Easy to use.......2007-09-20

If you want an easy camera to use, this is one. It has 'Easy Shot' for those who want to let the camera do the thinking, or just chop and change between flash types, and light settings and just play.
The optical zoom is great and produces clear pictures. Theres a digital zoom on top of that, and although the screen's view is a little 'grainy', actual pictures always pleasantly suprise me.
I'm a florist, and through using it for a couple of months, the camera is great at close up detail on macro, aswell as Large Arrangements from a distance, and still be aable to pick out every flower. On the other hand i took it to the seaside, and equally got good results, even with the british weather.

I used this review for the silver version, but here it is again for the actual pink one I bought...
3 months ago I bought my 1st digicam (from Amazon) for £110 - the Casio EX-Z700GYDDB Gun Metal Digital Camera (7MP, 3 x Optical Zoom).
I saw this newer version, in pink, with free white leather case, in a retail chemist chain, so got one for my wife. She is really pleased with it - she wanted point-and-shoot, so you can put this on the EASY setting. Or maybe just set up the standard 'BEST SHOT' setting, which should be more versatile and just as easy.
But comparing the 2 cameras side-by-side, I get better results. (I also wanted a point-and-shoot, but with more gizmos and gadgets for when you have more time to, well, fiddle around.)
Main differences - old version recharges, downloads and uploads via a cradle, so no need to remove battery to recharge. Old version has small battery - but it's still twice as thick as newer one. I got about 300+ shots (plus lots and lots of fiddling, viewing and recropping every night) in Rome for 5 days before the battery was flat - it stays 'green' for ages, then quite suddenly goes from amber to red. On this newer model, my wife got 160 shots with no 'fiddling' and little viewing. (This may improve after more recharges/ duscharges.) The screen on the older model is a bit less grainy, better colour and contrast on the standard setting. The new version is wide-screen to view back (if you do wish to view back in wide-screen) but, when shooting, the screen has 2 vertical black bands at the 2 ends, or one vertical 'info bar' to the right in EASY mode, and I think the actual shots are NOT wide-screen - but not had it long enough to double-check this. Newer version is about 10mm wider. Old version seems thicker at first but, on comparison, this is just the way the body's been sculpted - they are similar, but the older version has a thicker base, so is much, much easier to rest on tables, benches etc. for low-light, long exposure shots. The new version has a narrower 'footprint' so finds it difficult to balance in an upright position.
The new camera (see Amazon pics) has zoom on the BACK. The older one has it on TOP - more useful, intuitive and less fiddly for people with fingers like traditional Cumberland sausages. (I have fingers like medium-size Wall's skinless.)
Comparing our Rome shots, the newer camera's outside shots are almost as good as the older version camera's shots, but not half as good on dark, interior shots - but this could be due to the EASY setting, and my wife not yet being used to her first digicam. There were a few occasions where the newer model had made a better 'decision' on whether to use flash or not.
Both cameras have an auto anti-shake setting, but I think (but don't quote me on it) that I've read somewhere that this means, with Casio, just a faster shutter speed - for 'real' anti-shake, look at Panasonics or other brands.
Having said all that, it's great for £100. My version is discontinued now, but I am guessing that the slightly more expensive, current 10 megapixel Casios may be more similar to the earlier 7mp models. Check the specs!
