I bought this as aback up camera and have been using it for a few weeks. Its got a good specification for such a small camera with the maximum file size of 5 megapixels. You can take images from 1,3 or 5 megs and we have been using it at both 1 and 5 megs and had good results.

The camera is set up to use straight from the box in that every menu option is on auto. ie white balance is auto, iso (film speed) is auto. That works well but you can be a bit more creative by setting your own perimetres.

The main downside to the camera is the flash. It can take a while to charge up and in doing so you may just miss the image you wanted,

All in all however for the money it is a resonable buy.

Unlike the other reviewer I had no problems with the SD cards I used. The previous reviewer may have omitted to format the SD cards in the camera however as when we swapped a card over it the camera would not read it until we formatted the card in the camera. If in doubt (and in most people's cases a last resort) read the instruction manual.

beware-limited type of SD card.......2007-11-02

I have just reurned this camera to where I bought it from as it will not recognise any of the 3 SD cards I have (1 is a Toshiba,1 is a sandisk and the 3rd by Digi-cam)
these 3 cards have worked in two previous cameras, an mp3 player and my TOMTOM with no problems but when I received the camera this morning it will only take pics on its internal memory(capacity=18 shots!)
been on the HP website and spent 20 mins on the phone to their helpline with the conclusion that the camera is faulty so its going back.

However-I suspect that it maybe that this model only likes certain makes of card -but how are you supposed to know what will work and not.

so beware
