Versatile and compact - after 2 years!.......2007-12-02
I've had this camera for a couple of years now - I also own a digital SLR and a Canon digital compact. This camera is a wonder. It has been all over the world with me and I love it. Compact enough to slip into a pocket, yet with the flexibility of a long zoom SLR, this camera consistently produces excellent results. I don't use the lens hood as it adds bulk. I use a 2GB card, which gives about 700 pictures at highest JPEG settings. With a couple of 1Gb cards in reserve this is plenty for a tour of Australia. Downsides? No focussing ring - but choice of AF modes so hasn't been a problem. Rapid shooting - frames freeze whilst processing so poor in this aspect. Newer models offer better resolution, but larger file sizes. Superb Leica lens. Battery life is excellent - though a spare is carried I've never yet had to call upon it. You won't regret buying this camera - it really is superb - even though I generally prefer to buy from the traditional camera makers.

This is a fine, fine piece of technology. But everything written above, though true, is written in such a deflatingly obvious PR-warped version of English I find it hard to stay sane.
If the above reviews aren't written by PR lackeys then there is no hope for us.
Still, awesome camera.
Panasonic DMC-FZ5 First Impressions.......2006-02-20
I bought this camera as I read that it was good, and on first impressions it certainly is. (only had it a couple of days) It is lightweight and fits nicely into the hand, the modes are easily accessible with the dial on the top and for those of use who just want to press and go this is great. Picture quality is great too.

Have been looking to upgrade from old Cybershot, and was originally looling at the Sony DSC-H1. Read loads of reviews on both cameras and it was a very close thing - but the Panasonic FZ5 just has the edge in every way. Its still relatively compact, has a great German lens, and produces pictures that are just so warm, colourful and vivid. Its easy to use and can be as manual or automatic as you want! All the functions you need are at hand and the image stabilisation is amazing. As its now due to be replaced, some people may wait for the FZ7, but the only difference is, apparently, a manual focus setting on the newwer model. So snap up the FZ5 whilst prices are low and stocks last!

Had been agonising about moving up from an older compact digital camera to a digital SLR, particularly Canon EOS 350d. Then I saw this little gem, which I knew would do everything I needed in a remarkably compact body.
Picture quality is superb, probably due to the high quality Leica lens and undoubtedly helped by a remarkably unobtrusive but effective image stabilisation system that virtually eliminates camera shake.
Used on all sorts of pictures, from family shots to landscapes and even night time pictures and so far everything has come up clear, sharp and true.
Cannot fault the camera in any respect so far - and so much more usable than an SLR!

Mixed feelings!.......2006-11-17
I bought this scanner when I found that my new PC did not support my old faithful SCSI UMAX. The Visioneer is significantly smaller and lighter than the UMAX and yields comparable results, but I found it difficult to install and slow in operation. The accompanying software is less than intuitive to use. But my main gripe is that the PC often refuses to recognise its existence. Usually I can overcome this by switching it off and then on again, but as it has no power switch and is permanently ON I can only do this by pulling out the power lead and plugging it in again - not the best of solutions! Sometimes even this fails to work, and I can only get it restarted by rebooting my PC, sometimes more than once. There must be a better solution...

I bought this due to my growing interest in photography. I noticed that it came bundled with negative and slide adapters enabling you to put your best shots onto your computer.
Having just got hold of Photoshop I was keen to muck around with my own scanned photos.
This scanner DOES NOT disappoint! An absolute gem, with bundled software that enables complex scanner settings to become easy to understand and change.
The quality of scans at 4800 dpi is really good, so good that i'm confident enough to send the images to magazines.
Also bundled is Photoshop Elements which is the stripped down version of photoshop 7.
Installation is really quick and easy and through USB 2 (or USB1) this scanner is quick and provides smooth results. A SNIP!

From reading the previous review - I thought 'this may be a little hassle setting up but sounds like value for money' so would be worth it. Having sat in the box for the last 2 weeks until I had time to set it up, I finally found the time and patient mood to do so today! I have to say - it couldn't have been easier. Complete Plug & Play - using the quick guide set up and the disk during the loading process tells you exactly when to connect up the scanner and it took me all of about 15 minutes at most. Have put it to the test today, with handwritten documents, photos and 35mm negatives - and am very impressed, very simple, and like anything - the more you use it, you become familiar with it and more expert. Top marks!
A bugger to setup but its pretty good value.......2003-09-10
It took me a week trying to figure out how to install this beast. I've had a canon and a HP before and no problem installing but this beast is frightening at first. If you have any VIA chips on your motherboard dont buy this it wont work. The only other thing you can do is buy a USB2 card and plug it in there. You could buy another motherboard but thats just not worth it. Also if you are having problems trying to get paperport to work you do have to install it in the root directory of C and not the windows default (programs) folder, as I found out the hard way. The OCR is pretty decent 99% accurate but it wont recognise pre printed sheets. The Email button dosent seem to recognise my email program only Outlook Express, The copy button does work a treat though, very time saving. The main scan button works pretty good too and even crops the picture for you. The output quality is amazing and its a terrific fast scanner as long as you use USB2. The negative copier works pretty good too. All in all the scanner is not perfect but sheer value for money and if your new to scanning or computers do read the manual very carefully before installing and revise it too.
Visioneer 9020 scanner.......2003-07-19
I have aleady have this scanner, and I have found it perfect for Business use plus home use. Its Ideal because it is not bulky,its nice and slim and uses little space. Most of all it gives very good results for the small Business user. I have always found all Cannon products to be very reliable. So mush so I am about to purchase a second scanner for home use. If you are considoring a new scanner you wont be left behind by purchasing a Visioneer 9020 Scanner. For the price I would rate it 10 0n a scale of 1 to 10
