THIS UNIT IS A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY, AFTER ABOUT A WEEK THE UNIT STOPPED WORKING,IT HAS BEEN SENT BACK TO AMAZON FOR A REFUND..
Not Fit for Purpose.......2007-10-22
I've spent most of my working life in audio, video and computing, so I'm not exactly a novice when it comes to technology.
This device appeared to be ideal for my purpose - streaming video from my PC and also playing files locally via a USB port.
It failed on both counts. Files that play perfectly well on other devices suddenly freeze and the Link Theatre itself has a habit of locking up about 30 minutes into a video. The only answer then is to switch it off and back on again.
It seems to me that there are far too many products of this type on the market that have not been tested under real life conditions before bing released.
The user interface isn't great either but at least the networking was a doddle to set up.
Product being returned to Amazon forthwith!
As an update, written two weeks after the above, I now have a Freecom 350 WLAN media player and this does everything that the Buffalo is supposed to do and fails. But beware the documentation provided by Freecom is dire.
