I wish I had gone to the high street........2005-01-26
My camcorder developed a fault after only four months, and I was told by amazon to contact sony. I sent the camcorder off to sony and four weeks later I received the camcorder back. It came back with the same fault, and now I am facing another month with out a camcorder. I did save on the high street price when I bought the camcorder, but now I wish I had gone to the high street.

Great unit, the video recording quality is great. Many additional features that you may never use but for the price the units features are great.
The downside is the software in that Click to DVD is not included on the supplied disc and this feature will not work on USB streaming, you have to buy the additional i.LINK cable.

I've browsed and browsed, reading endless reviews and I have to say I think it paid off. What a brilliant piece of typically Sony engineering. I did actually read the manual first for once, but it is so intuitive and easy to use this DCR that my wife was able to pick it up and shoot her first frames with minimal help.
The software on CD may be rudimentary, but then these days there are so many image management/editing packages out there why should they put anything more complicated in the box.
The digital zoom at 120x may be less than larger or more expensive machines, but you really don't need more. The quality of the picture is superb, and the touch-lcd screen works very well.
The battery life of the (supplied) battery is surprisingly good and the display on the lcd showing remaining battery life is a big plus.
Have a good look at the build quality on the high street before you buy on-line. Some big brand names have a very poor finish but Sony isn't one of them on this model.
Overall, a delightful piece of kit for my first DCR and well worth the money.

This is an excellent mini DV camcorder which is very small and compared to others I have seen it is far more compact with everything within a small rectangular box, rather than a lens and viewfinder that sticks out which also looks so ugly. I bought this a few weeks ago and so far am very happy with it, for a start it was over £150 cheaper on Amazon than high street shops so try there and buy online is my advice. The build quality is very high being a Sony and the battery life is better than I expected from such a compact battery unit. So an expensive upgrade is only needed if you intend to use it for ages before your going to see a socket! It has many useful features including remaining battery life in minutes displayed, a built in flip down lens cover and a touch screen, which is very easy to use. The provided software is OK and has an interesting "automatic movie maker" whereby it will put music and effects to a section of your recording via USB. The only things that let it down are the fact it does not have a colour viewfinder (which some cheaper alternatives do) and the zoom is not huge. Also the night filming function is not that amazing as it must work on IR and as the emitter is not huge on the camera you cannot see that far, however cannot imagine much use for it anyway just a novel feature for the everyday user. If your looking for a camcorder that looks good and will fit in your pocket then this is a great buy.
