now become my default organising/browsing software for my SLR too.
Bit of a battery problem here........2007-08-27
This is a smooth, sexy piece of equipment. I'm no photographer, just a 'snapper' - family, nice views, records of occasions, none of your stunning detailed beauteous artwork for me - but 'that's a nice one of Tom and Ben' type of approach. One scenic occasion was recently not engraved onto the card because I discovered later that the battery and the memory card were not pushed right home into their housing. Very silly of me, but how could that be possible from a design point of view? The other factor people might like to know about is its extreme battery hungriness. Like my previous Cybershot this job will only last for a short while, so I've had to buy an extra battery and even then the battery indicator starts to tell me the bad news when I've hardly started on a clicking session. This applies whether I remember to switch the bleeder off between each shot or not.
But I do really like its easy portability - it slips easily into a top pocket and there is none of the commotion displayed by other members of my family as they get out the case, get the item out of its case, undo, switch on, adjust, test the wind speed etc.etc. to take their masterpieces. I have had some great shots and am getting used to the menus and the logic tree - though I do think the system scores low on affordance. Sometimes it is not very clear to a thicko like me what to do to get to what you want in the innards. Obviously, because of the camera's stunning size its buttons are tiny, so crumblies will need glasses and sharpened finger ends to operate them. I'm also beginning to associate the various functions with the beeps linked to each, but like all electronic stuff there is a lot of learning to do before you feel in control. I do not regret this purchase. I am at the stage of trying to match up the shortcomings of the camera with those of its owner. Hope this helps.
