this camera is amazing for the price

its got fantastic features!

20X optical zoom
night shot- great for recording in total darkness
lcd- a nice size and clear lcd
dv in and dv out- pc editing
990x digital zoom- never used
light- graet to briten up certain places while filming

the sound quality is second to none

i have played the picture back on my pc and i am very plased with picture quality!

it has slow play, plus long play!

i get a lot of bother from the neighbour, so im going to stick this in the window and run the power through the ac power supply as the battery only last 120 mins max

as it is digital, it has more the 500 lines- this is very good more than most cctv!

and with long play i can tape for an an hour and a half, then just rewind it if nothing has happened and record over it again

as being digital the picture quality wont deterate! like vcr and analogue camcorder picture does when re-recording

so for only £219 it much better than paying £180 for a analouge camcorder, digital is far better!

the software supplied is ok, but with windows mivie maker, and most computers having nero video software or other video editing software, this is no problem

also you can save all you recordings to a computer, insted of keeping them on a tape, saves buying more tapes, but will use memory on your hard drive

it looks good, a nice silver finish

i would recommend using digital 8 tapes, instead of 8mm or hi8, as there better quality, plus last longer, if you do use 8mm or hi8 and the tape is for 90 mins it will only last an hour!

i recently bought this camera for the amazon price from another internet supplier, it being my first digital camera i was sceptical to whether i had a good deal, but without a doubt this camera is 5 stars. i was happy to see it worked well and was easy to use given a quick read of the manual, i was also amazed at some of the features including a bright light and even night vision. only have it for a few days i have thoroughly enjoyed using it and will do for ages to come.

TRV265E doesn't play analogue.......2004-10-02

I only give this 4 stars instead of 5 due to the ambiguous product information prior to buying. I have a lot of old analogue tapes and have been transfering them to digital via an old Matrox card. I wanted a digital camera and thought digital 8 would be a good evolutionary route as I could play my old tapes on one and transfer direct to the PC via firewire. I did a google search and found several site recommending the TRV265E and claiming that it could play old analogue tapes (note the Amazon site does not make this claim). I went to the Sony site and there was no information on the TRV265E only the TRV265. I bought from Amazon as it was the cheapest and I am an existing customer. The camera is great and I recommend it BUT it cannot play back analogue tapes only the TRV460E @ £350 can. I must continue to convert my analogue tapes with a capture card. The TRV265E CAN record digitally onto old analogue tapes, so I won't be short of media. The next time I buy something I will check with the manufaturer before buying or go to a store and get a demonstration. We live and learn.

I have recently purchased this camcorder through amazon, and am happy to say the process was a joy. The camcorder has arrived 2 days earlier than predicted and it is a great camcorder. We recently upgraded to digital from analouge and after reasearching the subject decided that this camcorder was an ideal comprimise between features and price. This camcorder has many top notch features for the price including night shot plus which is fantastic, you can film in virtually total darkness. I am more than happy at the quality of the filming and feel i have made a great purchase. Hope you enjoy it as much as we have.

I have bought things from Amazon before, and have always been pleased with the low prices. However, I was unaware that Amazon sold this camera. I bought it at Argos a few days ago for £300. I come on Amazon.co.uk today to see it £80 cheaper! It sometimes confuses me how Amazon make any money with prices as low as these!
The camcorder itself is excellent. The picture and sound quality is second to none, and the zoom is crystal clear. Even if you don't need to buy a digital camcorder, at £220 its silly not to!
