Superb!.......2006-06-30
I don't have a bad word to say, and I've owned digital cameras from Sony and Canon previously. The reviewer who found it slow probably didn't take the trouble to make sure they bought a 'Hi-Speed' SD card, because the access time on mine is far superior to any other digital I have tried. Battery life is excellent too.
Now that the 10 megapix version has hit the shops, you can pick up the EX-600 for a bargain. Get it while you can, is what I say.

After owning a Canon Powershot for a number of years and being very happy with everything about it apart from the size I decided that when it broke I just had to have one of the super small cameras currently on the market. Once I had chatted to a few knowledgeable sounding people in camera stores I decided to move away from the tried and true Canon brand and bought this camera. To be honest I wish I hadn't.
The camera definitely is super small, small enough to fit in your jeans pocket. And it most certainly is gorgeous, I got plenty of oooo's and ahhh's when I got it out of its case. The performance however was not as good as my Canon. I found the colour quality compared to Canon disappointing. It made people look washed out and in general colours were dull. The lag time experienced between taking one photo and being able to take the next was infuriating; I missed many a magic moment because of it. Likewise the lag time between turning it on and being able to take a photo. The most annoying thing about it was the fact that under some conditions the camera would just flatly refuse to take a photo even though it was on 'Bestshot' the supposed auto setting. I don't care if the light is bad or that the photo is going to be out of focus I just want a camera to take the best photo it can when I tell it to... that's the point isn't it?? I appreciated the vast array of settings the camera offered (there was even one for 'Pets'!) but the majority of photo opportunities just require a fast reaction and a good quality auto setting.
One last gripe from me... the display screen broke within 3 months and Casio are now saying that it was 'due to damage caused by the user' therefore it is not covered by guarantee and they are trying to charge me £85 to fix it... almost half what I paid for the whole camera in the first place! I've only used it half a dozen times and it's lived in its little padded case for the entirety of its short little life, it definitely wasn't the victim of ill treatment.
This is a very average camera that looks good, fits in your pocket but was an expensive accessory that doesn't live up to its specs.
