The high end of the low end.......2008-01-12
i recently purchased the s5700, and i'm quite happy with it, it's a good deal for the price:
pros:
- takes good pictures in almost any lighting
- brilliant macro/super macro settings
- easy to operate
- has a lot of customizeable settings
- long battery life
- nice point and shoot camera
- easy to take care of
- even though it's made of plastic, in no way is it cheap plastic
- it fits in my hands really well. i have really small hands so i have no trouble holding it, and it's not too heavy. it balances itself well because of its design.
- nice, large LCD screen
cons:
- lens cap doesn't stay on very well
- changing the image to black and white in photoshop comes out grainy with a lot of noise
- the AF light is kind of annoying
because i'm not an expert photographer, but i want to take professional looking photos, i would reccomend the s5700. it's a really good deal for the price, if nothing else.
Love it.......2008-01-07
ok I say I love it and only give 4 stars, this might be my mistake rather than the camera's though. The reason is trying to take pics without the flash ( I had to do this during a competition, flash photography was not allowed)the pics were very blurry. However with flash on in sports mode it took great pics (before I was asked to stop!! oops). I'm pretty much a point and shoot person but to change the modes scenes etc not difficult. Getting great prints from this, though i haven't tried enlarging but don't see this as a problem. The video shooting was good as well though playback on larger tv's show lots of pixellation. Smaller tv's though no problem. I would recommend this camera to anyone.
Great Camera.......2008-01-05
This is a superb camera and excellent value for money, however do not buy from pixmania unless you can read the manual in French!
Fantastic!.......2008-01-04
Looking for a new camera, one of the must haves on my list was a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery, so I was dubious about this camera, and had visions of having to carry loads of AA batteries around with me. Well I need not have worried! I got the highest rechargeable batteries, 2700, and cannot believe that even though I have taken over 400 photos ( lots of practising!) the batteries are still going strong. My Nikon with lithium was never that good. I love this camera! its a nice size, I didn't want a tiny little camera, they seem so fragile , this is just right and sits nice in the hand. The image quality is amazing, macro is also excellent. The various pre-set settings are great, although I have yet to try taking photo's by taking on the responsibility of doing all the settings myself! and to be honest, with results like these, I may not bother. The display screen is huge, the manual is very comprehensive, and its a joy to use. Even taking photos without flash, newborn babies do not like that! , I have been very impressed. Hubby was more than a bit jealous, so I treated him to one for Christmas, and like me, he is thrilled with it. There are a couple of disappointments! Built in memory is only as big as an ants and depending on settings, you can only take approx 10 photos, so you must buy a memory card. I got the 1 gig card and can take over 500 on that, it wouldn't have cost Fuji much to provide that size card with the camera. Also, no case, its just these little missing thing that disappoint slightly! I would say to anyone pondering over buying this, buy it! you will not be disappointed!
Fuji magic.......2007-12-31
A friend had this camera and was raving about it. After purchasing one myself i can see why. Easy to use, great picture quality, superb battery life and it feels like a real camera. at just over a hundred quid this really is an amazing bargain. It even comes with a set of Energiser batteries.I had an HP Photosmart before this and it was awful. This is like upgrading to a Rolls Royce after driving an Austin 7.

Customer Reviews:
Camera fits fine.......2008-01-13
I have to admit when purchasing most items from Amazon i do read the customer reviews to see what everyone thinks about the product first. When i read the earlier reviews i thought long about whether or not to buy this for my S5700 and was swaying towards the long trip to town to try out some other cases. In the end i decided to just go for it and send it back if it did not fit.
Well I'm glad i did,the camera fits in the case with no problems or real effort at all (Including the strap for the camera as well), on top of this the little pouch on the front gives plenty of room for your extra batteries or memory cards etc.
please, please don't be swayed by the earlier reviews of this item. order it !!
Perfect fit for S5800.......2008-01-09
Having read other reviews on this case I was a little apprehensive about buying it, however my worries were unfounded. The camera fits perfectly including the camera strap, yes it is a snug fit and the camera fits only one way around, but surly you cannot get this wrong. The case is well made and offers a small pouch on the front of the case that is ideal for 4 batteries & memory cards, comes with a good shoulder strap as well.
Don't be put off by the other reviews as this case is a perfect fit for the S5700 & S5800.
Just go for it - it's fine!.......2008-01-05
Well I didn't have the fortune of reading the 4th and 5th review and decided to trundle into town (camera in hand) based on the advice of the first two muppets to try out the case. A three year old could work out how to put it in the case (without instructions) and it's fine - I bought the case from the shop and have previously thought very highly of Amazon and the dozens of things I have bought online but feel they really should vet these reviews as two of the three reviews from 2007 are misleading - they have lost you a sale.
IGNORE THE DOOM MONGERS
Fuji Case for S5700.......2008-01-05
I too considered the first reviews but based on the third one I decided to give it a try. I expected a struggle but I looked at the shape of the case and the camera for a few seconds beforehand and then I put the camera in first time perfectly - strap as well. Four spare batteries fit nicely in the pocket on the side and there is room for a cloth to clean the lense and a spare card if I fancy. I do think that the camera only fits in properly one particular way and any attempt to put it in a different way I would imagine could be very frustrating. I am however very pleased that I purchased it.
Fuji S5700 case.......2008-01-04
Was a bit worried reading the reviews on this camera case. Just got mine and it's perfect. Two of the reviews are rubbish. They must have the wrong case. Totally agree with the last review. Camera fits like a glove including the strap.

Customer Reviews:
versatile and good value.......2007-07-20
This S5700 slots into the middle ground between point and shoot and digital SLR. You can leave it in auto for point and shoot simplicity or use a whole range of other settings suited to portraits, landscapes, snow, beach, party, museum etc. Plus the usual priority A, S, and full Manual and macro settings. Image quality is good for up to A4 enlargements. In a very compact camera you get the equivalent of 38 - 380 lens, (plus digital magnification X 4, which does degrade the image somewhat). Cables are included for playback through TV and usb connection to PC (I haven't used the latter or the supplied software as I prefer to use my PC's card reader for faster transfer of images).
What I like:
- The price - about a third of what you pay for a digital SLR
- The image quality - the 7 meg is as good as film on standard size prints
- The battery life is good (you can use rechargeable AAs - get at least 2700 NiMH, - easy to carry spares or buy standard AA in an emergency)
- It takes SD as well as Xd cards. Even at high resolution you can get a 1000 frames on a 2 gig card
- The extended control - I can finally get depth of field on a digital without paying D SLR price !
- The large bright LCD screen - excellent
- It takes movies (can't do that on my film SLR!) up to 36 mins on a 2GB card
- Good low light sensitivity - I've got some good looking pictures indoors without flash
- Nice rubbery grip
- When you turn off all the beeps / shutter sounds it is virtually silent in operation
- It will take 46mm filters - suggest you stick a UV one on to protect the lens and improve the image in bright sunlight
What I don't like
X Doesn't include camera case or memory card (has only 27 meg internal memory)
X Still get some noticeable lag between pushing the shoot button and taking the picture but it's better than any digital I've previously used
X The manual focus is fiddly - and not easy to tell when its there
X It's a bit too compact- I actually prefer a bit more camera to grip
X The view finder is poor and not as accurate as the large screen - you would only ever use it in very bright sunlight
X Image stabilisation isn't that great - basically just increases the ISO - so faster but more grainy
So overall I think this is a winning package, it will appeal to old SLR users like me who want the advantages of reasonably priced digital, without having to compromise all creative control. As a multipurpose camera with a x10 optical lens in a very compact package, this is a cost effective solution. Spend a bit more on getting a 1 or 2 gig san disk ultra SD card (other brands may be ok but san disk will definitely work and work fast - this is important if you want to take movies), and you will have a versatile, responsive and rewarding package. After sales 46mm wide angle and x2 and x3 lens are available from the 'bay if you want to extend on what is already a pretty versatile lens range.
At this price you might consider getting the newer S5800 - you get an extra meg on the image and a charger and set of batteries thrown in. Looks cool in silver as well. My suggestion would be to buy the S5700 direct from amazon - at around 110 gbp's it's an absolute bargain. Go on -you know you want one!

Customer Reviews:
A++ Digital Camera.......2007-09-25
I brought this last week, it arrived quickly and very well packaged, which is good, because of the cost of it.
This camera is a big step up from my current one, a Samsung Digimax S500, this is a lot more complex but worth it because I am growing in my photographic skills, but the camera was restraining me, both in terms of zoom and macro shots.
Firstly the zoom on this is immense 51x maximum including the digital zoom (which you can turn on and off), even photos taken at this level are pretty good quality. The optical is 10x and very high quality pictures are produced. The macro/super macro are very good and the detail and quality of shots are awe-inspiring.
The LCD panel is a big point, it is very clear and runs at either 60 or 30 fps, at the higher setting it is amazing to watch, it's very fluid, but dark shots seem to slow it down (due to the processing going on, I presume) but it doesn't matter because the quality is still top notch, there also is noise on the image in dark shots, but this doesn't actually happen on the photos taken.
The EVF (electronic view finder) is a joy to use for shots where you need to use it (not really for bright sun because the LCD is fine there too) but personal preference normally sways decision between either.
I don't use the supplied software, because I have no real need to, and I have a SD card reader, so I don't waste battery power transferring the 4mb shots from it to my PC. So I can't comment on that.
The software on the camera is amazing, and has comments for when you use it, for example when using the playback to view taken pictures, I pressed it again, thinking it is a toggle button and would go back to photo mode, but it came up saying 'press shutter button to go back to photo taking mode'. It comes up with details about each mode, which is useful when using it for the very first time. It has many, many settings to it, to suit the 'point-and-shoot' users all the way up to pro/semi-pro levels.
It comes supplied with a very thick, very comprehensive, manual which shows you how to take pictures, and what the settings, like aperture, actually do, with example photos.
The only real niggles I can find are that, when putting the batteries in for the first time, it was a pain to close the battery door, but you get used to that, and the slowdown and noise when taking night/dark shots on the LCD, which doesn't really faze me.
It's a very high quality camera, from a fine make and purchased from a top distributer. This camera is perfect for a wide range of users and so highly configurable and powerful that it will take some time to get used to all of its features, especially in full manual mode.
