Amazing Camera.......2007-12-18
** Amazing Camera *** ...... I own this camera, yes the batteries it came with do run dead quick but I think they are just supplied for you to see the camera works rather than to use with the camera long term, but trust me .... just buy 2000maH or better still NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) 2500mAh AA rechargeable batteries (the higher the maH on a battery the more power they hold) - which saves you money anyway as you just recharge them and don't have to keep buying batteries and you can get them cheap couple of quid, there are a lot of deals around for a battery charger and batteries for under £10 - I bought the energizer charger which charges fully in 15min. and its well worth it and you can then take hundreds literally of photos with the batteries. Which is also why I invested in a sandisk 4GB SD memory card so I can snap happy!! It is only because the camera is that good it needs so much power. I cannot fault this camera at all, it gets so many comments from people and the photo quality is that good you can blow the photos up really big without any problems with quality. The metal case gives it an expensive look.
Samsung S1050 - You decide?.......2007-11-19
Lovely camera - except it eats batteries. Lovely big screen to view your picures and fairly easy to use. After reading the reviews on this site I did purchase the re-chargeable batteries recommended - slightly better use but it still only takes 15 / 20 pictures before failing! However, I have contacted Samsung as it may be an issue with this particular one! I'll keep you posted !
Batteries!.......2007-11-19
The batteries supplied last barely a few minutes. Make sure you have some decent ones ready - otherwise you will have a brilliant camera, but be unable to play with it! Why did they supply the sub-standard ones?
Quality of photos is impressive.
I had a problem downloading the manual, so spent a couple of days playing with it and it was so easy to use.
The manual is needed for the sophisticated stuff, but I soon resolved that.
By varying the pixels you can happily take snapshots or magazine quality shots when you choose.

Brilliant camera, superb picture quality & great value for money.......2007-06-30
As with the previous reviews, it is a great camera.. Ive owned mine for over a week now & its superb, picture quality on its superfine setting matches more expensive cameras on the market easily.
As for the bettery life, the lowest coment condems the camera due to battery life, but I didnt even bother with the batterys that came with the camera: Duracell ultra's in the box (kinda says to me the camera is power hungry)
I have always used Energizer ultimate lithium AA's (Yeah, the expensive ones) in my digital cameras & this camera loves them!, I have taken over 100 pictures (many with the flash) & the batterys are still reading full!!.
If using the camera on its superfine mode, I would have to recomend at least a 2gb SD memory card.. I personally use the sandisk ultra II 4gb SDHC & have found it works great, on superfine mode you can save approx 770 pictures, on fine you can save 1494, and on standard you can save 1723.
All in all I can highly recomend this camera as it has loads of potential with all its advanced settings as well as having a great, simple point & click auto mode.. but even more so as its a great camera for the money, if you can live with either having to use the Energizer ultimate lithium AA's or good quality MiMH rechargables & having to possibly purchase a large memory card.

I recently bought a near cousin of this as a happy snapper camera (the S850) while in Germany. The only difference is the number of pixels which is 8MP rather than 10MP. They appear to be otherwise identical.
There are normal batteries in the box but the manual says that you can and should use NiMH rechargables, which I did and a pair last for hundreds of shots. Nowadays sets of AA NiMH batteries with capacities above 2000 mAh can be found really cheaply - my local Aldi in England had them for £2.50 for 4, and Saturn in Germany usually have sets of 4 for 2.99 Euros.
The picture quality on my mere 8 MP model is stunning - as good as my Sony 828 and Fuji S3 Pro with Nikon lenses - but the camera is much smaller lighter, cheaper and fits in a pocket. Better than I need for happy snaps. I wish I'd seen this 10 MP model 3 weeks sooner.
The big screen on the back is great for reviewing the results, but not a lot of help when composing a picture in bright sunlight, so 1 star off the rating.
