The CX-440 does the job for the money.......2006-01-11

Doing a lot of landscape photography, I already owned a Velbon CX mini tripod for carrying when walking. I was looking for a cheap (less than £30) full height tripod, that was reasonably lightweight and robust, for carrying on shorter walks or working from the car. The CX-440 does the job for the money.
It is a another good, solid product from Velbon, and features the same quick release platform fitting as the CX mini tripod. Meaning that with a single quick release plate fitted to the camera it is possible to alternate between tripods without needing to change the plate.
The tripod is a solid pice of kit (except the handle - see below) and pretty lightweight considering. The movement is smooth and the pan/tilt head is more than adequate. The only slight niggle with this tripod is the small handle for winding the pan-head stem up and down. The handle is a bit flimsy, and with rough outdoor usage may not last the distance, although you can still pull/push the pan head up and down even if it did snap off. If Velbon re-released it without the handle, or made it more robust, an upgrade to 5 stars would be in order.
