Good for the price.......2007-07-16

In respect of build quality, (overall) ease of use and features it's what you would expect of Olympus-almost faultless. The 18x zoom is particularly impressive and makes it stand out from similar cameras.
The image quality - which is what it's all about - is good but not outstanding for a 7.1mp machine being a bit on the soft side but a little tweaking in an image editor will improve this. Shutter lag is acceptable and the image stabaliser works well. The camera is well balanced and can take a knock (as I found out when I dropped it!).
Not everything is perfect though.
Despite the image stabaliser, getting a shake free image at 18x depends on a very steady hand and the screen 'streaks' in some lighting conditions but, as reported by other sources, this does not affect the pictures. Also, even in 'sports' mode, the AF lock could do to be much quicker.
As with all similar cameras it can be quite a learning curve to get the most out of it due the amount of features in such a small box but overall it is worth the money given that similar spec cameras are more expensive.
Had the veiwfinder streaking been fixed before shipping, the images a bit crisper and the AF lock a bit faster it would get 5 stars but these rough edges, albeit minor (and probably to be fixed in the next version) push it down to 4

uncomplicated.......2007-01-09

Hi ive recently wasted my time buying a top end mp3 players! It was advertised as having AM radio which it didn't,also it was a nightmare to d/l music to..
The number one thing i wanted was mp3 player with DAB or AM..But DAB is going through some massive changes,DAB is changing to AAC+ which will become the standard,and various company seem nervous to jump in while theres a BETA vs VHS situation (one top end DAB model as been canceled by iaudio this month)..So ive decided to sit it out with this model..The great thing about this model is the base unit is super cheap,but the sd card which contains the music are versatile and will play on any future models(if there flash memory).. So just think you can have all ur music on a less then inch square card and the cards are pretty much future & bullet proof!!..SR

Cheap and cheerful, but it's picky about batteries.......2006-12-18

I wasn't expecting much from an MP3 player this cheap, so I was pleasantly surprised. Let me begin with the advantages of this device and finish with the drawbacks.

The fact that modern technology lets us play 320KBPS MP3 on a device this inexpensive amazes me. It's no iPod--you won't have a fancy screen, a "current track" readout or even a random shuffle feature--but at this sort of price you don't expect those features. In a fantastic move by Sumvision these players have no built-in memory but instead take SD cards, which these days are amazingly cheap for their capacity (at the time of writing, a 1GB card for £[...]). Unlike a lot of low-price players, the capacity of this device can be expanded further and further as SD cards become cheaper and cheaper.

Playback is solid, and your batteries run out at work you'll find that the device can be powered by USB too. No software is required - the device doubles as an SD card reader for your PC, so Windows 2000, XP and Vista will automatically detect when you connect it to USB and you just copy files to and from it as if it was a disk or USB pendrive.

Drawbacks: It feels quite cheap, made of that cheap plastic that you can smell. The battery socket cover feels quite fragile, and since it connects to USB anyway I would have preferred a USB-charged internal battery (but then, I suppose you get what you pay for). Finally, it gives a "low battery" indicator even if I use new Duracell alkaline batteries - perhaps it demands high-power batteries. I found that when I ran it off normal batteries, the device had trouble playing VBR-encoded music. This isn't a problem if you're technically adept enough to reencode your stuff to CBR or can find batteries that this thing likes; otherwise you might want to spend a little more than on this device.

Samsung SyncMaster SM2032BW.......2007-12-28

My trusty Samsung SyncMaster 172T 17" was beginning to look a bit small...

Having owned the Samsung brand before, I had every confidence in buying another one.

The SM2032BW did not let me down. It is a strikingly good looking piece of hardware for starters, but the sleek, black, glossy finish is only part of the story.

This monitor is astonishingly crisp and clear. Game playing is fast due to the 2ms response time but my primary use is for DTP. I can get two A4 pages side by side quite comfortably.

I use the DVI connection on my Mac and the VGA on my PC. With a one-button press I can switch from one machine to the other, instantly. No need for two monitors on the desk!

I have had several monitors over the years, CRT and Flat Panel and this one rates, in my opinion, very highly.

If you are looking for a good all-round 20" flat panel at a good price - look no further. Recommended!
