This musical instrument fits somewhere between a professional synthesizer, and a preset keyboard, meaning that you have the features of a synthesizer, with the ease of use of a keyboard.
POSITIVE POINTS...
It features five octaves of (full size) keys.
Good selection of high quality and useable sounds, many borrowed directly from the higher spec MOTIF range of synths. Particularly good are the piano, strings, brass, guitar (electric and acoustic), and analogue synth leads.
Good range of inbuilt patters, which include rhythm, bass, and accompaniment. Including - Hip Hop, R&B, Dance, World, Rock and Pop.
Simple to adjust and adapt the inbuilt sounds to your own requirements simply by tweaking the four (real time) controller knobs: cut-off, resonance, attack and release. There are other parameters available to adjust through the menu system.
8 Track sequencer (plus one pattern track), which allows you to layer up to 8 tracks on top of each other, to create your own musical compositions.
Songs can be saved to a standard USB memory device, such as a memory stick. Allowing you to store up to 400 songs per device.
Ability to convert user song data to load and save in standard MIDI format.
Can be connected to a PC or Mac with a standard USB cable.
NEGATIVE POINTS...
No loop or quantize functions on inbuilt sequencer.
The supplied PC and Mac Cubase LE software (which gives you a 16 track MIDI sequencer) when connected to a computer, has no supplied documentation relating to this specific instrument, meaning it can be a steep learning curve for people who are not familiar with music studio software. I found it more complicated than I expected even to get a preset rhythm to record and then playback.
Limited amount of inbuilt song memory (Five songs max). Meaning you often have to load/save songs to external memory device.
Conclusion...
This is a great sounding synthesizer, which is competitively priced and will appeal to a wide range of people. It's suitable for home use or even for playing professionally in a band. It's lightweight and very portable. It does not have inbuilt speakers, so it needs to be connected to external amplification - such as an Amplifier or Hi-Fi system - or you can listen via the headphone socket.
I've found it's possible to get some good results, with a bit of time and patience. The only limits are really your own creative and musical abilities.
